Customers often highlight the excellent camera quality, ease of use, and reliable night vision of this indoor wireless home security system. Has a few big shortcomings. No web interface for viewing, downloading, or editing videos online. Monthly subscription cost is pricey. Canary is not a complete home security system packaged into a single device. I use it to monitor my dogs for now until the software and firmware get improved.

Works like a charm for us !

Read many reviews, good and bad, and figured unhappy customers were the ones who's technology (internet, WiFi, cell phones) were not exactly compatible with the device. We decided to try it out and simply return if it didn't work - we had nothing to lose and everything to gain, as we were considering a full security system which included a $20+ per month moniterimg fee that didn't fit into our budget. I was not expecting much since we live outside out town and have Verizon WiFi . I also looked up the product specs and although my phone was not specifically listed as a compatible phone, it was compatible Canary's parameters. We set up Canary (super easy) and it would not immediately connect with my phone. I hooked up my husband's phone and it worked right away, I then ADDED myself as a user through my husband's phone, and next thing I knew my phone was connected to Canary as well. As it turns out, it works PERFECTLY for is and we love it ! Great picture at night as well. I close my windows/blinds when I leave on a trip so no outside activity (birds, etc) unneccesarily sets it off. There is about a 20 second real-time delay, but other than that we highly recommend, at least to try.

I recently moved to New York, and as I am living in a new area, I figured it was time to get some additional home security. My favorite feature of the Canary camera is the motion detection. This way if I am not at home and the camera detects motion in my apartment, I can check to see if it is a burglar, my super, etc. I like that it was easy to set up, and looks like a speaker, not a camera. I am currently still using my one month free trial of membership, but am totally considering paying for the membership subscription and added features once my trial ends. Overall great product, would recommend to any one who is looking for a no-fuss security solution.

Great product- not perfect, but works very well.

I've been looking at the Canary since they started their Indiegogo campaign to create the product. It's a great idea- perfect for those that don't want a full-fledged security system and are intimidated by some of the do-it-yourself options. Works as advertised- nice camera, easy to set up, arms itself and deactivates when I leave/arrive, and iOS app is easy to use. It is definitely a 1.0 version - I had some stalling of the live watch feature for a day or two but that seems to have been resolved. I seem to be getting false alarms in the morning and the evening when it might be switching from night camera to day camera. Not exactly sure why it is triggering. Fairly annoying, but not a major inconvenience. It's like buying any Apple 1.0 product- very cool, but want to see added features and improvements in the 2.0 version. Would eventually love to see an add-on product- window/door sensor. I don't want a second camera, but a sensor I can put on door and/or window to trip when opened and trigger alert on the main Canary would be great. 2-way audio would be nice. But, it's a very nice, simple system. Figure out the false alarms, and I would give 5 stars. Definitely glad I purchased it, and will be first in line for their next upgrade.

I kept it for a couple of weeks and wasn't impressed. The notifications were very sporadic if I got any at all. The whole point was to get a notification if someone entered my home but when I got notifications it would be at best 15-30 minutes after someone entered. Most of the time I never received a notification. If it were tied to Apple HomeKit it would be better IMO. I have a HomeKit lock that sends notifications almost immediately so I know it's possible.

The point of having a camera is to be able to use it but this camera kept disconnecting and for that price shouldn't be an issue!

Pros - Very easy to setup. Video & Audio quality is very good. Cons - You can set it to Armed and it will send you a text when it is activated by someone walking by it. But, IT WILL ONLY RECORD FOR ONE MINUTE if there is no motion. I called tech support and they currently do not have any plans to change this. If I had to repurchase this item, I don't know if I would because of this issue. There is no real FREE plan. After seven days, you cannot download your videos. You have to pick a plan and pay for it.

    1. Alerts are not always real-time. There is a lag. 2. without subscription: No free storage at all (not even for 24 hours) there is no desktop viewing. So watching is always only on mobile phones. No integration with Google Home or Alexa to request/see on TV I don't recommend this product.

    Awesome little device!

I've been using my Canary (the black version) for about 2 months now and couldn't be happier! I was able to set it up in under 5 minutes without any issues and haven't had any problems with it since. Especially considering that my home wi-fi network seems plagued with issues that require me to fully restart my other various devices (desktop, laptop, etc.) to reestablish the wi-fi connection, I'm amazed that I've never had to anything similar with my Canary running on the same shoddy network. It just works. I'm an urban apartment dweller, so this tiny device is perfect for me. Where a full-scale, professionally-installed security system would be overkill (and probably not allowed by my lease) Canary does everything I'd want and then some. I'm also a cat owner, so it's great to be able to check in on him when I'm away for the night or a day or more. Being able to see air quality, temp and humidity info, plus watch a live, clear video stream regardless of lighting conditions is simply amazing, and I love that it can tell when I've left my apt and put itself into armed mode accordingly. I'm also an occasional traveler, so if I'm gone for a few days it's a huge weight off my shoulders to know that everything is fine at home. Did I leave the oven on? Did my air conditioner die in 100+ degree weather and turn my cat into a melted puddle of fur? Did my friend actually ever stop in and check on said cat for the week I was away? Questions that would have nagged at the back of my mind before can now be answered with a few swipes of the super easy-to-use app. Considering price, performance and ease-of-use, this device is simply everything I want and need in a home monitoring/security product. I couldn't be happier with mine and plan on buying a few more of these this year as birthday/holiday gifts for family and friends.

I just got my Canary a few weeks ago, and I have been really pleased with it so far. I have found the Canary to be very easy to use and a pleasure to interact with. Firstly, I really enjoy the design of the product itself. The slick color scheme, product design and attention to detail remind me Apple products. These design elements make the product great to use. Secondly, the app, which allows you to communicate with the Canary, is very well designed, intuitive and user-friendly. Thirdly, the functionality of the product is great. I enjoy being able to keep a look out of what is going on in my house while I am away. The picture quality is very high. The alarm is loud and effective. The product also recognizes when I am home, which I really like. Finally, my favorite feature is that the Canary stores graphs of the temperature, humidity and air quality. I really like looking at these to see the cycle of my days. One other thing that I like is that the product has the potential to improve as the AI features improve. This means that while it is a cool product now, it could be really great in a few years from now. And since the potential improvements are software improvements, this will mean the the security my version offers will improve in the coming years!

Unless you want to pay them yearly you cannot use the night mode. Even though they do not say anything about that being a “membership” bonus on the box or any other advertising. Buy this if you like lies.

    Nice camera but some limitations

Overall I am impressed with the quality of the live streaming, picture quality and ability to zoom in on live footage. The setup was super easy, only took a few minutes. My two issues are that I chose the setting to only notify me of motion when I am not here, but every-time I walk in the room my phone is going off as it senses my motion. The settings are not working properly. Two, I don's recall reading anything that you had to pay for a service. Yes there is some basic options for free but this should have been much more clear in the description. I have a security system I pay for so I really just want this when I have a dog sitter come walk my dogs. I feel there should be a way to connect the videos to your own cloud storage as I have other services where I could save any video recordings. After the 7 day trial, if the basic is not enough..I plan to return and find another camera. I have no need to pay for multiple services when I have a true security system.
