Great scanner for portability
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Scanner is an incredibly compact scanner! Pro’s: it is portable Can be used for travel Includes software needed for ocr and batch scanning jobs. Scans both sides in 1 pass which saves time. Can be powered by the usb port on your laptop/desktop Con’s: as others have mentioned the lack of modern usb 3.0 cable is not acceptable given the price point. You can get an all in one with similar or better features for the money. Durability is questionable as it seems flimsy. Uses: again I travel so going to various sites allows me to scan all my documents and receipts easier than my previous solution which was my phone. Alternatively it takes up little space on your desk if you are getting for home office. I would definetly buy/recommend because of the size mostly. This device allows me to remain paperless on the road.

Great Scanner
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a great little scanner! And by little, I mean it literally. It weighs only about 3 pounds! Making it light and portable, and perfect for work or personal use, or both. This scanner can scan both sides of a sheet at one time, comes equipped with a dedicated ID card holder useful for scanning credit cards or business cards, and comes with the Nuance Power PDF software (which I will expand on later). For years, I’ve been meaning to scan 100’s of business cards I have been collecting over the years, but I never had a convenient way to do so. This scanned allowed me to scan them all effortlessly at a rate of about 25 per minute. I also plan on scanning all my utility bills that I keep as paper copies of so I can free up storage at home. One of the greatest features of this scanner is that it comes with Nuance Power PDF software. This software allows users to edit scanned documents, and arrange the pages as necessary. It also enables users to convert PDFs or scanned documents into editable formats. Super useful when you don’t have the original document at your disposal. Overall, this scanner will help me free up some storage at home, and I will likely get one for work use as I am a small business owner and the utility is endless.

Very Nice Little Scanner
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Of the two scanners I have at home this has become my go to scanner. Why? It is compact, efficient, and delivers a very nice scan for me. A couple of things which may or may not work for everybody are, this is a USB only connection, no included set up software, and no USB normally included. I did however receive the proper cable for testing purposes, but for me this would be a deal breaker, and absolutely should be included. Especially since it requires a USB 3.0 micro cable which is not one that most people have lying around. You do have to go online to download the software, and the download instructions are included with the unit. One issue I had, which was very strange. I was having trouble installing the software, I kept getting a message that it could not be installed. After several attempts I finally gave up, and shut the window. Then, there was the software on my desktop, so I'm not certain what the issue was, but the software did install even though I kept getting a message that it did not. Not really sure what was going on there. But something to be aware if you are getting an install error. Now, as for the software, it is very easy to set up and use. I was able to start scanning and sending the documents to the folders I needed easily. The huge plus for me is the business card scanning slot. I am a Property Inspector and gather a lot of business cards throughout the course of my travels. With the ADS-1200 it makes keeping and sorting them a snap. I have thrown away my big binder and now have every one of the cards Ive collected in one convenient folder. And yes, the ADS-1200 will scan both sides of the cards, nice! I am in the process of scanning all my work documents and will soon store everything on a large USB thumb drive and a portable hard drive. So far I'm very pleased with this scanner and will continue to use it daily. I would recommend it if, you don't need wireless connectivity, you don't mind purchasing a seperate USB cable, and you don't mind the fact that you will need to go online to get the needed software. For me these were non issues, for others it may be an issue. So I'm giving it 5 stars and a high recommendation.

Portable Productivity that's almost perfect.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pro: portable USB charging can scan to a USB drive business card slot Con no wifi no USB cable included If portability is what you're looking for, the Brother ads-1200 is a great option. It's very lightweight and easy to carry along in a backpack or attache. The ability to charge via USB will be a big help on the road. It will scan to a USB drive and it has a business card scan slot. It also performs 2 sided scans in one pass which is a great feature and not that common in a portable scanner. While I've listed no wifi as a con it is not something you need to make use of this scanner. Just use a USB drive and plug the device in when you get back to the house or office. Even though I don't personally require the WIFi. I know others do and that is why I'm dropping a star. It also comes with Nuance Power PDF and Nuance PaperPort 14 SE software. The software is useful for organizing your scans.

Outstanding sheet-feed scanner
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been working with this scanner for about a week, and I have to say that, if you need a convenient, sheet-feed scanner, you will not likely do better than the Brother ADS-1200. It does two things well that matter to me. Sheets are drawn through the scanner very quickly. Have a 10 or 20 page document to scan? It’s done in seconds. Even more useful, the scanner can scan both sides of a two-sided page on one pass. How convenient is that? Super-convenient, in my book, as having to make two passes of a two-sided document through the scanner has been the bane of my existence. This feature right there makes it worth the purchase price. The scanner easily handles stiffer stock, such as postcards or anything on cardstock up to 8.5 inches in width. It will scan business cards with no problem. It takes up a very small amount of space as well, which makes it convenient to keep right next to my computer monitor. The ADS-1200 connects only by USB. It is not wireless. It has both USB 2 and USB 3 ports, and you will need to provide your own cable. Like most computer hardware products these days, the only documentation included in the box is a short, “Quick Set-Up” guide that gets you plugged in and downloading software. The actual software to run the scanner is downloaded from the Brother site. Installation was quick and easy, and I was scanning within about five minutes of opening the box. The ADS-1200 is highly recommended.

Good Feeder Scanner
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whats in the box ---------------- AC adapter Brother ADS-1200 Compact Desktop Scanner Nuance Power PDF, Nuance PaperPort 14 SE (free download) Product Registration Sheet Quick Setup Guide Warranty Sheet Pros ---- Direct scanning to USB without needing computer Very Compact and Quiet unlike your flatbed scanner 25 documents per minute which is a good speed Scans not only document but also receipts! Love this feature Can be powered by USB cable Cons ---- No Wifi The Review ---------- Summary - I think its a good portable scanner and it is a feeder scanner and it can take in 25 pages per minute. Its a very good alternative to your All-in-one scanner which includes the flat bed scanner. So if you are buying an expensive all-in-one, you can get this scanner and a cheaper printer. First thing i want to mention is that this is similar to your tabletop scanner or your all-in-ones you have at home which has a scanner built in, BUT, this is portable and it is a feeder type of scanner with a dedicated plastic card scanner. As one of the reviewer mentioned, it does not come with USB cable, however, the box clearly states that it is not included in it. So, i am OK with that. However, its important to note that its a USB 3.0 cable Setup - Straight forward. You will need to follow the quick start guide booklet and download software from the brother website for you to use this device. Usage - Its a simple device, once the software is installed and the device is connected to the computer, its as easy as feeding the documents into the scanner. The scanner is capable of scanning double sides (IN A SINGLE PASS) which is a great feature for time saving. You can save the documents to a USB device (This will not require you to install software) or a local computer or directly to cloud such as Google Cloud, Dropbox or One Drive. It also has a dedicated slot for scanning plastic card like your driver license or your business cards. You can save the files as a PDF ,JPG etc and these two are the most commonly used file formats. i was able to scan color documents and they came out to be of good quality and clear.

Long set upset due to updates
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fairly lightweight and easy to travel with scanner but does take up noticeable physical space in your suitcase, laptop backpack or briefcase. But the weight is light so a plus for that as well as to the overall build quality. The setup is easy but lengthy due to the number of updates but after that my Windows 7 laptop had no issues. The duplex feature, document feeder and dedicated card size scanning slot are all pluses and worked for me fairly fast and no issues in usage. The included software also was a nice bonus and very, very functional.

Excellent scanner for forms and contracts
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife runs a home business and we recently moved, so you can imagine the amount of paperwork that needs to be scanned in, correlated, converted to PDF, etc. This scanner was easy to set up and use, the menu is intuitive and it is small enough that we didn't have to build a shelf or buy a new desk to have it nearby. If you are scanning loose paper into longer documents or work with contracts and invoices, this is a great choice.

Tiny footprint, lightning quick scanning
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While I have a multi-function flatbed scanner/printer/fax combo from the same company, it's on the other side of the room from my main PC, due to the fact that the warm up on the laser module tends to trip the breaker when it's on the same circuit as my PC. This makes scanning multiple page documents a right pain, as I have to set down the paper, go back to the computer to click prescan, select the area to scan (after reseating the paper if it ended up crooked), finalize the scan, go back to the printer to flip the page, then back to the PC. After setting up this little puppy, scanning in pages is almost too simple. Since I own and operate a small business, I found this scanner invaluable for staying on top of my finances. The included software makes it easy to scan in oddly shaped things like extra-long receipts (thanks CVS), as well as the bills for companies that still don't offer e-statements. While I wish that the scanner had wifi functionality so that I could put it somewhere else (especially considering the tiny cable that it comes with), it doesn't really need it since I'll be tied to my PC to operate the scanning software anyways, so it's not really worth deducting a star over. And there are some documents that I've had to run through a couple times since they were folded up and fed in at a slight angle, but that is definitely user error. I guess the only thing that bothers me is the included base software's inability to remove an accidentally scanned in page or even rearrange the order when doing a multi-page document. However, after scanning in the pages, it's easy enough to use the other included software package to edit. Again, not worth deducting over, just a minor annoyance. Overall, this device is a must-have for any home or home office, or even light duty in a regular office setting. The documents I've scanned are a faithful reproduction of the original, and the software itself is painless to use. PRO's: - Can be powered off USB for portable situations - Tiny footprint when not in use - Software automatically reorients pages if fed upside down - 2-sided scanning with one pass - automatic suppression of blank pages - auto page size perfect for scanning receipts CON's: - included cable very short - no wifi

Tame the Paper Monster
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In an age where so many devices do so many things (printer/copier/scanner/fax), it's refreshing to see a product that does one thing really well, and the Brother ADS-1200 is just such a product. It takes up very little space, but it packs a big punch. Scanning is quick, and you can scan to your computer or to a USB drive. The included Paperport software makes it easier to organize your scanned receipts, warranty papers, and legal documents. The small size and ability to scan to a USB drive makes this a great option for travel as well.

A Fast Scanner With Some Annoying Design Flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brother’s ADS-1200 is a document and card scanner appropriate for a small office - it is not a flatbed scanner and is not designed to scan thick or non-pliable documents. Physically, it feels solid and well-made even though it is very light. It connects to your computer by Micro USB 3.0 which can also power the scanner - there are other models with network connectivity. No USB cord is included, though . You can also scan items directly to a USB drive by powering the scanner with the included power supply. Aside from software, there is no assembly required. But the software is an odd mess. Choosing the appropriate drivers for my machine was simple enough, but the installation took an unreasonably long time (nearly 20 minutes!) - I haven’t worried about a software installation crash in years but I almost cancelled this installation because I was seeing no progress for what seemed like an eternity (then all of a sudden, it was done). Once installed, it was fairly intuitive to establish my preferences for scanner operation. But one of my preferences was not allowed - for some reason, I couldn’t use automatic document size detection with any other resolution besides 300 x 300 dpi - and it infuriated me that it would allow me to select my preferences first then would refuse to assign them once I was OK with my selections - what a ridiculous way to implement selections. The scanner feed closes around the scanner when it’s not in use to minimize the space it occupies and to protect it from dust. The feed unfolds to allow you to top-load documents. And there is a separate (switchable) feed in the front that is for scanning rigid cards (e.g. business cards, credit cards, licenses). The document feed was much faster than I expected - it is really quite impressive - the card scanner was slower but only took a couple seconds to retrieve an image of a card. Image quality was consistently good but wasn’t photo-quality (that’s what flatbed scanners are for) - but for documentation purposes, even photographs scanned very well. Document images were clear and always aligned - they could be read by OCR without flaw. My only other gripe about design is that for documents to feed-through automatically, they all need to be the same width and fed-in through the center of the scanner. So if, say, you wanted to scan in letter-sized document and then a receipt, you would need to reset the feed between the scans - you can’t just scan them back-to-back. That felt insanely fussy for a convenience product like this. So for speed and image quality, I think this is a solid office document scanner. But for software design and for a few operational decisions, I have no idea how a company as huge as Brother could have produced something so awkward (and I didn’t beta test this for 50 hours before I found problems, the first selections I made in the software wouldn’t go-through without an error and my first choice for document scanning wouldn’t feed right). Ultimately, I felt like the scanner was trying to fight me on doing some simple things MY way.

Great Little Scanner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It scans really, fast and you may do both sides of the page if you wish, it also works like a charm in Linux which was the main selling point for me. I already own a Brother Printer which I have owned for years and still works like a charm, so I hope this little guy will also lasts me a long time. I was initially going to purchase a cheaper wireless model but when I drove over the store they didn't have it in stock so I decided to go with this one, I don't regret it one bit.

Perfect for small businesses on the go
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this scanner for a little over a week and have used it quite a bit during that time frame. I have another Brother desktop scanner, that is awesome, but this is perfect for on the go. My wife and I buy, renovate and rent houses and this is perfect for meeting potential tenants to collect their information for background checks and lease signings. Instead of taking pictures with our phones or lugging our other scanner and laptops, we can simply take this scanner, power cord and a thumb drive and we can capture everything we need. We no longer need to email documents to ourselves because we can just pop out the thumb drive, plug it in our laptop and transfer the documents into a folder. The resolution is adjustable and scans very well. I especially like being able to scan business cards, driver's licenses and credit cards using the card port on the scanner. The only negative comment I can make about this product is not really with the scanner, but finding the software to download. It wasn't easy to find on Brother's website, but once I found it, I bookmarked it so that I can download it to my other devices without having to search their site for it. I didn't deduct any stars for it because its a one time problem and not really all that big of a deal in the bigger scheme of things. This is a great portable scanner. Just remember to take the power supply with you when on the go. You cant scan to thumb drive unless its connected to power, but I would rather carry the power supply than my laptop. Excellent product. I would definitely recommend this

No more paper mess
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow is an understatement. Now that I have this little jewel I’m able to clean up all papers and receipts I’ve had stored for tax season. So no more paper mess do deal with. I like how I’m able to scan my papers into a desired folder. This desktop scanner has really allowed me to organize the mess that I called a filing system. I don’t know why I hadn’t gotten one of these sooner. If you have a business or a person like me who tend to hold onto tons of papers throughout the year, this is a great way to clear the clutter.

Awesome Mobile Scanner
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After deciding a few years ago I was going totally "paperless" I needed a scanner in my life. I've also attempted the same at work and have been through a number of products to help along the way. Enter Brother's new ADS-1200 This thing is built well and feather lite, obviously meant to be carried with as an option or to take up as small a footprint on the desk as possible. I did appreciate that it can utilize power via the USB cable as well as the included AC adapter. Sheet feeding is there, but at a paltry 20 sheets reported capacity and more like 12 in practice, it leaves a little to be desired. Setup was clunky and time-consuming as others have mentioned, but that seems to be the norm these days for all peripherals, download the latest and greatest so that you can utilize it. Included scan software works fine and options are numerous and plentiful. Adjusting the scan resolution was easy and multiple file formats are available. Scans are crystal clear and easily worked with/archived. This little guy does its job well enough, and I found myself not wanting a wireless version unless I was going to manage scans on my iPad, which seems unwieldy to me so far. Build quality is great and the portability is nice, I just have a hard time justifying carrying something like this with me, over scanning apps like Scannable or OfficeLens which seem to produce decent enough results without carrying an extra peripheral. All in all, if you're looking for a portable scanner I'd recommend this one, but I'd ask the important question of do you really need one at all?
