    Great Choice

I was looking to upgrade my modem and router both, and settled on this router based from the reviews I read. My house has 3 ps4s, a ps3, 3 iphones, a kindle tablet, and an ipad, ALL of which are used for gaming. I wanted a router that could keep up with all the gaming systems being used at once, and this one did not disappoint. I absolutely LOVE that I can go on an app on my phone and see what all is connected to it, and turn off internet for each individual one, if I need to. Definitely recommend this one.

    Nearly perfect router!

Purchased this after a horrible experience with the netgear nighthawk r8000. This router is great, works with all the devices in my home, from the aquarium controller to the Logitech remotes and the Samsung ultrabook that the netgear refused to work with. Setup was easy and quick, setup page loaded quickly on first try. Has a set up wizard for those technologically challenged & is easy to access more advanced options for the more tech savvy. This router even had the most up to date firmware installed out of the box. This was a great upgrade from my aging gen 2 AirPort Extreme & works reliably, something the netgear did not do. Would be completely perfect if it had a second 5ghz radio in it.

    Terrible for gamers

I'm a gamer. I need great pings all the time, regardless of who is downloading what file, or what kind of video streaming is going on in my busy house. This router advertises Quality of Service (QoS), both in a newer "adaptive" form that is supposed to be aware of the traffic type, as well as a "traditional" form where you have to manually set up all of the priorities, which quickly becomes tedious and time-consuming with even a mild number of new games/applications per year. So, here's the story: old router (D-LINK DGL-5500) was having trouble and we can't have the house off the Net for weeks waiting for an RMA return, so I buy this router, update the firmware to the latest version (4585), configure the router, and turn on Adaptive QoS (setting the download/upload speeds for my network). I set Gaming to the highest priority, and web surfing/file downloads to the lowest. In testing, I downloaded a file from a website or a game via Steam. As soon as I started the download, my kids, playing different games on different computers, immediately had terrible lag. I tried a 3rd game on my computer with the same result. So I stopped the download and the lag immediately went away. "Okay", I thought, "I just need to set my network bandwidth in the QoS settings to be a bit lower to give an extra buffer for the games". So I reduced the download speed by 10mbit per second and the upload by 0.5 mbit per second. Tested again, and again, immediate and terrible lag for all gamers. So... I tested the "traditional" method of QoS using the default settings (which claim to be good for gamers), but with also setting browsing to low priority. Again, terrible lag using the correct download/upload speeds for my network or using reduced speeds. I even tried a third party firmware (DD-WRT), turned on QoS, and while it was better, it wasn't good by any means. Gameplay was still jumpy at times and not much fun. So, while this router may be good for non-gamers, it is terrible in its current form for gamers. I have already bought another DLINK DGL-5500 to replace my old one. The DGL-5500 works amazingly well with its Streamboost tech; you just turn it on and NEVER have lag in any game regardless of what else is downloading on the network.

    It works

Needed a wireless router to reach out to all parts of my 2800 sq ft house. It did that however I'm disappointed that I cannot use my Androids to download content from a USB HD that is connected to it. All of my Apple products connect and download but all of my Androids have the same error "file missing or damaged". Should really give it a 3 because of that but I was looking for no drops and better range and it did do that.

We were looking for a router modem combo but couldn't find one so we used our existing modem and purchased this router. We had a few issues to begin with but we seem to have worked out all the issues.

This is a dual band AC gigabit router. I would of given 5 Stars, did not because the 2.4ghz signal is not as good as I thought it would be, 5ghz signal is awesome.

I've never been disappointed with ASUS routers. They are solid, great performing routers that I have not had to reboot for many months. There are also open source alternative software versions you can install so you are in total control of your network.

This router is worth the money. I had issues with my last one constantly not only due to it being a g router but having so much running off it. Now I have this AC router and not one issue.

    Bad Buy

I bought this in Feb 2015. After 20 days the problem started. The connection would drop five times in a span of 60 minutes. Sometimes it was easier to connect back, some times I could not see the netwOrk name listed. Called customer service three times. All they do is to change SSID (NETWORK NAME). wORKS GOOD FOR TWO DAYS AND PROBLEMS START AGAIN. Cannot return it because its 30 days. Asus will take it back repair it and send it back in Seven days. I am on my own for seven days. I have to pay the mailing costs. WILL NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT AGAIN, WASTED $190.

After disconnecting my TV service I needed a reliable router that I could have for years to come. By far this was the best choice for my price range. And I don't regret the purchase at all

    Not a 'Best Buy'

Overall its a great router... Fast and powerful. However, it seems Asus has completely dumped the product and offer very little support for it, you can confirm this by going to their website and searching this model under support, it isn't there, what kinda company doesn't support their products and leaves them on the shelves?. Beyond the day one setup, I have been unable to regain access my router settings, either because the router has a firmware/software issue, or because its been hacked and altered, possibly both, I do not know, but it randomly shows suspicious behavior, like someone is accessing it remotely. I have been unable to factory reset it, and have found no support or anyway to find the information from Asus, to reset or access the router.

Purchased this router as i was recommended by BestBuy sales agent. In the beginning it worked very well and i was happy. After 4 weeks some devices stopped connecting and when I reset, it got worse. After calling Asus and they were not able to help me, I returned the router.

    EXCELLENT ROUTER!

We bought this router to replace a Nighthawk R7000. This router is quiet (unlike the Nighthawk) and it has a much better throughput at long distances. I love the features. The router is fast, we have never needed to reset it, we haven't had any connection issues. It seems to be a very stable router and we have had it for 2 months now. We are very pleased!

I traded up to see if this one would be better then the last router and come to find out it was a little tougher to set up and still didn't have the distance or power that it should of had for the price. I think that if the price is that high the router should be great not just good.

    Many Issues with this router

Quick summary: Returning for a refund ASAP Decided to purchase a high quality wireless router, researched the processor, ram, flash, etc and this router fit the bill perfectly and at 200.00 it should have done very well. 1. WAN - Not compatible out of the box with Suddenlink, finally turned off router broadcasting under IPv6 and DHCP to the WAN port was finally successful after 3 hours. 2. Wireless performance via WAN, my service is a 40M down service, this router managed to get me 5-8M down via the MAC on wireless, less than 5 feet away on the 5mhz signal. Old cheap netgear 4300 it was replacing was 35 down. 3. LAN Wired - My home is wired RJ45 throughout, so my PS4 is hardwired, could not get an IP Address via DHCP. Plugged my MAC directly into the Lan port of the router and no DCHP. Connection light was on. LAN never worked, so no performance numbers. 4. Irritations such as the WebUI popping up when I logged into the wireless on the MAC, every time, it would force on top of all windows. useless and irritating. 5. I would not recommend to my worst enemy. 6. No way of modifying the MTU size of the WAN via the WebUI, unless you are PPPoE, you can SSH to the unit and run the ifconfig to set the MTU but it resets on reboot. I did this to test connection rates to the WAN, making it 1400 increased the download speeds from 5 to 8. Wow... I guess I just got a bad unit, not sure how QC passed this unit. At any rate, I went to invest in a nice router and was very disappointed so I will be returning it and trying my had at an Apple Airport Extreme, I just want my network to simply work with out much maintenance. Hopefully Best Buy will stand behind this terrible product and let me trade for an Apple.
