I use my wireless router to connect via wifi-calling. but when this router heats up it starts to have issues and become unstable. It hasnt even been a year since purchase and now i will need to find another alternative.

    Dropping issues

This purchase has become a nightmare. The product was purchased three days ago, I installed/hooked everything up, and began the process of working on line only to be dropped after a couple hours. Hit the fix internet connections which seemed to fix the problem only to be be dropped again. This has continued throughtout the weekend. Contacted Tech Support at the internet provider. They suggested a radio change, which I did only to make things worse, now I cannot get on at all. I am very discouraged with product. I had an Actiontec M1000 with the module and did not have any problems with connections until the module died. I wish I could replace the module but have not been able to find one. No, I am not a tech guru. But, I am not completely challenged either

    VDSL Modem

Ordered this so I could have more ports than my previous 1 hookup. However, am disappointed that the signal strength often decreases and drops. Causes problems for my PC and my wireless printer. Almost wish I had stayed with the single line modem.

    Functional but slow on WIFI

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Functional. Modem does it's job. Router function does it's job. WIFI works. BUT ... it loses 2/3 of speed over wireless compared to hard wired through Ethernet. Which is sad because it advertised to handle up to 300mbps on wireless but it can't handle my 40mbps internet speed. I ran speed tests with my laptop 4 feet away from the router, so distance is not the issue. Hard wired tests at about 36mbps and wireless tests at about 11mbps. Will have to buy a dedicated wireless router and see if speed comes across faster.

    Disapointed

I got this to replace a gateway router costing half as much. I thought for twice the money I would get better performance. In fact, the performance is no better than my old gateway-router. The signal strength drops off a mere twelve feet from the gateway in line-of-sight. Worse, it has no external antenna and no antenna port, so there is no way to upgrade the antenna. Also, it has no on-off switch. The old one at least had a switch. I feel like I have been had. There are less expensive wireless gateway-routers that work with Century Link which are just as good or better. Don't waste your money paying extra for this one.

I've lost Internet connectivity twice, in 1 week

I needed to get a new modem. The Best Buy person suggested that I get this modem, since I've got CenturyLink as my ISP, and that they're likely to go to VDSL at some point in the near future, so I did. However, I am underwhelmed. We've lost Internet connectivity twice, and I haven't even had this modem a week year. Honestly, if there were another one I could have purchased it, instead of this one.

I absolutely love this. My connection never drops or nothing. I am satisfied with my product. Wifi reaches quite a few feet, i can go to the house next door and still use my wifi. Had to call customer service when setting up because i didn't know how to, but they answered right away and practically did it for me! I am glad that i purchased this product!

    Dying after ~1.5 years

Bought this about a year and half ago and it's already starting to die on us. Right now it seems to overheat and shut down. The only fix is to pull the plug. We barely got our $99 out of it (rather than paying $6 a month rental fee). Unfortunately this is the only one available so we are stuck with it. Also the Wireless N signal is quite weak, my older Netgear WNDR3700 has a far better signal.

I bought new the CenturyLink c1000a. Connecting to the dsl service went simple enough. Post installation performance testing caused me to notice that when several devices were connected wirelessly to the modem, the bandwidth allocation gave one device the majority of the bandwidth which in turn crippled all other devices rendering them useless. Eventually they all became useless as the mbps dropped below 1mbps. I worked with CenturyLink tech support for a day and they concluded I needed to return the device, which I did. I returned home with my new CenturyLink c1000a for the second time and connected it quite easily. Bandwidth allocation seemed to behave correctly and I was able to connect three devices and streamed simultaneously from youtube with no problem. After one day of minimal usage, the modem quit working. I tried to access the modem software to verify via the 192.168.0.1 and I could not access it. I reset the modem 1, 2 and 3 times via the button on the back of the modem before calling tech support. They tried to walk me through the reset steps only to come to the same conclusion that I did earlier, the modem was not working. Recommendation given to me was to return the modem, again. The modem needs help with the routing support and actiontec needs to take these issue serious as they are failing and doing a disservice to CenturyLink. Just for kicks, I am going to continue to return these modems and retry them to see what percentage of them are junk. So far they have failed 100% of the time. We'll see.

I might have been able to save $20 with another supplier but I figured it wasn't worth the hassle if something went wrong and I needed internet access. I plugged it in and was up in running in a few minutes.

ONLY WORKS WITH CENTURY LINK DSL SERVICE

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This modem got great reviews, and I was really looking forward to replacing my crummy Windstream modem. I was unsure if it would work with my Windstream DSL service -- the online reviews were ambiguous. When I asked the Best Buy tech at my local store, he said, "No problem -- it should work with any DSL service." This was not true. As the Century Link telephone rep told me this a.m. while trying to get me to switch to Century Link, this modem ONLY WORKS WITH CENTURY LINK DSL SERVICE. Very disappointed in Best Buy for selling me a modem I can't use.

I'm on my third modem of this type. For me, they typically fail within 6-8 months of purchase. If like me you have no other decent choice, I highly recommend buying a warranty with this.

OK if you don't need wifi

If you use CenturyLink DSL you have limited choices of available routers. This router works OK for the DSL portion, but the built-in wifi just stops working regularly (once to twice a week) and you have to reboot the router. The internet is full of people with the same complaint, but Actiontec has done nothing about it. I finally disabled the wifi and purchased a good (not Actiontec) wifi router to sit behind this DSL router. Also, if you need a networking feature called loopback, the Actiontec does not support this feature which I needed (so I made sure the new wifi router I purchased from TP-Link did).

I would not recommend buying this item from Best Buy. If theres an issue with it they will not honor the manufactures warranty. Also the sales person at best buy told us this was a wonderful unit for multiple divices. That is not true. We can not operate multiple divices without the divice shutting down. Dont make the same mistake if you have other options.
