This is my 2nd Asus touch screen laptop. The quality to me is always great for the price. What I love about this laptop is the 2 in 1 feature which my 2year uses a lot for his learning activites. He can pound on the screen just like my tablet without damaging the screen or pc.
I did notice a couple odd things: 1. There was no easily accessible battery which may need replacing after 3-4 years. 2. The cooling vents are on the back where hinge is located. These are not deal breakers just odd. 3. I did have to restart it at times with certan programs but it seems to be windows the issue not Asus or its programs.
The laptop very powerful and as a gamer it runs all current gen games I have noticed as well with on par that you would see with my PS4. The exception to get most of tbe graphic features to work with decent frame rate you may need to reduce the resolution just slightly but still looks greats and runs well. So far done that with both Dying Light and Shadow Mordor with again decent results. During gamin havent notice any heating concerns either. The nvid 940 is ok not the best but definitely gets the job done.
it is very duable and has that Asus metal feel I like. For the price and features the best value you can get thats out there with i7 6 gen processor.the only thing I wish was available a protection case to go over the key board while in tablet mode.

She loves this laptop. She had great storage, its fast and she has a CD player. She has plenty of room to grow with this laptop. She loves the fact that she can stand it up like a tent and watch movies, or connect it to anything with an HDMI port

First understand that this has a Skylake 6th generation i7 (most laptops I researched had 4th gen). That is the main reason I bought this at Best Buy. It was the only store carrying it. Not loving Windows 10 but that has little to do with ASUS. I play Guild Wars 2 and the game runs GREAT on this laptop.
DISPLAY
The screen is sharp and bright with the excellent colors and viewing angles you can expect from an IPS display. You can NOT, however, set the Nvidia graphics display adapter as your only GPU. You must use the integrated HD 520 graphics display adapter. You can assign the Nvidia to be default for specific applications though. I installed the GeForce Experience software to keep things up to date a running well. All is good in the graphics and video department. The display is glossy but I think it needs to be for the touch to work (never seen a matte finish on a smartphone or tablet).
BUILD
The laptop itself is solid. It's even heavy which to me is a good thing as it telecasts the sturdy build quality of the machine. I would not recommend this for true mobile/commuting computing. I move mine around the house but don't really carry it with me. The three USB 3.0 ports are great. Transferred over 20GB to a WD MyPassport external drive in just a few minutes. I even don't mind the touchpad and I hate touch pads. Unlike my 2011 HP ProBook, I don't find myself constantly brushing the touchpad by mistake and inadvertently relocating where the pointer is while typing. Speaking of typing, the keyboard is nice, not amazing, but nice. But then no laptop keyboard will ever compete with a nice mechanical keyboard IMO. The rear lit feature is a key and was one of the requirements my new laptop needed to have.
SOUND
This laptop's sound chip is made by Bang & Olufsen. The machine also comes with this strange cylindrical external speaker that plugs into its own port. You definitely want to sue that speaker for external sound as it creates a much warmer and fuller sound to any audio. I use a wired set of Sony headphones as well and everything sounds excellent.
SOFTWARE
I'll leave the Windows 10 review to the Internet.
Best Buy has been great. This machine went on sale two days AFTER my return period expired and they still adjusted the price for me. That saved me $150.00 which should go nicely towards some peripherals. But even at the full $1,000 retail price, I doubt I'd have buyers remorse on this buy. Definitely gets a recommend from me.

The i7 processor and 12gb RAM make this computer run with plenty of efficiency and speed. Not quite a gaming laptop, but it can handle some basic games. Just be sure to check the system requirements for games. I bought this for work, and after one week, I cannot imagine working without this PC. Another plus is that it's one of the fastest laptops with a built in CD/DVD drive. The touch screen and tablet mode function seamlessly. One con I would mention is the sound. I did not buy for sound quality but for the speed and functionality. That said, the sound is really bad. When I was shopping for a PC, the Best Buy rep told me this laptop came with a little subwoofer but he wasn't sure why. I soon found out. Without the subwoofer, you can barely hear the audio. With the subwoofer, you get echoing, tinny sound, but it's at least loud enough to hear. I had not trouble hooking this to tv, soundbar, bluetooth earbuds, etc., which solves the sound problem. All in all, I am happy with my purchase and recommend this laptop especially for basic to mid-range functions for work and entertainment.

This is my second ASUS laptop. My previous one was a bit of a behemoth desktop replacement, but brilliantly worked for 4.5 years and is still kicking! It just got a bit outdated and I needed anew laptop. The reliability, build quality and features are why I stick with ASUS exclusively.
I had an issue with the first that I purchased in that there was a speaker rattle, but I replaced it with another one that works just fine. I'd recommend doing a good test of all functions before doing too much installation, as these minor flaws can occur in all laptops.
The computer is fairly speedy, but I think an essential upgrade is putting in a solid state drive. I opted for the EVO 850 1 TB SSD. Though it's another steep investment ($150 - $350 depending on drive space) after dropping nearly $1000 on a notebook (bit more than I would have liked), it's essential. Boot time is less than 5 seconds and it went from being a good computer to a GREAT computer. This also improves battery life by at least 25%, even more depending on what you're doing.
A couple Pros and Cons:
Pros:
Touch screen function superb, though ungainly at first. Takes some experimenting to optimize properly
-Screen quality superb
-Charger small and compact, compared to previous bricks with other ASUS
-Full folding capabilities awesome, a definite advantage over apple.
-Included sub woofer makes for quite a decent sound on. However, if you want good quality sound you need speakers and a USB sound card.
- Keyboard excellent, keyboard lighting excellent.
-has internal DVD drive. Many of the comparable Lenovo notebooks don't have this and require an external drive. While the cloud computing era requires disc drives less and less, it's a convenient feature.
-Hardware on this laptop is top notch, dual core i7 6th gen which improves battery life and performance
Cons:
-Screen seemed dim at first, but just disable the auto brightness feature under display settings, or pressing fn + A.
-Can be slow at bootup, which can be easily remedied with a solid state drive.
-somewhat heavy, but not bad considering
-opening the bottom of the notebook a bit challenging, requiring a specific screwdriver and pulling on each side.
Overall a great purchase and one of the top laptop choices out there

After first buying a Dell comparable computer that had major issues with wireless and a second one also did the same I decided to return to Best Buy and to go with ASUS. Glad I did as it is trouble free and has several things to recommend it. The screen is really good...as accurate as my big calibrated monitor I use for Photo Shop CC professional use. Has 12 GB memory so fast and Nvidia video with dedicated color memory. Also has a R/W CD burner, 3 USB ports, wired port for wireless and HDMI. I was surprised when I got it home and opened the box. It comes with a plug in small sub woofer/remote speaker that is much louder than the built in speakers so very useful. I like the back lit keyboard (am an astrophotographer so work in the dark). Has a couple of other nice touches like an all aluminum case...not plastic. Not a big negative but the SD card reader has the SD card sticking out a bit rather than contained into the case so you shouldn't leave the SD card in there all the time. This might be a good idea though...keeps you from leaving the SD card in there which could be a security issue for some. I like the 2 in 1 option....as laptop or tablet. It isn't overloaded with bloat ware either. My family has had and.or currently own many brands...HP, Toshiba,, Lenovo, another ASUS cheaper laptop and two ASUS Android tablets (really nice). The other ASUS laptop and this new one have been very impressive price/specs. I decided to go with another HHD version as the solid state ones are still too expensive for the larger sizes. That being said this one boots up very quickly and no issues with any programs I previously ran from Win 7 machines. I only had one gripe...not ASUS fault...Windows no longer supports Ad Hoc wireless since Win 8. I used that feature to control some telescopes but have an alternative now but wish they didn't remove it. I understand many IT guys are upset so maybe they will relent.

Great Laptop with a few minor issues

The specs are impressive for the price I paid (it was on sale). I previously had the Asus Q500 which I loved, then bought the Asus Q552. I had to return that due to a hardware issue. It so happened the Q553 came out the day I returned it.
Since this has gotten some great reviews, I will only highlight a few things I found or reiterate what was already mentioned.
The positive:
For being thinner and lighter than the Q500, this feels solid. When closed, it is easy to carry in my hand. The 2 TB drive is nice, just wish it was faster. I would have paid more for a good size SSD.
The screen is bright and colors pop. The one downside, I’m a photographer and notice a reflection when processing darker photo’s in a well-lit room. It makes it a little harder to process with this distraction. This may be a problem if you do this sort of stuff and take the laptop on the road with you. 90% of the time I process in a darker room so it is not a huge deal.
I love the backlit keyboard. I will never buy a laptop without one. I can understand the comments of light bleed if you sit at a certain angle. This is not an issue for me.
I connected this to my 50” TV via HDMI. I was impressed with the resolution and clarity. Checked out several of my photos and found them to be crisp. My previous laptop, not so good.
I have not used it yet but, the Type C USB 3.0 port is a plus.
I’ve had this laptop for about 25 days now and use it extensively. I have not experienced any of the lag or sputter issues mentioned in other reviews as of today. I did update drivers off the Asus web site. The one side note to this, I did notice that the machine would act a little strange (not very often) and found it to be an issue with Windows updates downloading or waiting to be installed. I had an issue with the machine once so I restarted. A Windows configuring message popped up. I found this to be the case the few times I did have an issue.
I disabled the touchscreen since I probably won’t use it very often so no comment on that. Same for the touchpad since I prefer a wireless mouse.
The not so positive:
The DVD drive is pretty flimsy and hard to close. If I used it a lot, I’m afraid I might end up breaking it at some point. You might want to look at that if you plan on using the drive a lot. Since I won’t, it is a minor issue.
As pointed out in another review, the power button is just not in a good location. When moving the laptop or trying to close the DVD drive I end up hitting the power button. After a while you learn to watch for that.
The speakers are not the best and located in a bad spot under the front of the laptop. When typing, my arms cover the speakers muffling the sound a bit. Since I would use headphones most of the time, I don’t see this as a deal breaker.
All in all, this is one nice laptop. I do not have any regrets in buying this at all.

Very happy so far with this Asus 2 in 1. Fast processor, good graphics card, touch screen very responsive. It is a regular sized laptop and has some weight to it (to be expected). Is does have a slight noise to processor, but not too bad. Comes with an external speaker, actually have not used yet. Its a very good tablet and has the capability to be an on the go work horse. This has taken the place of my pc. I do still have a 10" portable for playing games and quick things. Would be a 5 star except that slight processor noise.

I was searching for a laptop or notebook that could run FPS games for at least a range of 60 FPS. A Best Buy employee came across this one and the only reason I chose it is because it has various functions. It is a 360 foldable laptop, it is touchscreen and has the ability to multitask more than other laptops. It came with a 1TB HD 12GB RAM and a 940M GPU and a i7 CPU which was good enough for a few FPS games. I usually play MOBA and run over 140 FPS with Ultra (League of Legends) and maybe 60FPS on CS ultra. I wish I had gotten something better for the price, but I was searching for a portable computer and not a Desktop. I have had to factory reset this laptop 3 times for the past year due to drivers and Windows 10. I recently also removed my CD ROM and got a SSD caddy and placed a 250 SSD from Samsung. So far it is great for gaming, school work and a few fun touchscreen apps.

Initial review
Pro
Love the 2 n 1 design and how the hinge is made,
Metal Body -It will be a fingerprint magnet, however at this point I don't know many items made with this type of material that is not that way.
Dedicated Video card
12 GB of Memory is a good start, I hope there is room for 16 GB
Cons:
power supply is huge, will take up more spots that it should on a power strip.
Should have SSD instead of a 5400 HDD
Not sure if this is retaliative to my specific laptop or if other exact versions will have this issue, my track pad make a like tick noise each time you touch the track pad, a little annoying, but not a deal breaker.

In one of my last attempts to avoid jumping onto Mac line ups and stay with Windows, I picked this one up from Best Buy -- and I must say it is a great laptop. Best Buy was offering a sweet deal and with so many useful features on offering, this is a hard machine to beat. So far so good, in slightly more than a month of my use, I haven't experienced any lag, heating or other minor pesky problems even after 10 hours of solid data crunching for my school work. Being 2 in 1 feels a little awkward with 15.6 in. in tablet mode facing so bluntly at you.. Typing on keyboard (backlit) is a better experience overall, and screen resolution is not bad. On board RAM seems sufficient for my usage and processor is fast and smooth. Overall a very good laptop for the price and features, especially if you catch it on a sale. A Window's 10 update installed just today is seeming to be making the trackpad a little unresponsive, hopefully that's nothing major.
Let's see how long this computer keeps up with my hope of lasting for more than 2 years without just giving up on me, that my previous HP, and Lenovo laptops have failed to do..

I had another Asus for the past several yeras but it "grew tired" and abese (from my huge and super varied "interests & needs"). That one's worst feature(s) also were SOUND SYSTEMS: Not very loud or good quality and that one did not even have true volume control, only "fn key operation. ----- This Asus does have separate volume control (GREAT) BUT the Speaker Sound Is Far Worse, hence it comes with a SEPARATE PLUG IN SPEAKER that makes it tolerable SOMETIMES but of course UNUSABLE when trying to be even a bit PORTABLE (ex. if I move Asus from my office to my living room, I never bother taking the external Speaker! ----- If "sound" is a BIG THING for you, Do NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER! For me, it is not though it COULD BE FAR MORE USEFUL NOTEBOOK For Me, IF Sound VOLUME/QUALITY were 10xs better!
Other than Those Issues; A GREAT NOTEBOOK, Maybe even FANTASTIC!!! ----- I use it for my very active TRADING (Selling Options, both Puts & Calls) where I use HDMI to utilize another Larger Screen for my CNBC or tastytrade vieiwing from TDA and 2/3 of that screen for other things such as email, news, my BLOGS I WRITE DAILY, my Nearly Daily YOUTUBE CHnnel I Add Videos onto. and to keep up with my Followers, and Subscribers and all other functions such as Search, FB stuff, other research, etc. and my Asus Screen to "Do My Trading" on the Think or Swim Platform. ------ I also WRITE many publications and continue to work on my NUMEROUS BOOKS on various subjects, and find that USING a multi UBS plug in, I can/do easily hook up my 3 separate External Hard Drives to Store my Terabytes of Data, Photos, Video and more. (I also am a photographer and Videographer and USE the ASUS as a Tablet for my DIGITAL PAINTINGS, Cartoons and Other. It Works GREAT for all that and again IS FAST and Dependable and EASY TO USE! I may Begin a Weekly Interactive Internet Show and Hope To Use My ASUS for that too as a major tool! ----- Yes, I am VARIED and This ASUS IS GREAT for ME other than the SPEAKERS! ---- And As I TEACH/GUIDE 1000s "How To Live Very Well, SIMPLY & Inexpensively As They Grow Their Minds, Bodies & Souls AS ONE and grow more "Healthy, Wealthy & Wise" always (through my Training I Provide my People). ----- Hope this review HELPS YOU to fill your needs and Make a Wise Purchase or Not! Q552 seems very good so far

So far my ASUS Q552 seems to be a good laptop (5 wks). Graphics are good, speed is decent, touch screen and keyboard are fine (although several keys aren’t lit from front angle and some had faded print new). Battery 5-6 hours. It went on clearance 2 wks after I bought so 2016’s is probably even better.
Early 2014 I bought my first laptop – an ASUS because of their great reputation and their graphics topped others by far except Samsung. Ended up getting 5 lemons over 3 models and swore never ASUS again. Problems were immediate or within days – one wouldn’t even boot up. Had defective touch screens & keyboards, WiFi problems, defective batteries, chargers that burned hand, noise, shut-downs for no reason, etc. Returned last one very frustrated and set aside getting a laptop – couldn’t continue wasting time and money and knew I’d have to research from scratch.
2016 did a lot of research and narrowed down to an MSI or HP Envy at $1,000. Realized MSI wasn’t touch screen and while Envy was highly rated, the negatives were similar issues I had with lemon ASUS’s. When I read a guy had 5 Envy lemons, I reconsidered ASUS and researched more. Decided to gamble because of ASUS’ strong reputation and they’d had 2 yrs to resolve issues (touch screens and 2-in-1’s were fairly new back then). I bought Best Buy's 3-yr warranty (half the price they use to be) - 1st yr overlaps manuf’s, to avoid what I dealt with previously – my 1st ASUS had to be sent across the country 4 times for repairs and each time came back with orig problems plus new ones.
I had BB do new set-up and because the manager remembered me, they challenged it so any problems would hopefully show within 15-day return period (my Elite plus status/45-day returns was expiring).
Don’t like that black shell heavily shows finger prints virtually impossible to remove and looks cheap (preferred HP’s brushed aluminum which looked quality and didn’t show prints at all).
Has built-in DVD which few laptops still do. Adds unnecessary weight for something I rarely use although still a decent weight.
It occasionally drops WiFi but otherwise seems to be the quality expected from the ASUS name. (Holding my breath after prior ASUS experiences.)

Purchased in mid-January 2016. Sales associate Tim at the West Lansing store was incredibly helpful and recommended this laptop. Found me an open box at a cheaper price, then it went on sale a few days later so I exchanged for a new one and still saved $50 more. Best Buy exchange was super easy and great customer service. As far as the laptop I'm not that tech savvy but I reviewed laptops at length before buying. Specs-wise this thing is loaded, best value I've seen, top brand, and probably more than I need for web browsing, photos, music, streaming and the like. But I wanted maximum horsepower for the price and so far this delivers. Fast startup, connecting to network and wireless devices has been flawless. Only problem I'm having is a periodic display driver error when web browsing but I've researched and this seems to be an Intel and/or Windows 10 issue that is being constantly improved with updates. Even when it crashes it restores you right back to where you were. Getting used to Windows 10, set up is definitely different than old XP I was running at home or 7 that I use at work. Touch makes it a lot easier with the app-based approach and I can use Cortana to search and pull up all the functions I was used to before like control panel. Overall strong recommend and I look forward to maximizing this laptop's incredible potential and using it for years to come.

Got it in December "Open Box" for very cheap. Gets 4 stars due to the slow HD. Replaced the original HD with a 500GB ssd and speed improved considerably. Two minor issues I did not figure out how to fix: 1) the side volume rocker switch will turn the volume up but not down, 2)every start, cold or wake from sleep the volume resets to zero. No big deal as long as it runs the way it does with no issues what so ever so far.

I've been one of those holding out on Win10 until I found a machine which could work flawlessly in both PC and tablet modes while still having all the bells and whistles of a high end laptop like a DVD drive, multiple usb 3.0, hdmi, etc. and with this ASUS, I think I found it. Screen resolution is great, build is strong, speed is fantastic. Besides having to update Win10 multiple times and also the video drivers, this laptop has been hassle free. This laptop got the power and the speed to play GTA V. Much better than my old Toshiba laptop which runs slowly even with the SSD installed on it. The only con is it didn't have a DVD playback software like most computers with a DVD drive should have. That's why I can only give this laptop 4 stars like come on Asus you can't go the extra step into doing that? But other than that I love this laptop. After I slap in my new Samsung SSD I ordered on Amazon, this laptop is gonna be so insane!!!

Bought and have been using for 2 months. Love the versatility of the 2 in 1 and touch screen. Nice to have the built in cd/dvd player for my purposes. Many 2 in 1 computers do not have this. The external speaker included in the box really improves the sound. Asus builds their own motherboards that have a great reputation. Windows 10 - no problem. Glare from screen a bit distracting. A non-glare screen protector is my next purchase.

Very good lap top, this is my 3rd Asus. very fast and love the touch screen and ability for being both tablet and pc. A couple of strange things however. I couldn't find an online manual or one on the hard drive. Windows 10 is pretty buggy. Case is a finger print magnet, and the standard headphone does not fit. I had to buy a USB sound card. And the SD card doesnot fit in like the older labtops.
