The machine runs with no issue and preforms with a fast response time and with great graphics. I use it to play Runescape set to high performance specifications and found the Dell to keep up with no problems.

As far as I have seen this laptop is great. WIth a powerful pair in cpu and gpu and a nice ssd. The only thing i dont like is that dell neglects to add some option to control fan speed. Apart from that its great.

Good gaming laptop but has issues

I bought this laptop earlier this week, and so far, it is a good system for gaming. I am able to play games on high-very high settings and it loads very quickly. Pros: - Boots up, downloads, searches, and runs very quickly - Graphics are top-notch (for someone who has been using an outdated system for years) - I have not noticed much, if any, input lag - Fans are quiet, even when running games - Audio quality is nice and allows me to break my eardrums with the volume, if I desire However, MY system seems to have a couple problems: first one being that when I install games, the system restarts giving me an error code for DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION, which I have never seen before. Obviously, with this being a brand new system, this is a big problem. My second problem I've noticed is roughly every 30 minutes or so, the audio will crackle and the entire system freezes for a second or two. This crackle sound will also happen more often than not when I start or unpause a Youtube video. Aside from this, I have a few personal gripes with the machine: - The backlit keyboard makes keys very hard to see if you are not viewing from high up enough. - There seem to be very few built-in customizable options in the power settings . - The laptop seems to run pretty hot just from the packaged charger being plugged in. If I am able to exchange the laptop for one that does not have the restarting and crackling issues, I will happily change my rating to a five-star because of the pros mentioned above. If they persist into a new machine, I'll be displeased, but will just deal with it because I enjoy the rest of the laptop.

      TimmTomm,

Thanks for your review. We're glad to hear that you are mostly pleased with the performance of your new gaming laptop. If you'd like to check to see if there are any audio driver updates you can visit your product page here: https://dell.to/2JoGytX.

If your computer continues to freeze you can try these steps:

      1. Run a Computer Diagnostic. To determine if your computer is experiencing a hardware problem, run the Dell Preboot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics. For information on how to run Diagnostics, and to determine the issue, refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2iaiujA.
      2. Check Safe Mode for Symptoms. To boot into safe mode, please follow the instructions below:
      a) Start the computer.
      b) Tap 'F8' on the keyboard immediately and every one second until the Dell logo screen disappears. From there you will see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen. (If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, restart the system and try again.)
      c) Select Safe mode with Networking and press Enter.
      d) Log on as the administrator or as a user with administrative access.
      e) Open applications and test the computer in safe mode. If the symptoms exist in safe mode, please continue the troubleshooting steps in this article. If the symptoms do not exist in safe mode, the issue is likely related to a driver or software and you may wish to complete step 3 to see if you are able to resolve the lockups or freezing.
      3. Check for Malware. Malware (Virus, Spyware, etc.) can definitely cause a Windows system to lock up or appear to hang. To check for malware on your system and to ensure that your computer is up to date on security software, visit Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2wWP1zI.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tW5m33.

Lastly, if you'd like to see if your computer can operate at a cooler temperature, you can try these tips:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

Love this 9th Generation Intel i7

This has made my video editing so much smoother and flawless. Was looking for a new computer with touch screen and at least 8th gen i7. This was the only one sporting the new 9th generation at the time I was looking at Best Buy's offerings. I love the look of the screen, bright vivid colors and it's blazing fast. Not a gamer but for photo editing and video editing it shines. The only problem I've had with it is Bluetooth connectivity at times. Searched for answers and found it might be a windows problem, not Dell. Not overly important to me so I can let that go. (Bluetooth works fine, but would just disconnect at times and couldn't get it back without restarting the computer).

This computer can handle everything I throw at it. I use it for writing which doesn't require a lot of computing power but I can have dozens of active windows without any lag. I'm very happy with the storage capacity. It does have an issue with the graphics card that people should know about. It sends a signal to the motherboard that says it's overheating and the system shuts down to protect itself and possibly the immediate environment. Best Buy made me whole, thank you, but they should have warned me before I bought it.

I really like it. I have never had a Dell computer before and I’m glad I bought it. It’s fast I’m mainly using it for CAD, SketchUp, Photoshop.. etc. I love the screen size and the full size keyboard. The keys light up blue (my favorite color). I don’t mind that is heavy. The battery life is about 4-6 hours. I don’t mind that at all. Overall is a 5 star for me!

I replaced my Alienware 17 R3 with this Dell G5 5590 and I have no regrets! Amazing performance. It easily tears through tough to run games too. I recommend uninstalling Smartbyte and the drivers from the apps settings, it seriously cripples your internet speed even though it has good intentions on managing your bandwidth. Also uninstall some of the Dell bloatware minus the update applications and such. I noticed a huge performance boost even with easy tasks by uninstalling bloatware. Currently running Doom Eternal, Scum, ESO, GTA V, Halo MCC, Witcher 3, just loving it!

I really like the speed of my new laptop. It's much faster than my Samsung laptop that had an 8 year old i7 core processor. I am using this as a video editing computer. I've had it freeze up one time since I've had it for about a month now. That was when I was asking it to do quite a bit while editing. I haven't had that issue arise again since then. I updated a lot of the drivers and everything I could find and I think that helped a lot.

Excellent computer. Great battery life, even when using multiple application and online. Has nice screen, good key boards which lights upt, multiple usb ports, hdmi connection and wireless keyboard and mouse options. It does have compatibility issues with some external monitors, such as the brand I got first which is Sceptre, but neither their website, nor Dell will tell you this up front, which is annoying

Although it's a gaming PC I use it for Photo editing, combined with my 27" 1440P Monitor. You can't go wrong with the G5 because you get a lot of bang for the buck. If your going to use it like me your going to want to get a Universal docking station so you have the option of having a desktop type setup with the versatility of a laptop you can take with you upon travel. Since it is a gaming laptop it is not the super slim and trim and it does have a little weight. Battery life is 5 hrs but it is significantly less money than the others in it's category.

This laptop performs ok. However, it has already crashed on me several times in the short month I’ve had it. It might just be that the software and BIOS hasn’t updated. Seems like it’s been updating since I got. For a 9th Gen i7, and an SSD for the primary drive, the programs don’t open as quickly as I would expect. I like the blue backlit keyboard. Plenty of USB ports unlike some other laptops I’ve seen. The additional 1TB drive is a great plus.
