||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The battery stopped working after 2 month of use, I suspected this was manufactured a while ago and the battery is seal inside making this a bad purchase on my end. Now it just sits on my office.

Fell short of expectations
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me tell you what few have actually come out and said. Save your money! This thing is expensive and really does very little. It was novel for the first 5 minutes but my 11 year old quickly lost interest. There are far better ways to spend your money.

Just ok
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My son played with it for less than 5 hrs total time and stop playing with it. I think this is good for children 6 and below. It would be nice if this thing can do other things like maybe having a camera and some light effects.

A Rough Start
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a 47 year old woman and my husband got him for me. First let me start with: If you have too deep of pile of rug he will not work. Con: The BB-8 does not come with great instructions. You must have Wi-Fi and it must be a strong signal where you plan to use it. I can only sit in my PC room and I send him on his way from there. He does not project a hologram from his body, it is more of a recording you see on the phone or tablet screen. On his charger you may have to spin him around a bit until you see the light blink Pros: He is very durable. Good thing since my dogs like to chase him. Once you get him up and running it all seems to be smooth after that. Fairly easy to control. It is pretty cool. Worth the money.

Meh, it's cool but
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're a Star Wars uber-fan you will love this device. It is fun, it works well and is good on any surface. But if you're not, you'll lose interest fast. It really doesn't do much and the novelty wears off quick.

Good for kids.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was not impressed. It kept hitting everything, instead of avoiding it and would hit the same thing multiple times. I thought it would break, but it is a durable little bot.

Very Fun Toy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.OK, I was at Hobby Town in Concord picking up another RC car for my son and the staff were playing with this toy. So, I purchased it knowing it would be sold out in days if I didn't. My son was so excited when he saw it. He took it out and charged it and then we both set it up. Set up was very easy. It took us 10 minutes to get use to the controls but once we did, it has been great. Its fairly easy to operate, rolls well on carpet and operates from a good distance and around corners. We programed several messages, allowed it to patrol and worked other functions. I'm going to pick another one up so we may have races and send each other messages. This is a Very Fun Toy and for any Star Wars fan, you will love it!

Read for Real Critical Adult Review
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After playing with BB8 for a while, I believe this toy is definitely more geared towards adults of mature young children (12 and up?). The price point is spot on as it is quite sophisticated. The app allows you to do many things. You can free-drive it, put it on auto-patrol, put on voice recognition and tell it set commands, and even control how fast you'd like it to go at most. The patrol has some cool features on the screen such as internal temp., gyro stability, accelerator tracking, and mapping. Because it operates via blue-tooth, the range from the phone or Ipad is excellent. You don't have to do any real initial set-up to configure anything- just hold your device up to it. I also believe you can sync several devices to it or set it to pick-up only one. The charging base has to be plugged into your computer or anywhere a USB attaches to charge. It is powered by a Lithium battery, so the life is very nice and you never have to change it (unlike the Target one). The size of the actual BB8 is only about 4 inches tall with the ball base being about 3 inches in diameter. It's weight is about 3 lbs. and is put together quite solidly as it can take running into things and is even water resistant. It moved much better on hard, smooth surfaces (not sure about carpet) and should definitely not be taken outside! The handling is really, really nice. It stops very quickly when you let off the gas and can make turns very nicely when in motion. The packaging it comes in is very sleek and resembles that of an expensive Apple product or cell phone (so save it). It doesn't rock back and forth like the Target model, but does not make sounds out of the BB8 itself. That would be my only potential negative is the size (though definitely not a deal-breaker) and that the droid doesn't produce its own sounds (they are done through the device with the app). Overall, I am glad I bought this and don't think it'll be a fad.
