Customers are pleased with the excellent camera quality, ease of use, and the pan and tilt features of the High-Definition Pan and Tilt Wi-Fi Video Security Camera. Many also appreciate the night vision and motion detection capabilities. However, some users experienced difficulties with the setup process and software, while others reported issues with Wi-Fi connectivity and overall reliability. Great camera, Bad APP
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good - The camera setup was very easy. The picture quality is great. Bad - The app to use the camera is poor. Majority of the time I could not connect to the camera. Even while home and connected to the same wi-fi network the app will fail to connect camera view. Also, once connected and trying to move the camera view there is a long delay between the app and the camera moving. The sound randomly echos on the app.

Good compromise between home and pro grade quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me first say this review is about DCS-5222LB1 (note those last 3 digits as they make this a camera a DISTINCTLY different model and documentation about this unit is different from the other models). I am an IT professional so I did not use any wizards to program, I went straight to IP address. It is a little complicated to get all of the many features programmed and tweaked to your liking but it is nice to have all of the features. The thing I like most is the ability to operate the camera completely on your own without having to subscribe to a cloud service for remote monitoring. Granted this takes some IT networking knowledge but it is worth the hassle. Lastly, those you say they cannot get the camera to Pan/Tilt must have defective units. The Pan/tilt while jerky, does work.

Nice camera but very difficult to set up.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just purchased the camera and it appears to be very functional but spent several hours trying to set up. Final contacted D-Link Customers Service who were very helpful. Spent roughly 2 hours on the phone before we finally complete the set up process. The rep was very patient and helpful. Just OK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The DLink DCS-5222L is about 2.5 stars but I couldn't give it three. I purchased this for an office environment (small space - multi room). I liked the idea of the Pan & Tilt control. I already owned a Dropcam pro for my house (which I love by the way) but it does not have the PTZ feature so I thought I would give it a try on an impulse buy. Set up was fairly simple and was done in about 10 minutes; that is, until I went to open the web app (create my account on MyDlink). Using both Chrome and IE I had to install the latest versions of JAVA and Active X. The Active X install went well but I had to jump through hoops in Chrome to the get the JAVA plugin to take. Also had to "always allow" the Java Plugin in chrome://plugins/ . Here comes the "lack of stars" part. The interface is very sloppy, very slow and somewhat frustrating. There are two places to adjust the settings of your camera; "Settings" (fairly useless) and "Advanced Settings" (quite promising but very buggy and not very intuitive). In addition, choosing advanced settings take you to a new browser window served up by the camera itself (which I discovered can also be accessed directly by entering the ip of the camera into your browser) Here, there are may settings you can access including adjusting the brightness, contrast, recording schedule, light flicker, lens distortion correction, etc. This is also where you can enter your email relay information, though I have yet to get that to work properly and there is no "test" feature to let you know it is set up properly. After tinkering for an hour or so, I got (or thought I got) the settings the way I wanted them. Honestly, I'm not sure if the settings transfer through to all interfaces. I was able to access the cam through the Android app but panning and tilting is all but useless (control is had by dragging your finger across the screen and it is NOT accurate and takes far to many attempts to get the camera where you want it). Also, there is a feature in advanced settings where you can create predetermined locations (for the camera to point to) and then combine them into a routine. Effectively you should be able to put your camera "on patrol" by choosing "auto pan" but I have not been able to get this feature to work in any reliable way. In fact it reacts differently in all three control interfaces I have used (IE, Chrome and Android). This review is getting long so I am going to throw a few bullet points in for pros and cons and call it a day. Pros: 1. Does provide remote access 2. Night vision (see cons below). 3. Wide field of view 4. Includes Micro SD slot for recording video 4. Can be mounted multiple ways (though you will need to access the "advanced settings" to flip the pict for ceiling mount) 5. Two way Comm (though I believe you have to attach speakers but not sure yet as I have not tested this. I can hear sound while monitoring remotely) 6. Can record by motion detected OR by schedule (see below) 7. Can set up a"hot area" or a "mask" for detecting motion or ignoring/not recording a part of the picture. 8. A lot of features for the $$ (if you can find them all). Cons: 1. Software is not well written and will likely be confusing. Applying settings is hit or miss and there is little feedback if a parameter is incorrect. Buggy. 2. No way to "Record" on demand (i.e. push a button to begin recording from either a remote location or onsite). 3. Picture is marginal at best. From 10' away, I could barely make out my own face. While there are some tweaks to be made in "advanced settings", the picture quality is simply sub-par (at least compared to my Dropcam Pro). Night vision is just ok. Also, it is very sensitive to light meaning that incandescent lighting causes harsh blowout areas on the picture and back lighting all but renders faces between the back lighting and the camera as blacked out. 4. Phone apps do not have HD (480 is the highest on the Android app). 5. No option (that I am aware of nor have I found yet) to record to the cloud. So if someone walks up to the camera and takes it with them (or just takes the SD card, you have NOTHING. 6. The scheduling is not nearly robust enough and you can't have both a "scheduled recording" and "record when motion detected" enabled at the same time. It's one or the other. 7. No IFTTT integration. 8. No notifications (that I have found) for your phone (so if there is motion and IF the email notifications work, you might get notified of motion by email but not by notification on your phone. There is a "push Notifications" within the app but there are no configurations whatsoever and I don't know what it does (yet). In conclusion, There are just too many draw backs to recommend this product. I want to like it as it has potential but frankly, the DropCam pro for a few bucks more, is a far superior product in every way. Keep in mind, cloud storage for dropcam is expensive but it works flawlessly and is very reliable. Hope this helps someone in their purchasing decisions.
