Q: is the DVD player read and write?
A: It is Read/Write. It is a very good laptop...I am really impressed with its specs and performance with Photo Shop CC and my many image and video processing programs. The Screen is VERY good. It has a few nice features that aren't noted in the specs. Mine came with a plug in external sub woofer/speaker which makes it quite a bit louder.I like the mouse pad that has the standard left/right buttons but also you can click anywhere on the pad by pushing down...it clicks audibly just like the other two. It has three USB 3 ports which I need, HDMI, and Ethernet port for wired connections. There is also a button on the side of the keyuboard that when pushed switches to the Windows icon screen if you use that. The case is all aluminum...not sleazy plastic so impresses with the attention to quality. Battery life is quite good for a laptop too.
Q: How hot does this laptop get in regards to sitting with it in your lap
A: It's vents out the back between the chassis and the hinge, and it's fairly thick with very low-power components. Plenty of room for heat dissipation within the unit before it even gets to the fan. It's one of the few laptops I feel comfortable using in bed because it won't overheat, and it never gets uncomfortably hot in my lap.
Q: Is the version of windows 10 with this machine 32 bit or 64 bit?
A: It has Windows 10 Home 64 bit.
Q: Does this laptop have a bay for a second hard drive?
A: No ASUS laptop does not have a bay. You would have to purchase an external hard drive that plugs into the side of your laptop. I plan to buy one soon so most of what I currently store on my laptop will be transferred to the external hard drive. Each time you power down your laptop the external hard drive gets unplugged.
Q: Does it have a DVD/CD writer?
A: Yes it has a DVD reader and writer
Q: is it wise to switch out 1 tb hard drive for SSD
A: I think we all should upgrade HDD to SSD. It's just waste of this computer to run on a HDD and waste our time in the long run. I would start up with the HDD to create the bootable disk out of Windows 10 and work with for a month probably, and then do a clean install. You want to make sure everything works fine before affecting the guarantee on the product.
Q: How long does the battery last while searching on the web and Microsoft programs?
A: As I was doing all those tasks with the screen brightness all the way up, and the back-lit key board on high, and also doing some light gaming I got a good 3 hours. So if you just did all the regular stuff you could probably get a good 4 or 5
A: The RAM memory is not expandable. Maximum RAM it can support is 12GB.
