Great gaming laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First and foremost, I liked the setup of this laptop. Maybe it’s a new thing with windows 11 but I didn’t have to use a Microsoft account to set up the computer. Maybe its just me, but that was one of the greatest things I immediately noticed when I set it up. It does require you to be connected to the internet and put in a few basic details to get Asus’s program to check for updates, but nothing as intrusive or irritating as having to connect an account to your windows profile. Especially if this is going to be used primarily by a family member and you don’t have their info or login. As gaming laptops go this is pretty decent. The size is big enough that you don’t feel like you’re being shortchanged on screen size or your hands are too cramped together trying to fit the keyboard. It doesn’t try to cut little things out, like a webcam, in order to save money or size when fitting a gaming rig into a small space. The keyboard even has the wasd keys in white to help them stand out and find them easier when gaming. Although, if you are a serious gamer you aren’t looking at your fingers trying to find those keys anyway, so it’s a bit more of a gimmick to try and make the computer look more hardcore gamer than it probably is. The overall look of the laptop is stylish and a bit mor angular than some other ones I would call more sleek. I do like that the lights and charging info isn’t covered by the lid when closed and I can see easily the lights if needed even when I’m using a docking station so the lid is closed. The computer has run all my games just fine, and while I wouldn’t recommend pushing all the settings to them max, it could probably handle them. I did notice when gaming for a bit, that the fan does kick on a bit sooner than other laptops I’ve used. No signs of overheating, and not particularly loud, but it is something I noticed. Windows 11 is a bit different than 10, but it really hasn’t been that big of a change and hasn’t really irritated me much. I don’t know if its Windows 11 or the build of this laptop, but I have found with a few other of my computers that it sometime takes a while to find the wifi signal and get connected. I haven’t noticed that with this one and it seems to connect almost right away. The hardware for most computer’s I’ve used nowadays can handle most of my games just fine, but where I really notice a difference is in how well it handles my accessories. Almost every gaming keyboard, mouse, headset, etc. seems to have their own program running in the background and that can bog things down. I almost never see any issues with the game itself, but occasionally a mouse pointer will drag or stutter, headsets will give a bit of choppy sound, or some other issue. I haven’t had any issues with this computer and the compatibility and seamless transition from a dock to laptop back to a dock is really refreshing. Overall a great laptop that I would highly recommend (even if they are trying a bit too hard to look like a gamer).

Best laptop I have ever owned.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have fallen in love with ASUS. This laptop is awesome. Right out of the box this thing screams awesome. It is sleek and narrow. It just has a special look to it. So much so that I have been asked about it several times. The battery was almost completely dead so I charged it up before turning it on and beginning the setup. It took about 10 minutes to update and get everything set up. After the update it was ready to go. Some of the key features are the 12th gen i7 processor, the GeForce RTX 3070 graphics card, full high def screen, 16 GB of RAM that is expandable to 32 GB (2 exp slots), and the 512 GB SSD drive. This thing is packed with hardware. Start-up is lightening fast. This is a great laptop for both work and gaming. You can have numerous tabs open with no hiccups or performance issues. I typically have many emails, spreadsheets, and other apps running at the same time while working and it's nice to have a machine that doesn't stutter or need to think about it when switching back and forth. Bottom line is I can get a lot of work done without a lot of muss and fuss. The anti-glare screen is amazing. Colors are bright and vivid. The screen is full HD and looks great. The keyboard is brightly backlit in white (not red like the Nitro!) and the keys are responsive. The laptop has 4 USB ports with a Thunderbolt port. It has a headphone jack and an HDMI port. It also has an ethernet port. What it does not have is an SD slot which would be nice. Performance-wise, this is the best laptop I have ever owned and I hate to say it, faster than my desktop. The battery life is more than sufficient with 3-4 hours of normal use. No longer will I use my desktop for gaming unless I do some upgrades. The 3070 graphics card handles anything I throw at it. No stuttering, no hiccups, no lines NOTHING. I have no issues playing COD or Forza. This thing can handle almost anything you throw at it. I have nothing bad to say about this machine and happily give it a full 5 stars. .

Gaming Laptop that exceeds my expectations
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since getting this laptop in my hands, I've enjoyed computer gaming again. I was previously playing games on a desktop with a GTX 1660 card and was patiently waiting for a drop in video card prices before the mining and chip shortage provided me a one-two punch against my gaming desires. I really had my doubts about gaming on a laptop too. I really wanted the ease of upgrade that a desktop affords, but I recently purchased an ASUS Vivobook for my dad that impressed us both to the point where I really wanted to get this ASUS Tuf Dash F15 Gaming Laptop. In the box, you get the laptop, a pretty beefy power supply (200W) and a few pieces of regulatory papers. For any manuals or upgrade guides, you really need to go online to the ASUS website. The laptop itself is built very well. It has some milspec rating for ruggedness, and it appears to able to take a light beating, but I hope to never test that. I'm rather surprised at its sleekness. It measures about an inch thick. I was expecting it to be thicker with such a powerful video card. Along the right side, there is a USB-A port and cooling vents. Along the left side there is a headphone jack, a second USB-A port, two USB-C ports where one of them is Thunderbolt 4 certified, an HDMI port, a network jack and power barrel connector as well as cooling vents. If I had to nit-pick this arrangement it's the power barrel connector almost in the middle of the left hand side. I would like the connector towards the rear, but it's set up this way because the venting consumes almost 3 inches of space towards the rear of the laptop on either side. Specs for this laptop include a 12th gen i7 processor, 16 GB of DDR5 RAM, 512 GB of NVMe Gen 3 storage, 144 Hz 15.6" IPS screen paired with an RTX 3070 video card. One of the things that I never significantly considered is the addition of the MUX switch. On a desktop computer with a discrete GPU, you get your video directly from the video card and completely bypass the onboard video processing capabilities of the processor. But on a laptop the HDMI port is shared by the integrated and discrete GPU, therefore video processing has to go through the CPU to manage the HDMI resources. This leads to the graphics bandwidth becoming potentially bottlenecked at the CPU. The MUX switch now becomes a video processing gateway so that the CPU doesn't have to manage the HDMI resources. What's more is that the ASUS software suite automatically detects what kind of graphics are needed and automatically switches between the integrated and discrete GPU based on the application needs. This year, the ASUS TUF Dash F15 does include a webcam. It's only capable of 720 resolution @ 30fps. So it's better than nothing, but I prefer a separate webcam if possible. I loaded up two games: Control and Star Wars: Battlefront II. Both games I set for the highest graphics settings and the video card did not have any problems keeping up. Textures and lighting were intense and the 144Hz screen made the motion buttery smooth. With the RTX 3070 and the 12th Gen i7 processor, there were no stutters experienced. The cooling fans kicked in right about the time the game loads the first level's textures. Surprisingly, the fans are quieter than I expected. I've had computers that were jet engines ready to launch, the fans on the ASUS Tuf Dash F15 are tuned a lot better and were easily tuned out, especially while wearing my gaming headset. After an hour of gameplay, the top couple rows of the keyboard got warm, but not excessively hot. So the thermals were working very well. The keyboard is backlit and the WASD keys are transparent. Unfortunately, I got the proverbial bad bulb in the box. The backlighting never worked for me despite playing around with newer drivers and device files. I am working with ASUS directly on this and they seem to be working with me quite well. While I may be initially disappointed with the lack of backlight, I'm pleased with the responsiveness with ASUS. The keys of the keyboard have decent travel. It feels very natural. The keyboard has 4 additional hot keys at the top. Volume Up and Down, Mute and the Armour Crate. Armour Crate is the ASUS-specific control panel. It's laid out pretty well and gives you real time statistics of the system and provides you with quick access controls to the system. Below the keyboard the touchpad is fairly large at 3"x5". The texture of the touchpad is extremely smooth. From my perspective this ASUS laptop also stands out because of the upgradeability. The bottom panel is secured by 12 screws and according to the guide, it exposes two RAM slots and two M.2 SATA ports. Many other vendors make the upgrade process difficult by employing an excessive amount of clips that may break upon opening and ASUS doesn't. I think the 16 GB that I already have is sufficient, but I'm glad to have the headroom to swap the two 8 GB sticks to two 16 GB sticks to give me a total 32 GB. What I'm really excited about is the ability to supplement my OS storage with a second NVMe drive. I'm pleased that both ports are Gen 4 so I should be able to splurge on the 7000 MB/s storage and be able to take advantage of it. I see myself upgrading the storage within the next several months as 512 GB can be consumed quickly with just a few modern games. I'm really quite impressed with the latest ASUS Tuf Dash F15 laptop. I'm enjoying getting back into PC gaming and the system is matched up quite well to deliver a detailed and very smooth gaming experience. The construction is surprisingly thin and belies the power contained. The upgradeability is a pleasing bonus that makes it easy to recommend this laptop to my friends.

Amazing gaming laptop; for pros, too
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS TUF Dash 15.6" laptop is an incredible laptop that is focused on gaming but also offers plenty of power for professional use. The unit I reviewed came in an off black color, and felt very sturdy out of the box. It weighs 4.4 pounds and measures .78 inches thin. The screen is 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) with a 144Hz refresh rate. The bezel around the screen is very tough, and feels like metal. The keyboard is low profile, with almost no keypress noise. It does include a numeric pad, which is nice for professionals. The WASD keys are highlighted by using clear key tops with a white background. The keys are backlit, which is nice for use in low light rooms. The power button is just above the keyboard on the right of a small vent area, while there are volume and mute buttons above the keyboard on the left. I would say the trackpad is slightly above average in size, but not to the point of accidentally using it. The bezel around the keyboard feels like a hard plastic. There are additional vents on the back and the bottom of the unit, blowing out hot air from 84-blade airflow fans. The unit does a great job with cooling, as the keys didn't feel hot even after hours of use. The right side of the case has 1 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port and the Kensington lock. The front and back have no ports. The left side of the case has the power supply input, RJ45 LAN port, HDMI port, 1 dedicated USB Type-C with Thunderbolt 4 support, 1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, another USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, and a 3.5 mm headphone/microphone combo jack. There are 2 speakers with Dolby Atmos support, and the in-unit microphone has AI Noise Cancellation to remove background noise from your conversation. There is a webcam included with 780p resolution. It would have been nice to have had a 1080p webcam and a privacy slider. The unit has Bluetooth compatibility and the in-unit network adaptor is 802.11ax with Wi-Fi 6 wireless connectivity. Inside the unit is a power combination of CPU and GPU with the Intel 12th Gen i7-12650H (10 cores, 16 threads) and the NVIDIA RTX 3070 with 8GB of GDDR6. The unit comes with 16GB of DDR5 4800Mhz memory which is more than enough memory for almost any need. For a hard drive, a 512GB PCIe ssd is included. That is an area for a potential upgrade, to a larger drive that is also Gen 4 instead of Gen 3. Upon startup, there is the Windows initialization and login, but I was up and running in under 15 minutes with some security downloads going in the background. There are a few pieces of bloatware that can be removed but nothing agregious. This laptop runs everything I threw at it like a dream. Newish games like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, God of War and even Minecraft (notable resource hog) played flawlessly. The laptop didn't get particularly loud or hot to the touch. A laptop with these kind of specs can also be useful for professionals using graphics or CAD software that are notoriously resource greedy. Other than the WASD keys being highlighted, these is nothing ostentacious about this unit that makes it an obvious gaming rig. It handles tons of browser tabs being open at the same time and typical business usage like multiple programs being open while Skype-calling with no effort. The Wi-Fi did run into an occasional hiccup at first, but I was downloading multiple updates at the same time, and the adapter is the newer ax protocol while my modem/router is the older ac protocol. Battery life gets used up quickly, as with every gaming laptop ever, so I would reccommend this unit be used while plugged in for any session over a couple hours long. Overall, this gaming laptop is quite fantastic. It handles gaming with ease, while also having the power and specs to handle professional tasks as well. It looks sharp, it isn't too heavy, and feels like it is made to last for years to come. I reccomend for all laptop users.

Finally, a quiet gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased an Alienware with similar specs as this laptop and was stunned at how ridiculously loud the Alienware laptop was. It sounded like an air conditioner. I returned it and took a chance on this Asus laptop, due to the good reviews. I am glad I did, because not only does it handle gaming well, but its like 90% quieter than the Alienware. Sure, the fans come on during intense gaming, but it doesnt drown out the audio at all, and most of the times, its hardly noticeable.

Very good device, despite lower grade display
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Poor display but absolutely respectable if you aren't a hardcore gamer/editing content. Speakers feel weak, but it is powerful and fast. Can play Cyberpunk on max settings with little issue. I got this on a black friday deal, so maybe it should be a little bit lower priced, but overall very satisfied for my type of use case: work/productivity, some AAA gaming but not competive, and for browsing/streaming
