    Outstanding Performance and Display Quality

This Asus Chromebook/laptop is very well equipped. First, it has a powerful Intel Core i5 CPU, Intel UHD graphics, 128GB storage and 8GB memory. And a generous number of ports- 2 USB A 3.2 Gen1 ports, 2 USB C Power/DisplayPort/Combo ports, 1 HDMI port, and a headphone jack. The display is FHD 1920 x 1080 anti-glare touchscreen, and the forward-facing camera is also 1080p, with a microphone array. It comes loaded with the standard google type apps - Chrome, Calendar, Gmail, Google Meet, Play Store, Messages and Photos. This particular Chromebook also has YouTube and Gemini. During setup, if you sync it with your existing Android profile you can automatically pull in your apps and games. Gemini is a great information source tool that I use often as an educational source. For example, if you're wondering what a USB Type C DisplayPort/Combo port is, ask Gemini, you'll get a detailed explanation about the different types of ports and what they do. Working with files on this Chromebook is easy. I have Excel files stored on a NAS (home network attached storage). I was able to connect to my NAS, pull up an Excel file and have the option of opening it with Google Sheets or Microsoft 365, then saving it to cloud storage. Also, most popular apps are available to download through the Play Store. I use mostly Zoom Workspace for meetings, and I was able to add it from the app store. Other common apps like Discord, TikTok, etc., and games are available. As far as working on this Chromebook, the Chrome OS (operating system) is very fast. There's no lag in starting up or opening apps, it's like instantaneous, you can move fast. I play Clash of Clans on an android tablet, and it loads faster on this Chromebook than my tablet and plays flawlessly. You can also download and play popular Windows or Xbox computer games designed for the Chrome OS. Battery life is very good; I spent four hours surfing on it and playing games and it still didn't need to be recharged The touchscreen anti-glare display on this Chromebook is also very high performing. It has deep, rich color and clarity. In both gaming and streaming videos and movies or just looking at photos the picture quality is outstanding. The Audio quality is acceptable. If there is one thing lacking on this Chromebook, for me it's the absence of a backlit keyboard. With all the other high-quality components in this Chromebook, they should have included a backlighted keyboard. Gemini says Chrome OS supports backlit keyboards; it's up to the manufacturer whether they want to include it. Asus missed on this point. Overall if you're looking for a high-performance touchscreen Chromebook with an outstanding display, this one fills the bill. Other than my complaint about no backlit keyboard, Asus made this Chromebook top-notch. You get what you pay for, and in this Chromebook, you get performance.

The Asus CX34 14" Chromebook Plus Laptop has redfined my expectations in the Chromebook space. The specs are excellent and the performance is even better on this device. It is a dream for media consumption, with seemingly unlimited battery life while streaming movies and my favorite TV shows. The screen is beautiful and large enough to enjoy, while still being portable and lightweight. Productivity on this laptop is also a breeze, and I have no issues multi-tasking work meetings while updating spreadsheets or updating tickets. The keyboard is excellent and the overall build quality of this Chromebook is impressive to say the least. The sound quality is good enough to enjoy films and even stream music in my office, with no distortion and even some bass! My kids have also enjoyed using this device for some light school work and studying, as well as playing some games from the Play Store. Setup was a breeze and I was up and running in minutes, even importing all my Google data from my other devices. Overall the Asus CX34 is an excellent entry into the market and I recommend it without reservation.

Chromebook 'Plus' a Nice Step Up

This Chromebook Plus is far more powerful than any Chromebook I have owned before. The specifications are excellent. It will cost a little more than ‘normal’ Chromebooks, but the better speed and other features are well worth the price differential. Of course, this device is what's called a Chromebook Plus for a reason, and the 'Plus' does indicate a more sophisticated and more powerful laptop. Improvements for a Chromebook Plus over a Chromebook include: improved multitasking, more gaming capabilities, a full HD touchscreen with higher resolution and a more solid physical design while keeping a very lightweight device. All these upgrades are obvious when using the more powerful device. My experience with many apps on this device so far has been great. I had been disappointed with my prior Chromebooks usually because of the lower power of the prior models’ CPU and storage technology. This unit has an Intel 13th generation Core-i5 which has 10 cores and 12 threads, very nice for handling things extremely fast on a Chromebook – yeah! It also has 8Gb of memory and 128 GB of UFS storage. This UFS technology has faster data transfer speeds compared to eMMC (older stuff). It can read and write at the same time, which also helps makes it faster than the old stuff. These are just some upgrades but may help you determine if this is the Chromebook for you. All the prior ease of use of a Chromebook has been maintained. Google AI is built in, with Gemini, and with the more powerful specifications, this unit has outstanding performance capabilities that come in handy for use with Gemini. I also installed Adobe Photoshop and have found it works great on this device. It is the ‘Photoshop on the Web’ version which is a little lighter weight version, but it provided all the functionality I needed. This unit has an FHD 1920 x 1080 NanoEdge anti-glare touchscreen that is very bright and along with the 10-hour battery life; I have experienced that it is the perfect take along unit. The touchscreen comes in handy on planes and this unit has a great keyboard – tip of the cap to the ASUS engineers for building an ideal unit for mobile needs. It is not for high end gaming of course, but Chromebooks are designed to handle computer resources more efficiently and have quicker performance for stuff like web surfing and day to day desktop applications. This efficiency also helps to yield its very good battery life. Also recall that Chromebooks have never had a successful viral attack – nice. I do like Office 365 and I have a subscription. I discovered that I can use that subscription for no additional charge on a Chromebook. But would it install on this Chromebook? The answer is a qualified YES. You simply can create a shortcut to an online version of Office365. I do also use the included suite of office tools that a Chromebook comes with free, but I am pleased that I have the Office365 option and wanted others to know. I highly recommend this 'souped-up' Chromebook. It is a great companion for me on trips and also for use at home as well.

    Sold Chromebook with Snappy Performance

I have used ChromeOS in the past and have been happy how easy, stable and quick it is. Keep in mind that a Chromebook is primarily a media consumption machine. It's more stable than Windows and more responsive and you can do many productivity functions including word processing and spreadsheets. You are limited in the software you can install and use. Applications are primarily limited to what you can download in the play store. However, as many applications do move the web, you will be able to do more business work on this type of device. With all that being said, this machine is a fantastic Chromebook machine. Asus builds solid machines and this one is no different. It feels strong and sturdy. The touch pad is a little sensitive but that can be adjusted. The screen is excellent and looks great. Watching video and web browsing is solid and looks great. As I mentioned before, Chromebook is very responsive and the hardware in this device supports that. This one has a 13th generation i5 processor with 12 cores which will support anything you run on it. It also has 8GB of RAM so it will not slow down. Very happy with this laptop and I would highly recommend it.

I have used plenty of laptops of all different styles, shapes and sizes and Asus by far makes the budget laptops that pack a serious punch. This machine is no different, and if you are looking for your bacic Chromebook with internet capabilities and a machine that does a lot more than that, this is the device for you. Not only does this boast a 14" beautiful screen that delivers a powerful graphics processor, this also packs a bit of memory for everyday tasks and this is a machine that will be fast on Wifi and processing plenty of speed when it comes to streaming or just about anything you want to do. Why get a bulky large machine when you can get the same tasks done with a sleek, slim smaller laptop that you can easily pack away in your bag or backpack and not paying it any mind that it takes up space. This laptop delivers just what I needed it to do and more and plus its backed by the reliable Asus name which lasts a lot longer than most other machines on the market that tout more capability.

I’m biased against laptops that do not have backlit keyboards and this laptop does not. What is making me think less about this omission is that it is well built. By that I mean that as I type this the screen is not shaking or vibrating, the keys are responsive to the touch and the spacing of the keys feels comfy to my large fingers. I’m not looking at an OLED or 4K screen, which is great because I’m seeing only the white background of this digital page instead of my reflection. And who really wants to watch 4K HDR content on a 14 inch screen anyway. Asus describes the color of this laptop as “rocky grey” and against the black keys of the keyboard, I’m actually liking the look more than I thought I would. As I type this I’m surrounded by a sea of grey and black laptops and I find an odd comfort in being able to easily pick this device out of the pile of other laptops simply based on the color. The underside of the laptop includes 4 rubber feet at the corners with the rear two connected with a long strip of plastic. At first touch with the laptop closed, this seems like an odd design choice, but when I placed the laptop on my lap and began typing I was pleased to see the laptop is not slipping off my legs. The long strip of plastic acts as an anti-slipping mechanism trading visual aesthetics with functionality. I’m impressed. This model includes a touch screen and 8GB of RAM which for a Chromebook is more than enough RAM. At least until Artificial Intelligence hit the computing space. The laptop can be upgraded to 16GB if for some strange reason you want to turn this thing into a local LLM. The built-in camera includes an orange privacy shutter which starkly contrasts against the black bezels, presumably to let you know without a doubt that the camera is being blocked, but my eyes keep floating up to glance at it which is really affecting my ability to focus. After a few days of experimenting I’ve resigned myself to keeping the shutter open. It’s like trying to talk to someone with a red dot on the center of their forehead: you just can’t ignore it and you have to look at it. I’m adding this to the negative check box list on what not to do on a laptop. Geeking out on specs for a moment all the basics are covered. HDMI 1.4, 3.5mm Audio Jack, Dual USB Type-A and dual USB-Type-C (supporting display / power delivery) and Wi-Fi 6 make for a happy external connectivity experience. Overall I’m thinking less and less about the missing back-lit keyboard and as long as I keep the camera uncovered, I’m finding the general computing use of this laptop to be a great experience.

    Long Time Asus Fan

As a long-time ASUS fan, I went in expecting good things from the CX34 Chromebook Plus. ASUS has consistently delivered quality and reliability in every device I’ve owned (including a gaming laptop, an older generation laptop, and even a tablet at one point). The CX34 Chromebook keeps that streak going for me. This is a very reasonably prices laptop but really it looks and feels more expensive than it is. It’s not heavy, it’s lightweight and slim, but you know when you can just feel quality? This feels solid and durable—and it’s my travel/on-the-go laptop. I tend to prefer that over a tablet because I find them easier to use, with a track pad and more normal feeling keyboard. And let’s face it. AI is here and it’s not going anywhere, so we have to talk about that and it’s integration into the CX34. I honestly wasn’t sure how useful they’d be, but they’ve become part of my daily routine. Google’s Magic Eraser is one of those little tools I thought was cool but didn’t know I needed until I had it. I’m not sure if I have any unedited photos left! I like the AI enhancements during video calls too. The lighting in my front room where I take most calls is kind of funky at different times of the day. The automatic lighting adjustments and background noise filtering make a huge difference without me having to tweak anything or try to move the laptop to different angles without making myself look like I’m standing in front of a funhouse mirror. Basically, as an Asus fan, I’m sold. Good price, great features, Asus quality. Highly recommend it to anyone who wants something travel worthy but still gets the job done.
