Good idea but stay away.

The worst part is that it randomly open garage by itself. I had times waking at 5 am to leave to work and my garage being open all night!

Works, a little obnoxious in setup and function
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had my eye on the MyQ smart garage opener for some time, so now that I have it I've found it to be a fairly useful device, if a little annoying to get set up, and very annoying if you're around when you use it. First, setup... The setup seems straightforward. Connecting it to my garage door opener was quick and easy, worked on the first try... The WiFi portion is a little more annoying... You connect to this device with wifi so you can set it up through the devices web page... A little tip. Be sure to turn off the LTE on your phone (especially if you're using Android) when connected to the device. Since most modern cell phones recognize when they are connected to a WiFi network without internet connection, while they may stay connected, they tend to fallback to their cellular network connection for web addresses. This leads the setup to think it has no connection to your device. Just be sure then when you're finished with the webpage setup portion you turn your LTE back on so you can finish the remainder. When using the device, opening is no problem, you hit the button, it opens immediately with little fanfare... When closing it, it beeps loudly and obnoxiously for about 10 seconds before it starts to close. I understand the need, in case someone is standing in the way of the door as it closes, just be aware that this is normal behavior, if a bit redundant as all modern garage door openers have door sensors. A quick note on smart home standards... This device does not support Apple's Homekit, IFTTT or any one of the number of other smart home type standards out there that could make it very useful to function from something like Alexa or Google Home or another smart home device. Overall it was less annoying to configure and use than many 'smart' devices I've obtained in the past and it will be a useful addition to my home. It would be nice if they added functionality for it to be more useful in this world of cross platform smart home standards.

Works but hard to connect to

Garbage

Takes almost 2 hours for it to sense that the door is closed. I read reviews where you might need to move the hub around or maybe sprinkle it with pixie dust to get it to work. Too much of a hassle. This thing is just made with cheap parts.

Not sure, never got it set up.

I called their tech support and they walked me through a sequence that seemed promising. It still has never connected. We have a wifi connection in the garage and I'm an IT professional.

Great concept - poor execution

Not sure why, but apparently they are working on a fix to support this in the future. Might want to wait if you have a mesh network, otherwise you will not likely be able to connect it to your wifi network.

Not for me

I tried for way too long trying to get it to even connect to my wifi. It connected to my garage door opener once...and then never did again. There are better options out there.

Was not able to put it next to my garage door opener because it was too high up for me to mount it. So I returned it. Will find another way to monitor my garage door. Maybe with a motion sensor.

Huge waste of money

MyQ Customer Service is bad

Poor Product

Not what we hoped for
