Do not buy this EVER

I cant believe how terrible the software is. Im tech savy and had bo idea you need to stay on phone w DLink multiple times and do all this crazy trouble shooting because the firmware isnt right and the software apps are so glitchy. I could go on longer with everything else but just dont bother. Dlink still hasnt got home security ready yet

DCS-5222L Hard to Set-Up, Great Customer Service

He was able to walk me through the process and help me get this things working perfectly.

Losses connection

Good Camera, falls short of being great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this camera to augment/replace two 8 year-old Panasonic cameras that I use to monitor animals in a barn. The cameras are accessed by me, family, friends, and customers over both LAN and WAN. It’s a good camera with some less than ideal features and really poor documentation. The Pros: Good quality picture, much improved over the Panasonic camera. Easy LAN or WAN access via MyDlink. Ipad/Iphone app pretty good. Good access via browser using WAN/LAN once you set it all up (see below). Adequate sound. Wide field of view. Cons: 1) Directions in the box are totally inadequate. Basically says download the App and let it do it. When/if the set-up fails, you are stuck (see below). Fortunately, you can download a more detailed user guide that gives a bit more help. 2) Many people complain that they could never connect the camera to their router. Most likely this is because their router does not use the “198.XXX.XXX.X” IP network that is the default for the camera address (Comcast gateway routers, for instance, do not always use this). Fortunately, I learned about this while setting up another device and knew how to change the camera’s default IP address. Once this was done, set-up was easy. It would have been easy and save a lot of stress and returns to include this in the directions, as my other device did. 3) Pan/Tilt operations are only available for the admin. I understand the reasoning, but it would be nice to have the option to give other users this ability. 4) There doesn’t appear to be any option to click on a location on the web interface’s video stream and have the camera PAN/TILT to that location. Similarly, there does not appear to be any option to zoom via the mouse wheel. The Panasonics do both of these well. It’s intuitive and easier than clicking on tools. 4) There is no “guest” option, ie login with neither username or password. My Panasonic cameras are accessed freely by potential customers with no need to know a username. The Dlink camera requires at least a username. 5) Panasonic provides DDNS domains for free. Dlink only provides one for free. Seems like a disincentive to buy more cameras. 6) The Panasonic browser interface allows viewing multiple cameras on one browser page. Dlink only seems to allow viewing one at a time (maybe MyDlink allows more, but that’s limited to me). 7) Directions about port forwarding (only discussed in the downloaded user guide, not in the box literature) are poor and too specific to a specific DLink router. A simple paragraph discussing this essential topic in a more generic sense would have been easy to include and, again, would have saved a lot of stress for people needing/wanting access via something other than MyDlink. 8) Extremely annoying that Internet Explorer and, more generically, Windows 10 block execution of Dlink apps and plugins. This is fixable for the plugins but I haven’t yet figured out how to fix this for apps. This is an issue with the certificates, and both Dlink and Microsoft really need to play nice and fix this problem.

Relatively easy and works
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Camera covers my kitchen and doors. It works OK for a $ 160 security system. The software is a bit slow, but it works for what I needed. I like that I can log in remotely with no monthly monitoring fees.
