Doesn't do too much for $150

Bought for 13 year old. Played with for the first couple of days, been sitting on the shelf ever since. More of a novelty than anything else.

Not very good as a RC device. It doesn't have anywhere near the other Sphero devices have. Realistic looking, but not very user friendly.

Would be a good idea if more work could be put into it. Runs around aimlessly and steers horribly. Kind of a pointless toy.

    Fun and Innovative Toy

I picked up this App-Enabled BB-8 earlier this morning and I do like playing with it. If you can afford the $150 then it's worth considering, assuming they're not sold out by the time you are reading this review. The movement is smooth and well implemented. So far I've only tried it on carpet, it seems to work well there. Presumably it would be even quicker on a hard smooth surface like a hardwood floor. There is a "speed boost" mode that you can enable. Because it is not a flying toy, I seem to get much more runtime than a toy quadcopter. The app has some Star Wars music and is well done overall. There are some minor drawbacks which is why I only gave it 4 stars. Here are the drawbacks: * Price. $150 is a lot of money for a toy. The regular sphero does not have a head but comes with a few things that the BB-8 lacks. The regular sphero costs less. * The is not a printed manual. I really wish they would have included one. I had to look up on the website to find out some of the info. * If you run on carpet the top part (the head) can pick up lint particles. These can be cleaned off similar to how old computer mice wheels needed to be cleaned. * So far, the explore mode is not as "smart" as I would have liked. I need to experiment with this a bit more.

Does not respond well on app and would not work with Force Band. BB 8 would basically go on its own, run into the wall and his head would fall off. I was disappointed with this item and had to return both BB 8 and the Force Band. Perhaps more work needs to be done to ensure the droid will respond as it should.

This is a bargain for $150. I'm a Star Wars fan as well as a rc car and drones fan. This toy hits people of all ages and is awesome to let him just go around and explore. Controlling him is easy and super fast on hard floors. Can move on low plush rugs fine. It does everything it says it does on www.sphero.com. It really is unbelievable and cute. Great toy for all ages and just as a display item.

I am an old school geek. Star Wars is like air to me. I had all the cool figures and toys when I was a boy, and remember seeing the films in theaters. I thought, foolishly, that toys would never get better than the AT-AT play set from Kenner that I got for Christmas. I was wrong. BB-8 is my new favorite Star Wars toy of all time. First of all, it has heft. It isn't some little plastic racquetball. It has the size and weight of a cueball. Second, it has personality. It isn't a little robot that waddles around going "beep boop." Like its predecessor, R2-D2, has movements and sounds that give it a more amiable quality of character. Third, the UI is really cool. And, since it's an app, the firmware and controls are easily updatable, unlike many hardware controllers on the shelves. While I do realize that the $150 price tag is somewhat offputting, you are getting quality that is both portable and updatable. Tips: Give it a full three hour charge before your first activation. You'll know when it's done charging because the blue light on the base stops flashing. Also, make sure to update the firmware. Finally, talk to it. The more you interact with it, the more quickly it will respond to your commands.

This product lasted less than 6 months. For some odd reason it no longer responds to the app that is required for working. The manufacturer is aware but, all efforts seem to be a waste of time. Would love to return it due to a manufacturer recall.

This is one cool droid. Once you master him he is tons of fun! Things to note: although BB-8 lights up, he does NOT make sounds (the sounds come from your iPhone as you control him) - this does not take away from the fun however. A charge lasts a long time and did I mention my cat goes absolutely bonkers (keeps swiping at his magnetic head and knowing it off)! It is pricey, yes, but look at it as a collectible that you can actually play with (even if you are a grown man) LOL.

Bought with Amazon fire for kids and the BB8 app is not on the Amazon Fire for kids. (Even though I was told by the salesperson it did.). You can use another app to control it, but not as cool as bb8 app. Kid lost interest fast.

I love this droid. Brought this for my daughter as a Christmas present and she loves it. It is easy to use. The app is great. You must keep bb8 clean from the carpet or wooden floors so that the rolling droid head can function properly

The BB8 is a neat little robot! It looks and acts like a tiny version of the one in the new Star Wars movie. the app is pretty easy to use once you get the hang of it. It can be a challenge to make the robot go exactly where you want, but it is a toy, and driving it around is a lot of fun. Lots of added functions in the app, too. It is a bit small, but that is not a problem.
