When I first bought these I was impressed with the video quality and the customer service - you could actually talk to a person on the phone! The service and customer service has dropped substantially since then - it records video maybe half the time, and you can no longer call for customer service. You can "chat", but only during limited hours. The you open a ticket they never get back to you. And to make matters worse, they've increased the cost of membership by 4x! I've invested $1,000 in this terrible product, and no I'm stuck.

Product was so easy to set up on my wifi network. The auto arm/disarm feature is really cool so I don't need to actively manage the device. But when I do, the app is super easy to use. Now and I can check in on my landlord when he makes repairs when I am at work.

The sales associate recommended this product for me and the reviews on Bestbuy website were great. However, the ratings for the android app were not so flattering. It turned out those ratings for the app were right; I had a nightmare setting this camera up. The android app would crush every time I tried to set up the wifi connection. I ended up returning this camera though I really liked the sleek design and hardware specifications.

Awesome device that lets me check in on my home. I travel a lot for work and it's always nice to check in to see that things are uneventful when I am away. Great that Canary does not charge me any monthly fees since my travel schedule is super flexible.

Love my Canary. After some hick-ups on set up it's working fantastic. Great image and love the real alerts... not like drop cam that alerted me everytime time the AC unit came on. Upgrades coming soon should put this product out ahead of the rest.

Not happy and Best Buy should stop stocking and selling this product! I am not satisfied with this product at all! There are definitely better products on the product for a similar price, or acceptable products on the market for a lower price. My first item was defective and had to return it, and my second device still does not work very well. The WIFI aspect of the unit does not work, and after several hours on WIFI the unit goes offline...therefore I have to keep it plugged into Ethernet, so I am limited as to where I can place the device. Additionally, the device is terrible at recognizing when I leave and arrive home, forcing me to be constantly manually changing between home and away mode throughout the day. Even those these 2 things made me very disappointed with the product, I still liked the fact that it provided me with security of knowing what is going on at home...until now. Canary recently updated their 'plan' so I can no longer view full videos, but only a 10 second preview of 'activity' in my home unless I buy the membership...therefore I can no longer use this device for home security because the video will not show anything without the membership. I will not be paying a $10/month membership on top of the camera I purchased for this poor device. Since I have had the camera for a few months, and since Canary will no longer give free full access to activity detected videos for 24 hours, I will no longer use this product and my Canary will become an expensive and disappointing paper weight...I will also refuse to do business with this company in the future. When I purchased this product their policy was to give full access to videos for 24 hours without a membership, now my canary is virtually useless without the membership...would like to hear back from Canary regarding this policy change as to why they can take the full videos away and I am sure many other people who currently have the product and not the membership are also very upset at Canary.

Good camera to keep on eye on your home, easy to set up, there's room for improvement

Like others have stated, the company offered a pretty good plan for the non-membership customers. The non-membership plan was plenty for me and my use of the system. I have two camera's, one inside and one outside. I would monitor our babysitter throughout the day, or go over the video when I got home to make sure things were going OK. It would also alert me if someone came to the door. As of 10/4/17, the new policy will no longer do the things I bought the camera's for without paying a monthly fee. I confirmed this info through the app's chat feature and found it interesting that the representative also did not agree with the policy change and apologized for the actions the company has made. Although the camera's picture quality and feature's really nice, I'm just really disappointed the company would do this to its customers that have already invested hundreds into the equipment.

We've had our Canary up and running for about 2 weeks and we love it! I did have difficulty syncing it to my phone, but I think the problem was that the rubber guard on my phone prevented the yellow cord from being fully inserted. When I removed it all went smoothly. The Canary captures and alerts us to what is going on in the house when we are out . We don't have security issues but we have two dogs and like seeing that they are comfortable & OK. Canary is definitely a positive addition to our home. We like that we can shift the location of the Canary for different views of the house.

I read the reviews that sounded great but in actual use the product is a failure for me. Alerts come as a text message and very easy to miss them; video is too high bandwidth to download if your smart phone in not on wifi and the unit is extremely sensitive to light/false alarms. Additionally unless one day storage is ok for you you need to spend $10 a month for access. Only good thing is very clear pictures.

Living on campus has many benefits and many drawbacks. The biggest drawback to me is that you never know when someone might stumble into your room and start rummaging through your stuff. After a long semester of living uncomfortably with a roommate who felt too "communal" with my stuff, I moved into a single down the hall. Even though I now live alone, the trauma of last semester still haunts me, and my dad got me this sweet device. I quickly installed it in the room and now have the comfort of knowing that whatever happens when I'm in class I'm covered. I now can leave my laptop and my wallet in the room without the fear of someone barging in and "appropriating" any of my stuff. Great Buy, a must for any college freshman.

This product is fantastic. We got a Canary in our home a few months ago, and I'm so glad we did. The app is well designed and easy to use, and it's so comforting to know my home is being monitored when I'm not there. We recently bought a bed for our dog, and it's nice to know she's actually using it! We also have a "pet-sitter" come over and walk her once a day, and it's great to be able to make sure the actually come at the time they're supposed to. The auto-arming feature is key, so I never have to remember to arm the system when I leave the house. For $249, Canary is a bargain. I constantly find myself recommending it to friends and family, and I can't wait to see what this company comes up with next.

I have a very sick dog at home, and I hate not being able to check on her while I'm at work. With this i can watch and hear my dogs from my phone any time I want to. I can also talk to them through my phone and they can hear me through the camera. It's also got night vision so nighttime is no problem, and ita motion detective so it starts recording and sends you notifications if motion is detected. I LOVE this thing.

I bought the Canary security camera about 3 years ago. When I purchased it, this camera did everything that I wanted and needed it to do: record and save video, night vision and switching modes. With the latest app update, Canary has made the business destroying decision to make all these features only with a PAID SUBSCRIPTION. Yes, that's right. All the free features that the camera launched with are now paid features. This turns this camera into an expensive web cam. Do not buy. It's no longer worth the money. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Canary products or services at all. I'm just waiting for someone to file a class action so I can join.

As a graduate of a small college who recently moved into the city, I was nervous about the security of my apartment. I found Canary by way of my grandparents, who use Canary to keep an eye on their home in Florida while they are away. It's an incredible comfort knowing that if anything were to happen in my apartment, I would be notified right away. Beyond the video recordings and night-mode (which is one of the features I like most about this product) my parents were able to use their Canary when the hurricane hit to check on their home, and track of the humidity and temperature while they were in safety. Overall, great product.

Sleek product, love the live feed that shows me what's happening in my apt, and how it automatically arms when I leave the apt.

I've had a pretty good experience so far with my Canary. I ordered it when I moved to my own place after living with roommates for a while, so I feel better coming home knowing what I'm walking into. I had some trouble setting it up initially, but contacted customer service and they got it set up for me.

I really like the Canary's functionality and crisp pictures. It by far exceeds my expectations. I would highly recommend this product and service.

I've owned a Canary for about 18 month. At first I absolutely loved it. I bought one for my son, as he was moving into a college apartment. And my sister bought one because I spoke so highly of it. About 4 months ago, it started switching from the away mode to the home mode when I was not at home. Since I didn't need it to record when I was at home, I have the home mode set to private - it didn't record. I tried to call their customer service, but they don't have reps that will speak to you. I tried contacting them via text, but the rep was juggling more than one conversation and was getting us confused. He finally asked me to turn off the canary and router, which I did. But the problem persists. I'm also not happy with the new membership. I was trying to avoid monthly service fees. I believe existing owners should have been grandfathered in the original agreement.

DO NOT BUY! Canary have worked well for awhile but when they switched free subscription plan, USELESS! With the free plan, it will ONLY record 10 seconds of video. If you are home, you will not have an option to record your video. So, if you are home and someone breaks into your home and you are violently attacked, the camera will turn the blind eye and will NOT record anything. ME: If you are in away OR in Night mode, the camera only records 12 second with free subscription. (Free is not free because we purchased over $1400 worth of canary BEFORE you made the free subscription changes.) Please explain CANARY: If your Canary is in Away mode, it will continuously look for motion. Once it detect motion it will record the first 10 seconds of significant motion and save them to your Timeline. The Canary will only record the first 10 seconds of signification motion for every 10 minutes of continuous motion. On the free plan you will not be able to schedule a Night mode but you can set your Home mode to have the Watch Live feature. ME: You cannot record any video if you are in home mode if you have the degraded subscription. Example: if my father in law is at home and he gets robbed (or violently attacked during the day while he is home, the camera will not pick up any video unless you have paid for a subscription? I tried to have it set to record while in home mode and it will not allow us too.. so that makes the camera useless unless you have a subscription? Please explain CANARY: That is correct, on home mode you will have the option to set your Canary to private or have the Watch Live feature on. This will allow you to view what is going on in your home but it will not record that motion. Canary started out great and they went downhill after their third year of this product. I would recommend NEST Cam over Canary.
