    I picked up my Canary early this week, and for the first day or so, it seemed to work pretty well. I had it set up in my living room to watch over things, and liked being able to check in remotely to make sure all was well. I keep my ceiling fan running pretty much all the time to keep the air moving in my house and after "tagging" the first motion event as such, the Canary appeared to have learned that my ceiling fan was acceptable movement. Now, a few short days later, the device is sending me alerts literally every 10-15 minutes (Close to 50 alerts have racked up while I've been at work today.) No matter how often I tag the activity, it no longer ignores my ceiling fan. Not only that, but the video length for each of these alerts is over 5 minutes long. The frequency of these false alarms renders this thing completely useless to me. The design is great, and the extra features like air quality/temperature monitoring are cool. But it doesn't seem to be able to do the primary thing I purchased it for, which is reliably alert me if something out of the ordinary is happening inside my home.

    I researched the assorted DIY home security cameras in BEst Buy for several months before going with the Canary. I'm glad I did because it was easy to set up and add additional users but the clincher was the fact it doesn't look like all the techie security cameras and it automatically activates and deactivates when I come and go.

    Forcing Membership now… *** Consider another option unless you want to Pay Monthly !!... I have several Canary devices which are good quality cameras and loved using them and the services, but now they removed most of the security options from the app in order to force monthly membership… very short motion videos now unless you Pay !! The whole reason for choosing Canary in the first place was to Not have to pay for monthly membership !! So now that we have purchased their camera devices which are Not inexpensive, they go and take away their security benefits unless you start paying membership fees… I am very disappointed in this change … I am hoping they will restore the app options we had before that was part of the agreement when we bought the devices. *** Consider another option unless you want to Pay Monthly !!

    Got this device so I could check up on my home while I was away as a means for home security. However now that I have it, I mostly use it to find out what my pets have been doing while I am away. Great device that lets me check in on them

    I researched for months before buying a security device. I had read great reviews about canary. The one thing it did not have that some others had was 2 way audio. Though that feature would be nice to be able to speak to family when i am not at home, it was not a deal breaker. The canary has a 90 decibel siren that is activated by you on your phone app if necessary and also allows you to program your local police dept and fire dept phone numbers and if needed you press call emergency number on the app and you are connected with authorities. The other nice feature although not really necessary is that it monitors air quality and tells you if the air becomes abnormal and it also measures temperature and humidity levels. Al in all it is a good product but would like to see a few small improvements such as the 2 way audio feature. There is also cloud recording available but it cost extra if you want more than the 12 hour timeline. That must be where they make a good portion of their money is in the cloud recording fees. this is something i will have to loo at later. For now the free 12 hour timeline is good for me.

    Purchased my all in one less than 1 yr ago. It was very appealing as I can not afford to pay a monthly fee. Free service WAS great and the box says no membership required. As of 10.3.17 all that WAS free became something you had no choice but to pay for. Changes to free service: -1 week of recordings; reduced to 1 day -recording while in home mode and night mode; reduced to no recording during those times -full recording of motion detected; reduced to 10 sec clip -Scheduling when modes come into effect; reduced to not a free service Free service no longer provides a sense of security for me while at home or away. I will sell my Canary and get something else as the company does not seem to care.

    Nice Security Solution

    I also had problems at first, the unit wouldn't switch between Home and Away modes properly. I went through the steps many times and finally contacted support through chat. Yes, it took awhile to find one but he was very helpful, not making me go through the steps again, and finally checked my account and found that I had "registered" my unit twice, messing with GPS. "A common problem" he said. Follow the instructions, namely, connect to Ethernet for initial setup, and it works great. I would like to know more about the air quality reading as mine seems to spike often. BB price matched AMZ.

    Did not work as advertised

    I waited a year for production. But it did not work as advertised. Kept freezing on the app and the unit. Did a test where I had someone enter my home when armed. It did not send me a notice, so alarm never sounded. Could have lost everything if it was a real event. And if I need updates to fix multiple bugs, then it should not have been released to the public until it is perfect. For the price, it should work out of the box. Had to return it.

    Great Camera- Good Value

    Had a break in at my house not long ago and wish I would have had this camera before that. The camera can be a little sensitive to movement but I also can move the sensitivity down. Notifications to my phone aren't always consistent but overall happy with the product.

    Canary has changed for the worst

    I purchased 2 Canary Security Cameras from Best Buy. For the past year I have had the feature of reviewing videos of our homewatch person checking our house when we are away. I just learned that the main features of the camera have changed. You must pay $99 per year to get the feature of saved videos. Also the night sleep feature has been taken away. I purchased the Canary because it was cheaper than paying a monitoring company. With this change, the cost of Wi-Fi plus the monthly canary monitoring fee is more than a regular commercial monitoring company. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS BEFORE YOU BUY A CANARY CAMERA. I am going to research replacements now!!

    Very disappointed with policy change

    Due to a recent policy change this device no longer records more than a few seconds when in away mode. I took the dog for a walk and had left the front door unlocked and got a notification while down the street. I went back right away and the door was shut so I wanted to check the video but it stopped as soon as the door was opened. A membership is required to view the video... So disappointing that this product has now become entirely useless without the extra membership... as reviews and home security articles say, there are better options available, don't make the mistake and get canary products. The device also stays in home mode from time to time do you have to constantly check the app to make sure you're in away mode.

    Good camera works well

    I just downloaded the new app available this week, 03/11/2017. No issues with it as of yet. I have had the camera 2 plus years. It works well at night in the dark in the house. Its color is black and white at night. It clearly shows my dog walking around at night in low light and in the dark.During the day it is in full rich color and is beautiful. It time stamps all activity and captures movement only so it is not showing long periods of a still room. The ceiling fans don't trip it on. The inferred beam against a window close to it will cause a whiteout and no pic due to the reflection. So It won't show outside pictures at night thru a window close to the camera. This is an indoor-only camera. It works well with the home wifi which we have set up in another room. I have had no trouble contacting the camera when I am out of state using the original App. We have it sitting among our stereo and TV equipment and appears to be part of that system. The black was chosen so it blends in with our setting. It was easy to set up. Plug it in the wall, download the app. Enter your wifi password and the info the app wants for security and you are up and running. You can add cameras from the app easily. The picture can be expanded or compressed by pinching your smartphone screen. It has a very wide angle and is a great camera system. It captures our family room, dining area, and part of the kitchen with no problem recognizing people in all those rooms. We have an open floor plan looking about 40 feet long.

    Very Good Security Camera Alternative

    I have been very pleased with this camera. It is a little too sensitive for my liking, but that's better than the alternative. I wish this version was compatible with HomeKit but it sounds like that update is coming. Reasonably priced and no contract!

    My house was burglarized and Canary did nothing.

    Let me start by saying that this is my first ever negative product review. I have never been so disappointed by both a product's functionality and the poor customer service offered to me after the incident as I am from Canary. I was notified by my neighbor that my home was broken into while my fiancé and I were out of the country. The thieves broke our bedroom window and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and electronics from our home. Upon receiving this information from my neighbor, I immediately checked our Canary camera footage to see if it had caught the burglars on camera. It did in fact record a portion of the burglary, which, according to the footage, actually occurred over 10 days before - on the night we left for our trip. I never received a single notification that there was a person (in fact, at least 2 people) in our home. Both my fiancé and I have the Canary app, and both of our phones were with us in South America and on data plans. The camera was in Away mode and set to record people AND to notify us of any such movement. The fact that neither of us received a notification is frankly infuriating. Had we known about the burglary earlier, we could have perhaps caught the criminals in the act, or at least have had a better chance of getting our belongings back before they inevitably sold them. Also, it took me 4 days of attempts just to download my security footage of the burglars from the app to give to the police. When I contacted Canary support to ask why I a) had not received a notification that my house was being burglarized and b) could not download the footage, they skipped right over the notification issue and instructed me to delete and redownload the app in order to download the footage. When I asked them AGAIN why I had not received a security breach notification, they coldly referred me to a pre-written HELP page on their website. Oh, and they refused to allow me to contact them in any format other than their support email. I purchased my Canary cam in an effort to feel more secure in my home. This event proves that the use of the camera is not able to provide the service it is intended for. In addition, their support team was completely unhelpful and unapologetic. I am wholeheartedly disappointed. Save your money, buy a NEST system. $20,000 in stolen items later, my Canary is going straight in the trash.

    Love this product and love supporting this crowdfunded company. Any bugs I've experienced have been small and swiftly addressed/updated with regular app updates. Looking forward to seeing what new features are coming!

    This product more than met my expectations for up until two days ago. I own 5 of these devices at two locations. The company just decided that it would change its terms of service and no longer allow night recording while you were at home without a subscription service. The packaging when I purchased clearly stated there was no subscription required. Also, you can no longer see full videos that are recorded in away mode without a subscription. I cannot NOT recommend this company enough! Please do your research and buy from another company!

    I returned mine. It simply did not work. The app would always freeze, I would get 25 false alerts a day, and it never knew whether I had left the house or not. This was worse than the alternative--having no monitoring at all. On top of all of that, the customer service from Canary was the worst I've ever experienced. Even if Canary irons out all the issues with the system itself, I don't expect them to be in business long if they can't fix their customer service. And if they go out of business, your Canary is worthless as anything other than a door stop (but it works great for that!).
