The connections are silver and the cords themselves are very thick/sturdy. I'm using these cords for my Xbox input into my tv. I couldn't really tell any difference in sound/picture while playing xbox games or watching videos from Xbox app over the standard cheap cables. Maybe listening to music the sound would be a noticeable improvement.

Sound quality is, in fact, one of the most noticeable differences you will find when comparing different HDMI cables and the Carbon is a great choice if you are looking for exceptional sound quality.
