Great smart option for an older garage door.

So I just purchased this little gem this afternoon and let me just say that I am impressed. It was so easy to set up. Took approximately 15 min from start to finish to get going and “voila” I am the proud owner of a smart garage door opener. My garage door is an older lift master (about 15 years old) And I’m not ready to replace it but I wanted the option of controlling from an app. It shows every time the door is opened, closed or stops and how long it is in each state. You can manage notifications and alerts and since it’s app based you can manage guest users too. I am so happy with this hub!

    In theory

In theory this is a good idea, however after setting up the opener ( which was pretty simple), I can't find a reason to use it. My garage door opener is built into my truck, and the other vehicle has the opener always on the visor. In practice Iv'e found it much faster to just push the button in the house or car rather then call on Siri or pull out my phone. Unless your have to have every single smart device there is I say skip this, as there are many more useful smart devices.

The My Q smart garage is a must have for me. I work about 48 miles from my home and I always forget if I closed my garage door or not . Since I installed this device I am always in the know of the status of my garage door. It was very easy to setup and install (took me about 15mins start to finish) and it actually worked the first time I tested it. I was also able to easily pair it with my xfinity home and can now open and close garage with the xfinity app. The My Q is well worth the 100 Bucks!

    Great Smart home device

Fantastic product but the fee to use google home integration is a rip off!! Personally I would prefer an in-car remote as an added benefit (similar to the amazon shopping buttons). Just click it without having to fumble on your phone or iwatch. But it gives you peace of mind knowing that your garage door is closed no matter where you are. And lets you open from anywhere.

I found the instructions very confusing and even contradictory between the printed instructions and the online instructions. I definitely spent more time configuring the MyQ than I did installing it. (Installation is simple: two screws for the base unit up on my garage ceiling, velcro strips on my garage door for the "clicker" component.) It took several attempts to get my device connected to the internet (and yes, you must create an account with Chamberlain and tie it into your email). Getting the MyQ device to discover my wifi was no problem. The challenge came with figuring out the instructions on how to get the device an IP address so that I could start using the app to pair it with my Genie garage door system. I really should give this product one-star based on the horrible instructions and my level of frustration, but once you finally power through the setup and configuration, it *should* do what it claims it will do: monitor your garage door status and allow you to open your garage door via smartphone. I managed to get the MyQ to OPEN my Genie 2042 (on the COMPATIBLE LIST--newer Genies after 2016 are not on the list) but not close my door. I re-ran the programming 3 times and gave up because I was primarily concerned with remote monitoring with the MyQ. Using the app to open/close was just going to be a bonus for me. I left the app in monitor mode and it has successfully kept track of the door status.

    Limited and buggy

I was looking forward to the MyQ Smart Garage Hub being a helpful addition to my smart home network. Sadly, not only it is not, but it is also unusable for my situation. The MyQ uses a wireless connection to your wifi network to allow app controlled monitoring and operation of your existing garage door opener. You download the app, plug up the hub, and follow the guided app instructions to establish connectivity. This brings me to my first problem. I used an Android device to attempt connectivity to the hub and my wireless network. It took several attempts to accomplish this. I received connection errors ranging from a "cannot locate a hub" message to "cannot connect". I am pretty tech savvy (software developer), but the overall experience was irritating at best. After I finally achieved connectivity, I had an extremely difficult time programming the unit to activate my door opener. After several attempts, I decided to search for more answers. Well, I discover my door openers are not compatible with the MyQ. Some would say, "Why write a review if that's the case?" Well, a universal device like this one should be compatible. The device must be installed very close to the door opener. Why not include a wired option to cover signals outside of your range? Isn't that a simple solution? Have an incompatible frequency? No problem. attach these 2 wires and you are set. It would be different if this was just built for Chamberlain door openers, but it is sold as a universal option. You have to read the box with purpose. The list is short too. The fact that the compatibility list is very limited, and the software was buggy, this is a very limited solution designed for specific use cases.

I purchased MyQ Garage openor this morning from BestBuy. It did not take me long to set it up. I really like it a lot. I wish I can control it from my Google home without subscription. I hope that Chamberlain will change this issue.

Great for using on older garage door systems; it was easy to install; just as FYI, most newer garage door openers will have this technology already; it is nice to have, especially if you don't have a keypad.

It is very easy to install. Just follow the instructions on the app. It took maybe 30 minutes to install. The hub picks up a strong wifi signal in my garage. I purchased on sale for $50 and for that price, it is (so far) well worth it.

Bought in mid 2020. Did fairly well until last week but unit asked for Login way too many times in the past 9 months. The door mini-remote evidently has gone defective after our diagnose. Customer service has been much less than expected quality and long times. This unit has too many points of failure and it keeps going off network with my home Wifi. No other devices having issues. I cannot recommend it. I asked if they have downloaded new software and tech support did not say yeh or nah. Something went south and we got locked out after bike rides.

    Profoundly Disappointed

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Our vehicle was stolen with our garage door remote inside. I hope this product would live up to its advertising. It was not even close. 1. You must use the MyQ app to access the door opener. From the beginning, the app was difficult to configure, often timing out or being non-responsive. Once we finally got the app installed, it worked, at best 75% of the time. We found ourselves sitting in the driveway waiting for the app to respond daily, either waiting for the door to open or to close. 2. False notifications. Either open or closed. the notifications could not be trusted. 3. A subscription fee to integrate with Google Home ! Are you kidding me? That is absolutely ridiculous. Insult atop of injury. Issues 1 was enough to aggravate, issue 2 sealed the deal for a return. Issue 3 was salt in the wound. TERRIBLE product. Especially given it should be part of a reliable home security system.

Subscription fee for basic automation connections

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It is easy to install and works. But if you want to connect it to anything, Google Assistant, Alexa, IFTTT, ect, then you have to pay a subscription fee. And not just one, you have to pay a separate fee for each service you want to connect it to. I can't recommend this product to anyone who currently has any home automation setup or might want any in the future becasue of this. If all you want is a garage door opener on your phone, it works good. But if you want to me able to do something like "OK Google, close my garage door" you have to pay.

BE CAREFUL HAS A MAJOR GLITCH

BE CAREFUL THE SOFWARE HAS SOME EXTREME LIMITATIONS. This was working great until my iphone got smashed and I had to get a new phone. Because the phone screen was broken and the phone had a e sim, it is not possible to disconnect the link. Chambberlin has been "working on" a solution for months now and have taken to igneoing me. Long story shot no link, no camera for months.

    Meh

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Installation instructions were just OK...there was some inconsistency between the minimal printed instructions in the package and the instructions presented in the app, but not too difficult to figure out. The biggest disappointment is the poor integration with Google Assistant. First off, this integration requires a fee of $1/month or $10/year. Nothing to break the bank, but an annoyance. If you want IFTT integration, that's another subscription fee. Secondly, commands are a somewhat awkward "Hey Google, Ask MyQ..." Would I recommend this product to a friend...yes, but I'd make sure that we understood the limitations

Lies doesn't work with all garage door openers...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Lies. It says it works with all garage door openers made after 1993, this is a lie. My brand new house has a garage door opener that it doesn't work with. When I called them they said Genie Garage door openers made after 2016 aren't compatible with this device. Why not disclose that upfront so that I don't waste money on the product and 2 hours of my life trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong. This company is hiding information and in my opinion being very deceitful. Instead of saying works with all garage door openers made after 1993 why not say here is a list of openers not compatible with our system. Even if it's 1 opener, disclose the truth. So if you have a Genie Garage door opener manufactured after 2016, don't expect this to work.

We are sorry to see that this product did not meet your expectations. The myQ Smart Garage Hub is compatible with most garage door opener brands manufactured after 1993. If your garage door opener has safety sensors, it is likely compatible. For Genie openers, it is compatible with ones manufactured after 1993, some needing your original remote to program and pair. We recommend that a new Hub manufactured from April 2019 to present is used for pairing if it is a newer operator manufactured from 2016 to present. We do have further information on compatibility with the Hub through this article link here:https://support.chamberlaingroup.com/s/article/List-of-compatible-garage-door-openers-for-MyQ-Garage-1484145635905 Should you have any questions, please email us at [email protected]. So if you think you are going to be able to open your garage door through voice commands with Google Home or Alexa, think again. This feature is explicitly prohibited by Chamberlain for security reasons. Also be prepared to pay an extra $10 / year to be able to do any voice commands with it - only supports asking if the door is open/closed and closing the door, but as mentioned above, not opening the door.
