My thoughts and experience with Dell Inspiron 7605

Very good looking laptop. The aluminum unibody makes it standout. The specs with Windows 11 running has been a breeze. I have only experienced a system crash only once and this was due to running RAM intensive applications. Overall it has been a good experience. However, it gets extremely hot due to the aluminum unibody, to the extent that I can't use it on my lap. The aluminum unibody is prone to dents and I am not sure it will stand the test of time. The battery charging rate is extremely slow and under my current use the battery doesn't last more than 4hrs. I really like the look and feel of the laptop, but the aforementioned shortcomings will make it had for me to recommend this laptop to people that are into graphics, programming or require intensive computation power.

      Hi Cybertron,

Thank you very much for your valued feedback. We are glad you like some of the features of your Dell Inspiron 7506 laptop but we are sorry to hear that you are not 100% satisfied with this computer because it overheats easily and the battery does not perform as you expected.
To help with overheating issue, we would recommend making sure the BIOS is up to date on your PC. I have provided a link to the Drivers and Downloads page so you can check for and do any applicable updates. Dell has also released an Intel Power Management Utility to help with the overheating that you may be experiencing on your computer. For this package to take effect, the system power plan must be set to Balanced under the Additional Power Settings. Also, the Power Mode option that is displayed when you click the battery icon, should be set to Better Performance. This package only takes effect on AC power and not on battery power. The Intel Power Management Utility can be found here - http://dell.to/3tStRgX.

      Drivers and Downloads Page: https://dell.to/3tLUgxV

To help with battery performance, we recommend changing the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built-in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn the Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings are available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

    Super fast but super buggy

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

On paper, I loved this laptop. It's beautiful, fast as lighting, and does everything I needed it to do and more. But I ended up returning it because in the two weeks I had it, it blue screened five times while doing normal, non-demanding tasks. I also had issues with the audio three days in a row where no sound would play but harsh screeching - each day I had to uninstall my audio drivers and restart to fix the problem. Additionally, the screen itself would make a very faint static noise whenever anything moved. I've read that this can be caused by faulty wiring or certain elements being installed too close to each other. In any case, it was barely noticeable unless my room was silent, but it still troubled me. Basically, if these small software issues don't bother you, or if you trust that future updates will fix the bugs, go for it. But if I'm dropping 1600 bucks on a brand new laptop, I expect top-notch performance, not the type of issues I find on my cheap five-year old computer.

    DO NOT BUY! Truly terrible.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this laptop in July and was having problems within a month. It came with windows 10, and it was an absolute nightmare. I had problems with the camera, face ID, screen glitching, freezing, wifi issues, volume controls not working, button falling off the pen, general bugs with windows 10 and 11, battery, keyboard, trackpad, fingerprint reader, and so, so much more. In only a few months. I read some of the reviews, and figured others just got bad ones. But no, all are terrible. Please, PLEASE do not buy. I updated to windows 11, and that fixed some issues, but not all. And it caused more. I got a best buy warranty when I bought the computer, and when the battery and trackpad completely stopped working after 4 months, they replaced both. The battery life has increased from one hour to four. Still terrible, but more usable. The new trackpad now scrolls and clicks, but I can't highlight or drag and drop. Now The bottom left keys on my keyboard only work a third of the time. Most recently, I couldn't do anything online. I mean, nothing. I went to best buy, and they told me to pay $200 to replace windows completely. I said that was ridiculous and went home. I called Dell support, who are usually terrible, but they ran a bunch of tests, and it's now fixed. For now. I have no hope and am looking for a new computer. Just don't buy it. Even if it had no problems, it wouldn't be great. The keyboard is pretty annoying, it ways way too much to be a good portable laptop, and the battery is just bad. A 2014 macbook air works better than this computer, and it costs a sixth of the price. Buy anything else. This should be taken off the market PERMANENTLY.

Generally decent laptop in terms of the chassis and features. On paper the specs are attractive, so I recommended it to a friend when it was on sale a week ago. Unfortunately, only a couple of days after purchase it developed a penchant for freezing at random intervals: sometimes it would fail to wake from sleep, other times freezing while working in various apps, and lastly freezing while sitting idle on the desktop. Plugged in or on battery made no difference. Each freeze would occur without any sort of explanation or error message, and we would have to restart the laptop each time. Very annoying. I went through all of Dell's online troubleshooting guides as well as the various Dell programs for obtaining system updates, drivers, hardware scans, etc; the freezing persisted. Finally, I attempted to do a factory restore of Windows per the final step of Dell's guide. The factory restore process has also seemingly failed; I get as far as the step to begin setting up Windows 10, but now the laptop is stuck in an endless cycle of booting to the Dell logo and restarting. Suffice to say, we'll be making a trip to our local Best Buy tomorrow.

So far so good. No problems with this new laptop. I was primarily worried that it might get hot and the fans would be noisy, but while there is some fan noise it is not bad, especially for light office work. So I am very happy with it so far.

Sound sucks, screen distorted, mice won't work!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am SERIOUSLY disappointed in this laptop! My last 2 laptops have been Dells and I replaced my last one with this one. What a waste of $2k! The headphone jack is on the right side which interferes with the mouse when trying to work, and I'm a sound engineer, so I NEED headphones to work. The sound coming out of it has an echo which also transfers into the headphones so I can't even tell how it actually sounds. It has trouble recognizing mice, the screen is squashed and stretched even though it's the same size as my last computer, it doesn't even load and play games as well as my old one, and the whole thing is beyond frustrating. The only reason I'm even replacing my other one is because the power jack is loose and that interferes with the sound when the cord wiggles a little. My livelihood is based on sound, so I was hoping that getting another, presumably better version of the same kind of computer would be great. Wrong. I am so upset and I would suggest that no one else waste a fortune on this!

      Hello,

Thank you for your feedback and review. We apologize for the trouble you came across with your Inspiron. Below are steps that can help with overheating in the future.

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

I got a Dell Inspiron 7000, and within a just 1 week, it broke. The laptop would shutdown and turn off while in use even when the battery was high. And if you tried turning it back on, it wouldn't for a few minutes. Also, when using the finger-print scanner, at some points, it wouldn't work, and I would have to log in with the password, which may seem like a minor set back, but the computer was made for productivity and diligence, so you would expect more from it. Although you may have a great screen size and resolution, the laptop lacks lots of specs that will let you use it. It's not the first time that I've gotten crappy items from Best Buy. And the crappy item was a Samsung Tablet I bought.

Bought this in January 2021 and it's had several issues. It reboots and updates whenever it decides without warning. This can take a very long time. Hope you don't actually NEED it during that time. Headphone input doesn't work at all and needs to be fixed. Mousepad really only works on left side. The middle and right area only work about 20% of the time. I used to leave my HP on its side sitting next to my bed. Whenever I leave this in any other position other than completely flat, it messes up the screen. You have to put it in tablet mode at least once if not twice for the content to be shown normally. If not, the content could be upside down or displaying in tablet mode length side while in the computer display. Fingerprint security NEVER works. Reading other reviews I'm seeing that I am not the only one with this issue. I didn't get a lemon. Dell released a crappy product fully aware of the crap quality and is charging over $1,500 for it. I will NEVER buy a Dell again.

The only reason I am giving this one start is because I can’t give it no stars and still enter the review. Purchased the product in February. Within 2 weeks, the motherboard went out and had to be replaced by Dell. Earlier this month, the audio jack went out and had to replaced by Dell. Just this week, the motherboard went out again and you guessed it, Dell is having to send a tech out to replace it. I asked Dell for a replacement laptop and they recommended I speak with Best Buy since that is where I purchased it. I guess it does not matter that it is their product (Dell). I do not recommend this product. Thankfully Dell does not make cell phones or I would be be able to write this review.

Mine keeps having a blue screen of death every 2 days. Something to do with memory. After trying everything expending memory and all, I went online and find out that this is a common problem with dell laptops that has been going on for years. some people says they fix the problem by reverting their bios to a previous version which does not work for me. other says that they sent their computer to Dell for repairs couple of time they lost all their data doing so but the problem still persists. Needless to say that this is the last time I buy any dell product. I am already saving for another one I don't want to deal with the headache. total waste of money

My mom financed me one of these for school from the reccomendation of someone that works at Best Buy. This laptop not only runs slower than my old laptop from 2016, but I opened the laptop yesterday to get some work done an it just... wouldn't turn on. No lights or anything. Just a black screen. It has been plugged in so the battery most definitely is not dead. So not even 2 weeks into the semester I need to figure out the return/exchange policy. Thanks for the trash :) Also, the touchscreen barely works and forget about even trying to use the stylus that it comes with or god forbid, trying a dual monitor setup.

      Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and response. We are extremely sorry to hear about your experience with your laptop not turning on and we would like to assist you as soon as possible. Below are steps that can assist with troubleshooting your startup issue.

Here are the recommended steps for troubleshooting this issue:
      1. If the computer is displaying the Dell logo and does not move past that point, it has probably failed POST.
      2. If the power indicator lights up and it is amber or orange, this is usually an indicator that it has failed POST.
      3. If you see text on a black screen, the computer is currently performing the POST. If the computer stays in that condition and does not move past it, it has probably failed POST.
      4. If the video screen displayed anything at all during the startup process but is now black, this probably indicates that the computer failed POST.
      5. If the computer is beeping or if Caps/Num/Scroll Locks are flashing, note if there is a particular pattern in which it beeps or flashes.
      6. If the computer is not beeping and caps/num/scroll locks are not flashing, unplug all connections and remove all media communication devices (e.g. external monitors); reconnect one at a time and check if the computer functions.

PURE CRAP. Not the Dell it used to be. Dell has replaced the Monitor, motherboard, speakers and now the mouse pad. Dell refused from the start to replace the unit. They dragged out the time to go past a month for replacement and game it in their favor. On the plus side, their 24/7 Technical Help is there to help you deal with the problems that plague the unit. Politeness to the highest degree and very sorry for the problem !!

Purchased late December 2020. Nice laptop but...Blue screen appears almost weekly. I've tried nearly everything. Dell support was unresponsive. Plus, I'm not spending hours with a "support" person when there should be a firmware solution by now. Also keyboard layout and backlighting is not very good. I'm already looking for another computer. Wish I could return it. This is my second and last Dell.

      Hey there Abrianbaker,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We apologize for the issues you have come across with your Dell Inspiron 7000 Laptop in regards to the camera, touchpad, and blue screen crashes.

Below, I have provided some steps you can take that should help with these issues.

      Issues with your laptop touchpad:

Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three-finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotation, and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:

      1. In the Search box, type main.cpl.
      2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs.
      3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
      4. Touch or click on the picture on the touchpad.
      5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option).
      6. Change the options as preferred.
      7. Touch or click Save.
      8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
      9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window.
      10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to the Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2tqmS02.

Additionally, here are some ways to troubleshoot issues if you are encountering Blue Screen Crashes:

      1. At the desktop, click the Search the web and Windows box and type "problem reports".
      2. Select View all problem reports to view a list of errors that have occurred on your computer and possible solutions for them, such as updating drivers, flashing your system BIOS, or checking for updates to the software.
      3. Under the Source column, look for Windows and under Summary, look for Shut down unexpectedly.
      4. Right-click the line item and select Check for a solution.

We'd also suggest checking to make sure that your software and drivers are up to date on Dell's Product Page - Drivers and Downloads Page: https://dell.to/3tLUgxV

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2u98Cct.
