Got this for my son for Christmas. He is a young RC/drone/robotics enthusiast as well as huge Star Wars fan. Works very well on the hard wood floors, he likes to put it in "patrol mode". Plays with it all the time. That's a big compliment from him considering he got it three or so weeks ago.

The BB-8 is destined to be the new R2-D2 and this little toy represents how far Star Wars toys have come since the movies first came out. Controlling the movements of BB-8 from the app is easy and allows a device that nearly everyone has today, to control this remote controlled joy.

We love love love love love BB8 and EVERYTHING he does! All the pets are totally jealous! What more can I say! Carry on BB8 and Sphero! May the force be with you!

Very cute little toy, pretty easy to set up and play with. But it is pretty small, and there is a learning curve, so it's probably best for older kids.

I have to agree with the other reviewer on here, this toy is way to hyped up for what it really does. I "played" with mine for 15 minutes before getting bored and in that time all it did was bump into stuff, the head popped off 3 times, and I discovered that the hologram function is really a joke. I am returning this tomorrow.

This was an impulse buy while strolling the store so I did not see previous pictures for size comparison. I was quite shocked when i took it out of the box and the bb8 does not reach even HALF the height of the box. Lets start with pros -You can control a ball to roll around. I imagine it took a lot of engineering to do that. -It's durable. It's a plastic ball. Fairly hard to break. .....unfortunately that's about it. Cons -The bb8 itself has no sound function. All sounds will come from your phone/tab -bb8 itself has no voice recognition. You have to talk to the phone which transmits motion the the bobbing head. -The "holograph" function is just a silly app video. bb8 does NOT project anything. -BB8 cannot roll on regular carpet. EVEN VERY VERY short area rug will reduce his speed to barely moving... if at all. He will also occasionally get stuck in tile grooves. -His head constantly falls off. If working on wood floor, it's actually quite strong. The problem is that when he is supposed to move and can't move (ie carpet, tile grooves, bumping into wall, a shoe, people touching him). That causes the head "magnet" to no longer be on top and it will fly off. It won't break. You just have to pick it up and put it back on. Overall- this is a VERY VERY expensive remote control ball that doesn't really go, and with a button that makes the head bob up and down or spin side to side. The sounds coming from the phone and talking to the phone completely takes away the magic of interaction. I'm VERY surprised it had such good rating.

Surely Wolf-Rider isn't going to use it himself... Surely this won't remain on my shelf of treasured items and be controlled by my hand and my hand alone. Wolf-Rider will surely let other people play with it...surely...

Definitely a fun toy for the kids but be aware it doesnt really work on carpets

Saw this and just had to have it! He is just as cute running around the house as he is in the movie. He'll even torture your dogs at command. I'm really liking then interactiveness. Great for all ages.

This is a fun app-controlled toy for both kids and adults. You can use the app to control his movements and also give it basic commands (for example, go patrol, go to sleep, look around). One thing you have to be careful about it is that it goes fast (although you can control the acceleration) and, I made the mistake of hitting a desk too fast and one of the antennas broke off. Worse comes to worse, you can always order another head if you lose it.

I had high hopes for this robot I purchased for my son as a Christmas gift. When it came I was impressed by the packaging, very nice. I charged everything up ahead of time so it would be ready to go Christmas morning. He opened it up and it required over an hour to download the app and update the app. Still can't get the Force Band to work with it. He has to use his iPad and it does not work well on a very low carpet. The antenae broke the next day while he was trying to get the force band to work with the robot and simply bumped into a wall. I understand that it is just for looks but it still broke and you can't fix it but you can buy another head for $15. It will make a nice paper weight because it has some heft to it It does not work like those in the commercial, very disappointed. Don't be fooled like I was.

This thing is very cool. Works well with the app and my son has a blast with it.

If you love Star Wars and into technology, this is a great item to have! It takes time to be an expert to control but it is great

Love BB8! Makes for a fun time and a great conversation starter. Kids love it too!

Good Droid toy but not the best yet The head is pop out of the body every time that Droid hit the wall or something else

If you love BB8, you will love this! It's smaller then I pictured in my head, but adds to the cuteness! Takes a little time getting used to controlling him, especially with the force band, but has a lot of built in commands in the app! Haven't figured out how to voice command, but he's definitely fun!
