Customers often highlight the excellent camera quality, ease of use, and reliable night vision of this indoor wireless home security system. Many appreciate the system's responsive motion detection and convenient features like temperature monitoring and a loud siren. Great home security camera system and apps

I was trying to figure out why people only gave this a 4.2 because I think this deserves 5 stars. I set up the camera very easily and quickly with no issues. I did not have bluetooth so I used an audio cable instead. The picture quality is high definition, decent sound quality too. I used a ethernet cable instead of WiFi. I downloaded both iOS app for iPad and the Android app. I do prefer the iPad only because the screen size is larger. I have never owned a Nest cam or a Foscam but I rate this highly because the alarm, temperature and air quality are great extras. My only minor complaint is that there is a 5 second delay lag but that's no big deal.It does everything that is says on the box.

    Great Product

This device is the wave of the future. I receive notifications on my iPhone when there is movement in my home and at any time, I can open the app and see exactly what is going on around my home. I previously read other reviews about a lot of false notifications, but I don't seem to have an issue with that.

    Talkative Bird

If this is a canary, then boy does it sing. You will get a notification for every sound or movement it detects. Best to keep it near an entrance but maybe not near a class window that can detect a lot of outside motion that will lead to many false positives.

Really wanted to like this equipment

Really wanted to like this equipment. Great all-in-one and it worked very well for 2 months, no issues. After Canary sent out latest App Updates, I lost the ability to see the Real Time Feed and Alerts no longer functioned. I worked with the Support Team for 6 weeks, they even sent a replacement out, which also did not work properly. Both have been sent back and I am awaiting refund now. Shame, I wanted this to work badly.

Used to be a great product until Canary nerfed it

    Posted .

On 2 Oct 2017, Canary completely nerfed the free plan that is available with this product. Several months ago, they took the video recording from 12 hours to 6 hours (I have four Canary devices). I initially purchased these devices because of the fact that there were no monthly fees, and it would keep 12 hours of recording for free. Now they’re making it so that you can only see 10 seconds of action, and remove many other features from the app. I am vehemently opposed to any more monthly fees (I feel that we’re already “monthly fee’d” to death anyway on everything, and this seems to be getting worse in recent years). I purchased Canary expecting to get at a bare minimum 5 years (and hopefully 10) of use out of it. However, with Canary’s recent nerfing, I am feeling that I need to start looking for alternative solutions. I have been looking into the Arlo Q and Logitech Circle. I am very unhappy to only get around 2 years of use out of these cameras, meaning each one cost me $100/year. I find that to be completely unacceptable, and hope that Canary will reconsider their decisions. I have previously recommended Canary products to friends, and some ended up purchasing one. I will no longer be able to recommend Canary unless they reverse this decision (and soon), and unfortunately, it looks like I’ll also no longer be able to be a Canary customer myself (unless this decision is reversed very soon).

Hi chwebb, thanks for the feedback and for choosing to use and recommend Canary. I’m sorry to hear that you're disappointed with the changes to our free plan. To clarify a couple things: with these service changes if you are using our free plan your 6-hour video storage timeline has actually been increased to 24 hours for each device, while the video clip length per motion event is shorter (the free plan records 10 second video clips when motion is detected, while our Membership plan records and stores all motion). This change aligns with the cost to process and store the video. Our free plan also includes notifications when motion is detected (as well as customizable HomeHealth notifications for temperature, humidity, and air quality deviations), the ability to Watch Live anytime (day or night—with automatic night vision), activity zone masking, remote siren activation, one-touch access to police/fire/EMS, automatic arming/disarming, and more. Much of what we offer is not available on the free plans that come with other devices in our category. Membership (which is completely optional) enables additional features such as longer video clips, extended storage, desktop streaming, and more. You can see how our Membership offer stacks up against others here: https://canary.is/comparison. Please know that changes to our free service were carefully considered based on user needs and preferences, while also addressing the costs to provide a free option. Since we first launched Canary we have continuously updated the product experience with new features and improvements and will continue to do so for all users. All the best, Jon @ Canary CanaryCo

A great solution for busy millennials

As a busy 20-something tax accountant I find myself away from my home more often than I want to be. When I'm in the office on those late nights, I often find myself wondering "How's my dog?," "Are my roommates home?," and sometimes "Is my apartment safe?". In comes Canary, a little security solution that I can use to answer all of these unknowns. Although I had a slight bump during set-up, overall the product is a great, simple way to stay up to date on my pet, my roommates, and the security of my home.

Canary was good security camera before the recent update. The recent update took away existing features and now Canary is basically useless without the paid membership. The best selling point for Canary the ability to have decent security system without paid membership, but now that it is gone, it is basically worthless. Better off buying other camera from bigger/more reliable companies. Who knows what features they'll take away next with the next update?

Great Cameras Unusable with New Service

I have two Canarys, one inside and one out. They worked great until Canary changed their service plan beginning this month. Now I can no longer use my cameras when I am at home unless I subscribe to their plan. I don't want or need the recording, I just want to use them for checking the property, both home and away. This is apparently no longer possible and I have $400 worth on useless cameras.

Watch out for disappearing features! This company promised certain features when the product was purchased, only the remove them and make you pay $9.99/mo to get them back! So anything you see advertised now, may change after you spend you money on this product. My advice is to search out other similar products at trustworthy companies. I wish I had, but now its too late.

    To many issues

    Posted .

I went through 2 of these . First one shut down and would never power back up . Second one . After a lot of various testing I find this unit is not tracking motion . It is tracking variations in lighting . I can literally dance in front of it and it will not register motion . But if I have a light source on behind me the canary will register the change in light as motion . It is advertised as instant notifications. When it registers the change in light it takes 1-2 minutes to finally get notified . Older reviews had issues of being to sensitive. I max out sensitivity and notifications are horribly slow . The second follow up notification when I return for more movement around light can take upwards of 5 minutes to get notified . I tried another test where I crawled to the canary (avoiding any bright light sources) I was able to crawl right to the canary and unplug it without it noticing me . Returning my second one soon and going with a different camera

    Canary Home Security

Canary is a wonderful product for viewing your home while you're away, and it can bring a great deal of comfort to you while traveling. This inexpensive form of home security makes it possible to have more than one device, focusing on several areas of your house, displaying current views and activity taking place during your absence.

DO NOT PURCHASE THE CANARY CAMERA!!! It is a scam! you used to have all the free features of night mode and full-length videos which are now only paid features. The camera quality and night vision are very good but the fact that you can't use these features now makes the camera useless. You now only get 10 second videos, how helpful is that?

Hi Becky, There has been some confusion concerning the difference between "Night Vision" and “Night Mode” that I’d like to clarify. “Night Vision” is a feature built-in to the device that works for ALL users (whether on our free service plan or our paid Membership plan) that allows the camera to clearly see and record video anytime the environment is dark, whether during the day or in the middle of the night. Canary automatically switches into the Night Vision setting whenever it gets dark. There is no charge for the Night Vision feature. This is different than "Night Mode" (which is now part of our Membership plan)—Night Mode is a scheduling feature in the app that can be configured so that Canary switches it’s recording, notification, or privacy settings automatically at different times of the day. While this scheduling feature is an added benefit of Membership, our free plan does not prevent users from manually arming the system at night (or anytime) by putting it into Away mode (to record and send alerts). You can of course arm the device anytime you choose—day or night. As for video recording, while many other cameras on the market don’t record any video for free, we continue to offer 10 second video recordings when motion is detected stored on a 24-hour timeline. Membership is optional and enables additional features such as longer video clips, extended storage, desktop streaming, and more. You can find more information about Membership here: https://canary.is/membership. Please know that changes to our free service were carefully considered based on user needs and preferences, while also addressing the costs to provide a free option. Since we first launched Canary we have continuously updated the product experience with new features and improvements and will continue to do so for all users. All the best, - Jon @ Canary CanaryCo

    Changed features now USELESS

I bought my canary about 2 years ago at which time without a membership you were allowed access to videos for 24h. If you wanted videos stored longer you needed to upgrade to a membership. This was my understanding & it is what made me chose Canary. Now they change the terms so that you get these mini clips that cutoff WHILE motion is happening unless you pay the fee. If they chose to do this for new users that is fine. Ppl can buy or not based on this understanding. But to impose this on long time users feels like a racket. I’m sure they are legally within their rights to do this but I now need to either pay for a membership or toss my canary and buy a different brand of camera that will do what my canary was once capable of. I refuse to give canary another dollar. I have recommended this camera to several friends & was about to purchase a flex. I’m glad i didn’t now. I’m thoroughly disappointed & as a business practice this should not be allowed. Imagine if you bought a dryer & after 2 years the manufacturer came by & modified it so it would only run 30 minutes at a time. Then asked you for more money to make it run for a full cycle like it used to. Fair? Doesn’t feel like it.

We love our canary! It's a great home security device for any kind of residence, but in particular for our small city apartment. We love the live feed feature, which helps to give us piece of mind when we're not home. Overall, we are very pleased with canary and look forward to future updates and enhancements.

All you are getting is an overpriced webcam. You get constant notifications every time there's a shadow or light change in the room. It doesn't know the difference so you eventually get tired of checking it. It only remembers notifications from the last 12 hours unless you SUBSCRIBE to their monthly membership and pay monthly fees. So basically anything that happens while you sleep is lost... Don't waste your money. Oh, and if you don't like it, you can't resell it to someone else because ownership can't be transferred... might as well throw it away.

I have two Canary devices. The first one I bought two years ago and the second one recently. Canary changed the features and are now forcing everyone to purchase a compulsory service plan. I don’t want any additional features, but Canary wants me to pay monthly fees to use my device.

Good, until the bait and switch

Purchased Canary specifically because of the basic features it offered without requiring a monthly membership in comparison to their competition. I like to know the total cost of ownership before I buy in, and despite my mistrust of hardware that is controlled by a corporation/cloud, this seemed like a good compromise - if I really wanted those features, I'd pony up later. Canary has been steadily adding features that were definitely interesting but requiring a membership to access them, which while obnoxious wasn't a problem since I'd already bought in with some specific expectations about what it could do. Recently Canary has started to remove existing features for existing non-subscribers, effectively rendering the device much less capable than originally advertised and forcing a membership in order to access functionality that was once included at the time of hardware purchase.
