Meh.... it could be better
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not great. I have tinnitus and need noise to mask the ringing before I can sleep. They weren't real comfortable. They didn't do a great job. Took them back because I couldn't justify the price if they didn't perform well

Great
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased these for my husband and he loves them. They took a little time to adjust to but hes been wearing they everynight in replace of his foam earplugs. The app can be a little fussy but it eventually works.

Change my mind
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received these as a gift and returned them as I was afraid of getting ear infections. I really can't say they work or not because I didn't give them a try.

Sleep Like A Baby
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a light sleeper so these are the perfect solution for me. The pre-loaded and downloadable "white" noises are calming and the volume can be adjusted. I can sleep on my side and the buds are not uncomfortable in my ears.

Helpful, but too expensive and limited for most
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THE GOOD -Comfortable and lightweight ( subjective ) -Battery lasts all night -Storage case recharges buds -Decent job blocking noise THE BAD -Prohibitively expensive -No streaming capabilities -No custom sound profiles or music -No active sound cancellation -Static noise at low volume levels -No storage consideration for extra ear tips -Loading sound profiles to buds is slow -Requires leaving phone in active mode overnight ( Android ) -Limited Bluetooth range -No integration with phone OS for alarms THE TL-DR The Sleepbuds II are an expensive pair of earbuds that don't stream music, don't offer active noise cancellation, can't use custom sounds or music, and cause your phone battery to drain faster than usual. For most people, these are too expensive for very little benefit compared to other noise masking sleep aids. But if you suffer from bad tinnitus, or regularly have to sleep in noisy environments, these might be great for you. THE DETAILS To understand what the Sleepbuds are, it's important to know what they are not. These are not earbuds for listening to music or other audio from your phone. They can't stream any audio at all. This is because they need to be as small as possible to be comfortable when sleeping, which greatly limits battery size. To make the tiny battery last all night, instead of 3-4 hours like most wireless earbuds, the Sleepbuds instead store sound tracks on their own internal storage which they play while you sleep. Instead of regular Bluetooth Classic, they use the Bluetooth Low Energy protocol to communicate with the Bose control app on your phone, which saves battery. They also don't have any form of active noise cancelling in the traditional sense, again to save on processing power and thus battery life. Instead, Bose offers about 30 different sound profiles for the buds ( with more promised in future app updates ), which Bose claims were developed specifically to mask and cancel noise and sounds that commonly keep people awake. Combined with the passive sound blocking of the buds resting in your ear canals, they do a pretty decent job of blocking noise like a snoring spouse or heavy traffic on a busy street. The Sleepbuds come with three different ear tip pairs ( small, medium, large ). I found them quite soft and flexible and reasonably comfortable. When not in use, the Sleepbuds can be stored in a slip top case, which is also a mobile battery bank for charging the buds ( Bose claims it can charge them three times, though I only got two ). The case uses strong magnets to hold the buds in place while charging and the case itself charges over a USB-C connection. There is no room in the case to store the extra ear tips, however. The mobile app controls which sound profile the Sleepbuds play and for how long ( from one hour to all night ) but you can't make any kind of playlist or sound profile rotation. The profiles are separated into three categories: Noise Masking ( white noise, static ), Naturescapes ( ocean surf, rain fall ), and Tranquilities ( simple, trance-like music ). You can't use any custom sounds or load your own music onto the Sleepbuds. There's space to store about 10 profiles at a time and managing that storage is not easy. You can listen to all available sounds in the profile library on your phone first, and if you like it, you can send it to the Sleepbuds. If there's storage room available, the app will transfer that profile over Bluetooth, which takes about three minutes. If there's not enough room, the app will notify you and let you select which profiles on the buds you'd like to remove. After freeing space, it will transfer the sound profile. This has to be done one at a time and the buds have to be turned on, so expect first-time setup to take 30-60 minutes or more. It would be much better if the app allowed you to add, remove, and reorder the sound profiles in something like a playlist and then commit that change all at once to the buds, especially if you could do it while the buds are charging. The app can also set alarms ( app-specific alarms, it won't import alarms you've already created on the system clock ) and allow notification alert sounds to play through the Sleepbuds. However using these features comes as an extra battery drain on your phone, at least for Android. Android OS uses a system called Doze that limits how active apps can be when the phone is in standby ( screen off, not on a charger ). The Bose app needs a Doze exception in order to run normally so it can stay active all night. You can deny the Doze request, but the app will re-ask every time you launch it. Also, since the Sleepbuds use Bluetooth LE, the workable range between them and your phone is typically limited to the same room. If you already charge your phone every night on your bedside table, neither of these are a big deal. The app does have a "phone-free" mode which sets the buds to start playing a default profile the instant they're turned on, but this disables play duration, alarm, and alert settings. But how effective are the Sleepbuds in normal use? The answer is subjective. As mentioned, I found them fairly comfortable, but I know some people can't stand to sleep with things in their ears, regardless of size. And despite their tiny size, I could tell they pushed my ears out ever so slightly. Turning my head from one side to the other felt like my ears were almost catching enough on my pillow that they would fold backward if I wasn't careful. I sleep predominantly on my side and didn't have a problem with them falling out or hurting my ears, though it can take a few nights sleep to get used to them. I liked the rain Naturescapes best, though I did notice significant static in the sound at low volumes, regardless of what sound profile was playing. The real question comes down to cost vs performance, and everyone will have their own answer. For myself, the Sleepbuds don't make a huge difference in my sleep quality. Sure, they help some nights when things are noisier than usual or my spouse snores more than normal, but in general it isn't a big enough improvement that I would consider it worth the expense. My spouse tried them and says they help a noticeable amount. You owe it to yourself to ask if maybe sleep sound machines or custom molded ear plugs would work just as well for you at a lower expense. Would I recommend these to others? No, not as a general rule if they haven't tried other sleep aids first. It's too expensive and too niche a product to expect it to work well for most people. The limited playback features ( no custom sound tracks, no sound profile playlists or rotations during sleep ) and clunky sound profile loading are big downsides. However, the Sleepbuds might be a great option for people with tinnitus problems, frequent travelers, and those regularly sleeping in very noisy environments. I have mild tinnitus, which manifests as a constant low-level high-pitched buzz. In very quiet environments, it can become distracting. Using the Sleepbuds masks the ringing almost completely. For whatever reason my tinnitus rarely, if ever, keeps me awake, but those with more severe cases may benefit greatly. Same for those that need to catch a nap on a noisy airliner, or spend most nights in different hotels with different sounds they're not accustomed to, and the Sleepbuds are very easy to pack along. Or perhaps you're a trucker spending noisy nights in your cab at a truck stop off the interstate and you need a good sleep to stay awake on the road the next day. For the right people, the Sleepbuds may be a godsend, but for most people I'd say don't expect them to bring you miracles.

Posted .Hello Jaron, thanks so much for leaving your thoughts on the new Sleepbuds II.
The Sleepbuds are not designed to be used as traditional headphones. In order to achieve a form factor small enough to be comfortable for sleeping and accommodate a battery that can support sound playback for an entire night, we made the conscious design decision not to stream audio to Sleepbuds. Instead, the sound files are stored on each of the earbuds and played back locally, dramatically extending the audio playback time achievable in this tiny form factor. In terms of the sounds on the buds, did you know that our app has a 40 track library with sounds specifically designed to help you to fall asleep and stay asleep? And better yet, this is just the beginning. Watch this space for more to come! Included in our app is the ability to add your own alarms that will play through the buds when you want them to, allowing you to get the perfect night's sleep and wake up on time.
Our Sleepbuds II also features our new StayHear Max tips specifically designed to create a seal in the ear and block out unwanted noise. This coincided with the tracks above will help to prevent any sound disturbing you from sleeping. The other awesome thing about our new tips, is there are 3 different sizes in the box, which will allow you to find the perfect fit, eliminating the need to store extra sizes.
When you don't want to use your phone in the evening, we have solved this for you with our 'Phone free mode' available for both Android and IOS. Find out how to use this here https://bit.ly/2HVlM8k. You should not be getting static when using the buds, and we can resolve this with the quick and easy steps here https://bose.life/3lhWCig.

Great product, works well
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Designed perfectly for sleep. All the little initial worries, i.e. not full noise canceling and only sounds through app, were necessary to produce something so light weight and comfortable. Works better than I imagined they could.

Good for those that need to block out noise
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having had the first generation of Sleep Buds for a couple years I'll share a few comparisons and highlight the good and the not so good with the Sleep Buds 2. First, right off the bat you'll notice that there's not too much different in terms of the feel and design of the sleep buds. The buds for me do rest more comfortably in my ears at night than the first version did. Having tried them for a bit over a week I can say that I definitely like them but also have some dislikes for them along with some big things I really wish BOSE would have addressed in Version 2! The good: Comfort - Definitely more comfortable and they do sit in your ear in a way they are hardly noticeable. The new material to me was as they said being more comfortable. Battery Life - Yes! They deliver in this area lasting a full night for each night that I have used them so far. Time will tell how well they hold up over time but so far so good. Ease of Use- First time, charge em up, pair them, update them and off you go. You'll want to do that well before bedtime though as charging and updating them along with setting your preference up takes a bit of time. USB-C- This is a welcomed change so they use the same charger as a number of phones but no USB-A AC adapter.. and a LOT of devices are starting to not come with one (just like these don't) so keep that in mind. A lot of people have extras laying around but surprisingly I did not have any extras when I went to charge these and had to use my computer. What could be better: Wireless Charging - I do wish the case charged wirelessly and had an EXTERNAL indicator that it was charging and what the battery levels are (you have to open the case to see the charge status). Improved User Experience - I really was hoping Version 2 would enable you to set them up with your settings (preferred sound and alarm) and be able to put them in without even touching your phone! One of the things I disliked the MOST about the first ones was having to grab my phone to set alarms and start the sounds to go to sleep. Doing so almost always lead to checking notifications, and work email which yes could be controlled by just ignoring it but is also one reason I'm starting to leave my phone anywhere in the room except near my bed! Sound quality - I was really hoping for some improvement in this area.. and BOSE didn't seem to innovate here for being such a premium product.. aside to masking noise (which these definitely are good at .. like if you have a partner that snores a lot or you sleep in noisy hotels a lot) the sounds really are the only other feature it has going for it different than just having a good pair of ear plugs and a super loud alarm or timed lighting to wake you up. Some of the sound files sound digital or like certain frequencies are cut off or they are at a low bitrate almost so much so that it's distracting to even listen to. Granted, these are not designed for music or high quality streaming audio (which I don't want anyway) but I think Bose should have focused more on this in this version. On the positive side, there are some that I like still but there are a number of them I don't like at all too. if you like "white noise" these will be great.. but if you like nature sounds, waterfalls or the oceans and don't need the noise masking your Google/Amazon Smart speaker can probably do a better job in this area. In all, I'd recommend the Bose Sleep Buds 2 if you're someone who needs the noise masking but mileage may vary in terms of how well they will meet your personal preferences beyond that, like for the sound quality of the sound clips that are uploaded. If you travel a lot and have a hard time sleeping in a noisy hotel or having a partner that snores so loud it keeps you up most nights these are very much most definitely worth a try as Bose did take steps to improve comfort and improve battery life which was very evident in using these for a little more than a week, but beyond that I am not sure I would recommend them if you don't have that specific need to mask external noises or are just looking for "nature sounds".. as there might be better options for that.

Disappointed their Not Noise Cancelling
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think Bose could've done way better. I love Bose products but these Sleepbuds would have been 10 Stars if they added the noise cancelling feature. These buds only masked sound by adding sounds like ocean waves breaking on the beach or night sounds. I need total silence to sleep, so the sleep buds didn't work. Now, if they had added noise cancelling to the Bose Sleep Buds ii than I would've kept them. So, Bose! Let's add the Noise Cancelling feature that everyone knows your famous for!!!

Thanks for your support for Bose products! I can understand your point, however, there's some clear reasons why we use noise-masking instead of noise-cancelling. You can read about it here - https://bose.life/3smxWt1.

Loud Snoring is Not Drowned Out!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really looking forward to trying these sleepbuds to help drown out my husband's earth shattering snoring noise. It didn't even begin to drown out the snoring, even on full volume! There is a nice selection of white noise and tranquil sounds to download, though you can't listen to anything other than the sounds from the Bose app. I wouldn't recommend these sleepbuds if you want to drown out really loud noise. On the plus side, if you are trying to drown out more mellow sounds, I would recommend them. They are high quality, have 2 different size caps for small or larger ear canals, are easy to charge and they are comfortable.

||Posted .
