    Router Asus RT-AC68P

I purchased this Asus RT-AC68p to replace Net Gear WNDR 3400 on 12/18/2015 after reading a lot of review. The reasons are: WNDR 3400 has 100M speed for wire and 54M for wireless, and from time to time (couple times /week) it drops the internet connection, and only can be recovered by power off/on reset. This is super annoying. Here is my home internet configuration: Comcast->Cable Modem Net Gear CM600-> Asus RT-AC68P->Net Gear WRT614. Asus RT-AC68p is for adults' computers and video streaming, cell phones … and Net Gear WRT614 is for kids computers, cell phones and other gadgets… in order to control their internet schedule and websites accessed. Asus RT-AC68p has parental control by MAC address base, consider to remove Net Gear WRT614 after Asus RT-AC68p's performance is fully tested at my home. The setup of RT-AC68P is so far easy. The signal strength is fine to cover my ~1600 sft house(both of 2.4G and 5G), and USB 3.0 hard disk file sharing also works by DNS, (registering Https://XXXXX.asuscomm.com), but the ftp function still does not work. Issue: I have internet connection-drop event twice until now (9 days after setup), can be recovered by Asus Rt-AC68p power off/on reset. So this is not cable modem CM600’s issue, it should be Asus RT-AC68p’s issue. My Net Gear WRT614 never has connection drop issue(but its speed is also only 100M for wire connection and 54M for wireless). This is the reason I only gave it 3 stars. I will still keep monitoring the performance of Asus RT-AC68P. If the internet connection drop happens again, I will consider going to best buy for replacement or even return it (Best buy 15 days return policy, right?)

I had to upgrade my modem and router to accommodate the family (Gamers and Netflix). I originally purchased the Linksys 1900c and the Netgear Nighthawk 1900 based on the Best Buy Manager's recommendation. Both were a disaster, returned the Linksys 3x's and the Netgear Nighthawk 2x's. Netgear wanted to charge $69 to fix the issue. Both routers would cut out/stop working daily and have to be re-booted. Being totally frustrated, I went online to learn that both products have a firmware issue that Asus has resolved. Not only does the router work perfectly, the range is about 20 feet further than both the Netgear Nighthawk and the Linksys products. If you are looking for a great router, I'd strongly endorse this Asus product.

I purchased this to replace an older Linksys unit that needed frequent reboots to work right, and this dual band Asus router was very easy to set up, configure the security features, and the launch page has all the information I need to see, including all connected clients, instead of having to go deep into menus and sub menus to find it. The signal strength distribution throughout my 2 story home is fantastic, and I have yet to need a reboot, and it's been running 24/7 for over a month. Bought it online, and picked it up at my nearby BestBuy, fast and smooth purchase, as always, Best Buy does not disappoint. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a strong & versatile router from a reputable seller.

I had a Xfinity dual band router/Modem combo before bought this one. I paid additional 10$ everymonth plus my internet usage always cross 400Gb.My 1 year old son always see repeated videos from various streaming sites. I want to cut my internet charge and need more speed for Intranet. I searched various router in internet and atlast found this one. Ultimate Speed - I have more than 15 wifi devices at home including xboxone, apple tv and 2 chrome cast. We always play media from various devices and mirrorcast my screen in all these devices. This modem is smooth and fast i dint felt any single lagging and its ultra fast. DLNA : I setup the inbuilt media server and added all my media files in my WD drive and add it to the USB 3.0 port. Now for my son i dont have any issues, he is watching his favourite songs and rhymes n number of times. Admin Control : The admin site is Rich and user friendly , i can track who is watching and i can control thier download/upload speed in easy way. Cons: Waiting for the first issue and update if i find one :)

    Keyword filter Netflix problems,drops connections

1/17/16 UPDATE: Just short of a MONTH, like many others of short varying times, as of today this router (purchased new from Best Buy) has began having to be rebooted like the previous failing Netgear R6300v2 it replaced. It also, like others have reported, has a mostly unstable USB 3.0 connection, often times the connected drive cannot be seen. These two latest developments combined with the previously mentioned Netflix blocking bug caused by using keyword blocking that I previously mentioned, has given me no choice but to drop another star, down to a total of three now sadly. Oh-and noteworthy: Within a few days after I set this up-almost immediately, I hung a small (80mm) PC fan on the back of this to help keep it cool-in AN EFFORT to PREVENT premature failure caused by overheating. I repeatedly check the router, placing my hand at various places, and it is ALWAYS nice and cool. This tells me the build quality is so poor, the parts used are so poor, that even with added ample cooling, failure is STILL just a matter of time. Sigh, I guess soon starts the incredible aggravation of trying to get it repaired. Will try and post another follow up in time. ---ORIGINAL REVIEW-12/23/15:--- First, a little BACKSTORY: This router (RT-AC68P) was just purchased and installed to replace a 2 day LEMON Netgear R7000 Nighthawk that repeatedly dropped wifi connections every couple minutes right out of the box, and that (R7000) had replaced Netgear R6300v2 which after 2 years began to fail, losing connections to wifi devices at least once a week requiring reboot, and sometimes losing COMPLETE connection to internet. Note all firmwares were up to date from Netgear, no new cordless phones or other devices that would possibly cause interference. Asus RT-AC68P So went with the Asus RT-AC68P since other than slightly faster CPU it is apparently the same overall as the previous AC68U model that had some issues but overall did well in the reviews, and am not happy where Netgear is going in recent years. Used the setup wizard after restarting my cable modem and all seemed to go fine, but after clicking FINISH button had no internet. Waited 5-10 minutes, then went over to one of the pages (forget which, perhaps LAN?) and hit apply and it came up. Strange, but okay. Next I start taking care of a few reserved IP addresses and port forwards for IP cams I use, as well as entering a handful of urls in the block list and a handful of keywords to the block list. As someone used to Netgear's interface for many years-at least the four previous routers, I found this new interface with a bit of a learning curve, and some things in odd places, but figured it out and all seemed well once I got the hang of it. Wifi signal stronger than R6300v2 (to be expected as this is newer and has external antennas) and reached a bit further-great, one outdoor IP cam that previously had constant dropouts (even when old router was working fine) no longer has them. All seemed great and promising, until I tried to use NETFLIX. Not just on one device, but all devices, wired or wireless. Any movie chosen would start, play a minute or two, attempt to buffer and stop. Over and over. Rebooting router and modem did nothing. Searched high and low and the SLIGHT search results I could find via Google mentioned port 443 and 80 have to be open. I found this odd because I never had to do this last several routers. Needless to say, digging further and just thinking about the nature of the issue pointed me to a "firewall" type issue. Though I haven't found much discussion on this either, apparently using the KEYWORD FILTER LIST basically kills Netflix. While I'm annoyed that I can't use this feature, at least not until a (hopeful) future firmware update resolves the issue, I'm glad to have Netflix working again. Note I did try removing a few words one by one, restarting streaming devices, and no change. These were all profane words and extremely doubtful to be in any movie title so this must be just something to do with how it filters traffic to Netflix. Was there one word causing the trouble? Kinda doubt it-seems more like simply having the keyword list set to enable. Either way as soon as it was disabled, Netflix works just fine. I've heard talk by some stating Netflix has likely implemented stricter DNS methods to keep people from outside Netflix's legal/supported areas from using the services, however this is not the case in USA-Netflix is legal and authorized. In any event that's all for now, will be updating with more (including USB 3.0 external drive I will be connecting) ASAP, just wanted to help anyone having Netflix problems since there was very little I could find, and I find it hard to believe I'm the only one that has come across this. Hopefully I will be reporting continued success as I have neither the TIME nor the PATIENCE to repeatedly factory reset and enter tons of configuration info, and of course to spend hours on end with the Indian tech support script readers that seldom solve problems, that so many of these PC companies use. Fingers crossed until next time.

I decided to purchase this after my Belkin N600DB was limiting my new Arris 6183 speeds. I am thoroughly impressed with all the options this router offers you. it has VPN features for accessing your network away from home, and the WiFi settings are easy to configure. Asus made this easy to set up and that's great. I did have to tweak some settings to optimize my network. I changed the signal strength to 40hz on my 2.4 GHz channel and it improved my wireless speeds greatly almost to what I have hardwired. I haven't tinkered with it enough but I will tomorrow to see what else it is capable of. I know it offers media streaming options with the usb port{s) it has. In general this is a strong contender for the top list of wireless routers in my book. I won't go back to Belkin they charge for phone service after three months into your warranty. what a joke really..... Asus is awesome I have never tried their line of routers but it is well worth it.

I've had a TPLink modem/router for almost 2 years and after purchasing 2 Roku 3s and with two wireless laptops in the house and kids and grand kids coming over with their IPads etc. The TPlink couldn't handle it all.. dropping signal and connections.. kids complaining, I had to do something. So I purchased this router on recommendation of a Savy Best Buy sales girl. When I asked about a new modem to go along with new router, she explained I could save money by keeping my TPLInk modem/router and the new Asus Router would interface and only use the modem which works fine. She was correct, simple installation, follow the bouncing ball and you're installed and online in just minutes. The speed and signal strength are incredible.. Everyone is happy.. no more complaints. And I live in Northern Baja California, Mexico and still the installation was easy... almost Plug&Play.

I had a Linksys WRT that starting having issues and wasn't working as well as it should have. Certain devices couldn't connect to the internet, such as my Kindle and Sonos speakers, and eventually it was determined I needed to get a new router. I opted for the Asus after speaking with a gentleman at Best Buy, and I haven't regretted it. The router works great! It was relatively easy to set up, and it can handle all of my devices at once. It's sleek and doesn't take up a lot of room.

Very impressive device. Did some research online and asked the net geeks in store what impressed them, and this unit seemed to be the choice. I am not disappointed in the least. Really good range - picks up wireless devices in the bedrooms on the opposite end of the house with strong signal, as well as out into the yard. Zero restrictions on my 100mbps internet speeds. I did spend the $99 to have Geek Squad go over my install, just for peace of mind regarding security. He did reinstall the firmware, which might be a bit tricky for one less geeky as myself. A call to Asus would have also solved it, but I wanted the tech to go over my setup and make sure the security was rock solid. Very happy with the setup.

I initially had an issue with set up so I contacted support for help. They reviewed the set up and told me to call my internet provider. I called Comcast who told me the setup was correct and that I had to contact Asus. I thought that I was going to have to return the unit. I noticed an alert to update the firmware so I did. That did the trick! Once everything rebooted it was fine. Now the speed test readings are the best I have ever had. Reading 133mbps on 5G. My internet drop outs are also gone. Great router, fair support.

I purchased this router to help increase my current Charter broadband internet speed. I tested my download speed with my existing router and it was at 35mbps. I quickly connected my new Asus-WirelessAC 1900 Router in about 3 minutes using my iPhone. I retested my Charter broadband internet speed using the same test as before, and the new speed is showing 131mbps!!! That's almost quadruple my old speed using this router. I would absolutely recommend considering this router to greatly increase your internet speed as well increasing the size of my wifi footprint by almost double.

I'm going to come right out and say it, this router is stupid-fast. Asus incorporated solid signal and blazing performance into a quite-attractive piece of kit. There are many configuration options available, as well as a plethora of features to really streamline your network operation. Most of those features I'll never use; I was interested primarily in its speed and firewall/QoS management, and for a consumer-grade piece of hardware, I was not disappointed. Where this device fails however is in its web-accessed GUI. There's one word to describe it perfectly: buggy. It gets stuck almost every other click on a page/tab/option forcing sometimes several page refreshes to get it to display properly. On top of that, many settings changes require several minutes to apply. Once the router is configured however, you won't be having to worry about that. It's a set-and-forget deal. Bottom line, this router provides great performance and aesthetics for a competitive price, and I would recommend it to a friend.

The documentation is good, and is worth a read if you are not expert at setting up routers. This router replaced an older router in a "congested" apartment building that was having severe wifi connectivity problems using Comcast ISP. The setup user interface is easy to use, and we were on the internet in less than half an hour. Performance and reliability have been great so far,
