Does not work with Eero networks. Sits there seemingly pending connection. After an hour of googling and troubleshooting, decided to return this.

I had a MyQ garage door opener in my previous house and I loved it. I wanted to convert my new house (with old motor) to be a "smart garage." The benefits are a no brainer, I set a schedule for my garage to close at a certain time every morning and night so in case someone left it open, it's closed. You can literally check whether your door is open anywhere you have internet connection on your phone. Those benefits, were present in my older house (with new MyQ motor) and I was able to obtain with my newer house (with old non-smart motor). The bad part, at least for me, is the lack of any Google Home integration. Now, truth be told, you never really need it. I mean when will you be inside your house and need to open the garage? You generally open the door when you walk into the garage. And when you do need to open it (when you're outside, say you went on a walk) your Google Home isn't there. But I like all of my smart home devices to be integrated into as few apps as possible. I now have a another app (Google Home, Arlo, Linksys WiFi, Nest, Chamberlain, etc.) But again, this is by no means a deal breaker, you won't find yourself (I wouldn't think) using the app all that often, but it is just too convenient when you need it. And $100 is nice piece of mind. Now, onto setup. It's pretty easy. Although I will say that the instructions leave much to be desired. They're not wrong, but they don't explain to you how the device works (i.e. how the hub connects to your "dumb" garage door motor). Ends up, the small controller that attaches to the door sends old school garage door codes (i.e. it's another garage door opener) and that connects to your hub and the hub connects to your WiFi network. Setting up on iPhone was a pain, you have to connect to the hub's WiFi, go to the browser, type in a URL, type in WiFi connection, download app, and then open app. I could not, for the life of me, get the app to recognize the hub. Finally I entered the serial number which was on the box. It wasn't hard, don't get me wrong, but it just seemed more difficult than it needed to be and if the instructions actually had some descriptions in it (other than download the app and follow the instructions) it would have been more straightforward. All in all, I recommend this unversal device. I actually really recommend a new motor with MyQ built in (because I do worry about errors in the app telling me garage door open when it's not and vice a versa, my worries are in part because I don't know how the MyQ devices talk to each other) but that's a lot more expensive. This is a cheap way to get make your home a smart one. But note that you need an additional purchase to make this Apple Homekit compatible! I don't use it or need it, but wanted to put that out there for your Apple folks.

    Missing One Key Feature

The Chamberlain MyQ is a pretty simple device really – it really isn’t much more than a glorified garage door opener. But, that’s like saying a smart phone isn’t much more than a glorified home phone. As a motorcycle rider, I was really hoping for built-in geo-fencing. As it is, and will likely remain, one must use IFTTT or Apple HomeKit. The IFTTT model requires a $10/month subscription and Apple HomeKit requires a 4th Gen AppleTV. By itself, the MyQ has an app to open, close and monitor your garage door remotely. Setup was pretty simple. Admittedly, I made it harder than it needed to be. There was a special set of instructions for iOS users, which were on a separate sheet. I was following the instructions in included pamphlet which were for Android. Not a big deal, just a little annoying. What I like is I can check if I left the door open or not. I don’t do it often, but being able to check without circling back to the house offers a peace of mind. I also like being able to open the garage door from anywhere – I don’t have to wait until my car is in range of the opener. The only reason why I’m knocking off a star is because it doesn’t offer geo-fencing. I’m sure there’s a security/liability that Chamberlain isn’t willing to accept and I can’t really blame them for that. At the same time, it would be great to not be dependent on an external service that would be a nice built-in feature.

If you have a lot of traffic in and out of your garage, this "Smart Garage" hub is a great addition to your garage door opener. Not only can you control the opening and closing of the door from your phone, you can also set up alerts so you get notifications when someone else opens or closes the door. It does have voice control integration with Google Home, but not, unfortunately, with Amazon Alexa. This system comes with a battery powered door sensor to tell when the door is open or closed. It can be mounted with screws or with velcro strips. The main unit then plugs in and mounts on the ceiling near your existing door opener. There aren't any physical connections between it and your opener--it just connects to your wifi network and also learns the codes to act as a remote controller for the opener. Once you install the MyQ app and set up an account, you can then configure the hub for your wifi network and teach it to work with your door opener. After that fairly quick installation and set up, you can start controlling the door via the MyQ app. If you happen to have a Wink hub like I do for other home automation things, the hub will integrate nicely with that. The Wink app displays an image of a garage door that you can swipe up or down to open and close, which is a pretty handy way to do it. When you close the door, the hub's light flashes and it makes a loud beeping noise for a few seconds before it closes the door. Overall, I see this as a great addition to my home automation systems. I only wish it worked with Alexa, but maybe that's a feature they'll add before too long.

    Easy setup glaring omissions

The Chamberlain MyQ Smart Garage Hub could be great. Could be except for a few major omissions. First the good. Setup for this unit is very easy and almost foolproof as long as you follow the directions. Make sure you have a 2.4 ghz router as it won't connect to the 5 ghz band. The sensor attaches to the garage door with Velcro strips or screws. I chose the Velcro and it seems to hold very well. Plugged in the hub and within 5 minutes I had it connected, app downloads and ready to connect to my opener. It found the right code on the first try and was operating in another couple of minutes. I easily set up alerts to let me know when the door was opened and closed at various times of the day or if it was inadvertently left open after the last car left in the mornings. So far so good. Then I found the major sticking points. First, there's no HomeKit support unless you buy an additional piece of hardware...for $70! Why make me buy yet another thing to enable what should be baked in?? So I could let that slide and count it as a slight nuisance to have to open the app separately from my Home app and not be able to use voice control. But then there's a bigger issue. When closing the door using the app, a really bright light flashes and an overly annoying siren beeps incessantly for several seconds before the door starts to move and continues until it's closed. There is no way to shut this off or even adjust the volume. I have a bedroom directly over the garage and you can clearly hear the siren blaring in there...as can the rest of the neighborhood. I understand that's likely a safety thing like the backup alarms on trucks and equipment but seriously it's terrible and will wake whoever is trying to sleep. Give me the option to at least take it down a few decibels! I'm thinking about trying to wrap the thing in some sort of sound deadening material but then I worry the signal won't pass through to my opener. Maybe there will be an update at some point to resolve that issue. Otherwise I don't think I'll get nearly the use out of it that I was hoping.
