A big disappointment

I live in a small 1200 sq.ft. apartment and I was using the "satellites" as bridges to wired switches in my TV racks. I have a 400 mbps connection, 20 mpbs upload. Going thru the original Spectrum router I can reach 470 mbps. With this Asus system, barely 300 mpbs, sometimes between 200 and mbps. I was really disappointed. I'm an IT Pro and I use Wi-Fi since the first Linksys 11 Mbps AP was released... so I tweaked all the settings available and the performance remained bad.

We would recommend that you try changing the channel bandwidth of each band of 2.4 GHz to 20 MHz, and for 5GHz please select 60MHz. Test each of the channels first for improved stability. You can also do the speed test for each. Don't attempt to install on your own. It requires experience with local wifi providers such as Fios to be successful. Geek Squad installation is great to get this up and running quickly

I had a Netgear Orbi AC3000 but wanted more bandwidth for devices and a Wifi 6 for my laptop. The Orbi was getting about 240-300 Mbps. I installed this and instantly my speed fell to about 140-150 Mbps. The setup is ok (very easy) but the backhaul that connects the units takes up alot on a channel. I think this is what causes the speed reduction. Anyway, I have worked with Asus routers in the past so I fiddled around, looked up fixes, etc. After a few days of fiddling I returned it and bought a new Orbi AX.

Worked on everything but work

Yes it’s an older version of amplifi, but it gave me 330 mbps down on fiber internet. Considering I get 80-90 on the amplifi, beyond happy. Until I logged in to run a work report. My VPN wouldn’t connect. No setting or changes would resolve. Total bummer since everything in my home connected fine, personal pc, amazon devices, Ps5, google devices. No work computer. That’s an issue I obviously can’t live with. I will be returning it this week and giving another unit a shot. If you don’t have work vpn issues, I would highly recommend. I just can’t get it to personally fit my needs.

Asus Mesh Router System

They work excellent!!! Service is amazing no matter the walls inbetween no buffering or low connections!! Always working awesomely!!! Highly recommend this mesh router system!!!! Go get it you won't regret it so worth every penny!!! Also has an app for it which is super great!!

Throughput is surprisingly poor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace my Google Wifi mesh system, which is now almost 3 years old, and I'm getting occasional wifi drops. I have one remote hardwired, and one connected via mesh. With Google wifi, the mesh unit had pings well below 20ms, and throughput of about 110Mbps when a laptop was connected via ethernet. With the Asus, the mesh unit was giving pings closer to 100ms, and speeds around 60Mbps. Moreover, it would drop connections more frequently - every few minutes - vs. the Google Wifi, which would drop maybe once or twice a day. Wireless performance through the wired remote unit was also slower than Google Wifi; that maxed out at around 120 Mbps standing right next to it, vs. close to 400 Mbps with Google Wifi. Obviously, the Asus is going back.
