This computer is pretty great, it is solid, it works well, I don't see a lot of lag in the computer, the only thing I do not like is the Windows 8.1, but that will be updated later this month. It is very light, I even like the responsiveness of the touch pad and the screen is very clear. The touchscreen is nice! There is nothing that I dislike about the computer, the computer holds an excellent charge, I am glad I found the computer at such a great price!

Ordered first day windows 10 was available pre-installed. When I got home was 8.1 installed. So spent several days waiting for 10 to be available to download and then several hours for 10 to download and install. less than 8 days after 10 installed, computer has locked me out (incorrect password) Called Dell support and only fix is to reinstall 10. This is a know issue.
If I had rate the computer before this issue, I probably would have given it 3 stars to 3.5 stars. I like the slim profile of the laptop, but was only moderately happy with speed of computer (6gb memory). Seemed a little slow to for latest generation processor, when launching a new task or trying to open files. Internet speed also seemed to be slower than other devices on same connection.
PROS- slim design, like the lighted keyboard and touch screen. Fair price ((579).
CONS- no direct either net connection available and wifi seemed slower than it should have been. Having to install windows 10 when it was ordered with windows supposed to be pre-installed.
Windows 10 lock out glitch.

OK I bought on 6/27/15, had shipped to house, unit was DOA. Best Buy replaced the unit in store, thank you BB. Now to the Dell part. Replacement unit, after 100 Gb of download/installs (including Visual Studio 2015) system goes south and restores self wiping out most everything. Items from Dell store will not reload, etc. OK next, there is a quarter inch dead space (frame) of screen between edge of picture and non-screen frame. Desktops normally can overscan to fix this, Dell says this is normal and there is nothing that can make full use of the screen, so wasted space. It has been awhile since I purchased a LT so I don't know if this is now normal. Manual for laptop, none, there is alink on Dell support for a manual, points to never never land. The installed McAfee antivirus, my desktop found 3 malwares in today's email, McAfee missed all 3, bye bye McAfee. I can go on and on but I have wasted more time on this laptop than the laptop cost. FYI to upgrade dram/disk requires removal of entire base, not just some panel on the base, phone/tablet disassemble tools are recommended for this.
I can get into tech details but that in more than most want. I did not want/purchase a gaming machine. I wanted a unit for field use. The number/quantity of minutia details are frustrating. Much of it is in Dell's diagnostic/help apps and the fix apps.
I have nothing but praise for Best Buy, I can not say the same for Dell. I swore I would never buy a Dell again (long history) but the specs looked to good to pass up..... Dell is not the Dell of the 1990s.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am with this laptop. I bought it to do my podcast and for occasional freelance web development. What attracted me was the Full HD screen, touch screen, hard drive size, backlit keyboard and especially the fact that it was a 5th generation i5. However, what I got was a slower laptop than the 3 year old Toshiba it replaces. The fan blows constantly on it, even when on battery power, and I can't use Chrome without it slowing to a halt. Audacity, my audio editor, constantly gets "Not Responding" after every action, magnification or change of position in the file. I made sure Windows 8.1 was fully updated, but that didn't help. I added a 16GB USB micro-sized thumb drive for ReadyBoost, but that didn't help much (but it did help the old Toshiba). I even went to the extreme of upgrading it to Windows 10 Developer Preview, but that was slow, too. I had intended to add DDR3 memory which Crucial said works, but when I finally opened it up (which took several attempts to get all of the screws off from the bottom of the laptop), it only takes DDR3L memory, so the 8GB DDR3 memory stick I had wouldn't work. I was going to go forward and add the DDR3L memory... but I've only had the thing since Saturday and I think I would rather exchange it for something else at this point. There's no guarantee the memory would completely fix ALL of my problems, and I think I would just be better off with another model. Back in 2010, I had a Dell Precision M6500 at work, and it was the worst computer I've ever had. It did many of the same things this laptop is doing. My current work computer is a Dell Precision M6800, and it's the best laptop I've ever had, so much so that it restored my faith in Dell to the point I purchased one. I had problems with my Toshiba (rebooting), but I may end up going back to them, or go with Asus, Lenovo, or even HP, but I think I'll stay away from this batch of Dells. Stay away from this laptop, at least until Dell has some updates.

Laptop works great for normal usage needs. Easy to set up and not too much bloatware. Upgraded to windows 10 no problem. Recommend trying keyboard before if possible. Thin and nice screen.

I have had to do 2 factory resets on this laptop. The screen will shut off at start about once a week... I can here the startup but the screen stays blank.. I then have to restart to get it to turn back on. Three times now the keyboard has gone unresponsive, and there again when I restart it works fine. It is very bogged down there are times when the only thing I have running is Netflix and it cant keep up with that. I don't know if it gets to hot or what. An dell support has been horrible. They just keep having me do factory resets. I have an 8 year old Toshiba with Vista that is faster than this.

I got this laptop from the store for 579 when it was 100 bucks off. Am surprised to c that the price has now been raised back. I already think I paid too much though kinda happy now that i didn't waste another 100 buck on this. .. No doubt the looks are pretty decent. . But that's it.. The computer runs pathetically slow. Cannot handle win8.1.. I was double minded between this and the Toshiba 14inch laptop which has similar specs.. Went with this one simply for a better price.
Please think twice before taking the plunge. Don't go just for the looks is my suggestion... If u still wanna get it suggest do wait for the price to go down or some kind of offer to come again. For 679 better laptop can be bought.
