Customers are saying

Customers praise the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for its exceptional image quality and beautiful bokeh, with many also highlighting its impressively fast focusing capabilities. However, some users find the lens to be heavy and expensive. The size of the lens is also a point of concern for a few customers.

    Fantastic Lens

This lens is excellent and easily becomes my favorite lens. Super sharp even at f2.8. Quiet and quick focus. I directly compared it with my Canon 100-400mm 4.5 - 5.6L lens and it trumps the 100-400 by a big margin in terms of sharpness and auto focus. I also attached the Canon 1.4x II extender to the 70-200 2.8 IS II and the sharpness of this combo still outperforms the 100-400mm. Although it is pricey and heavy, you will forget all about it after you see the images taken by this lens. Highly recommended. Job well done, Canon.

A definite must have for any Canon owner!

Excellent lens to the Canon lineup and I must say one of the sharpest lenses I've ever had the opportunity to use period. The new formula Canon has used for this lens makes the images very sharp and the image crops are amazing to look at. About the only thing getting use to is the heaviness of the lens. Some owners of the 1st edition will have a difficult justifying the current jump in price to its current $2500 price tag. If you're quite content with the first version, I say stay with it for the time being and wait for the lens to come down in price over the course of the next year.

    Arguably the most versatile lens

I've owned this lens since February 2010 when it first hit US retailers. In the 200mm range, I had owned the Canon EF 70-200 f/4L (non-IS) and the Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II. I also had the opportunity to use a friend's Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS (original v1). The 200mm f/2.8L II is incredibly sharp wide open @ f/2.8 and for the price is an incredible value if you need f/2.8 at 200mm. The 70-200 f/2.8L IS (1) has noticeable chromatic aberration wide-open. But the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II is significantly improved over the original, and in my opinion (controlled testing), has sharpness wide open at 200mm that rivals Canon's 200mm f/2.8L II prime. This lens is incredibly sharp and the 70-200mm focal range is so versatile. I shoot lots of portraits, and this is my go to lens (even over my 85mm f/1.2L II). While the 85L is considered the top portrait lens by most, I like the ability to shoot a photo session at various focal ranges / perspectives without having to change lenses. If I was only allowed one lens in my kit, it would be this lens. Some will find it heavy. Others will debate the price. If either worry you, I assure you the superb quality of this lens far outweighs the price and weight.

This is a lense that I have wanted ever since I went on a photo shoot four years ago and the instructor shot with this lense. The sharpness and speed is phenomenal, this is my first L-series lense and I can't be any happier with with choice.

This is the sweetest, most optically brilliant lens I have ever owned in my 35 years of photographing. It's tack sharp and so forgiving with the IS. You can get shots that you only dreamt about before. The boket is awesome and it doesn't lack anything. It's hefty as good glass needs to be. Be prepared for a bit of a workout. This lens will not disappoint you in every other respect.

This is the lens to get. Great for wedding photography, portraits, sports, and capturing precious family moments! The image quality is tack sharp, AF speed is amazing and spot on, and the bokeh it produces is outstanding. Great in low light. Paired it with a 1.4x extender for airshows and wildlife and it produced great images. This is my go-to lens and is worth every penny!

Turns a hobbyist into a pro good lens

I had the lens but unfortunately had to return it. Just like others have said it's heavy but durable. I had great action shots of a play in a dark atmosphere. I need to try the 100-400 as I need more distance. Great wedding lens too for blurred background. I consider myself a hobbyist photographer. My FB friends have highly complimented the pics wondering who took them Family/friends/church/sports/clubs

    Great Piece Of Canon Glass

If you're serious about photography then this glass is a must have in your camera bag. The image quality that this lens produces is great. The IS work very good in that low light situation. I don't have the steadiest hands but the IS feature helps a great deal!!! This is one Canon's top 10 lenses. Beg or borrow get your hands on this lens. I also own the non IS version of this glass too.
