Owned for 8 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.It's true - nobody beats the Dyson sucking power... but the downside is that we can't use this vacuum on certain carpets because it's glued to the carpet with suction. That same suction makes it hard to use the hose/wand attachment for reaching high places - the hose is constantly getting pulled back. We liked our previous Dyson where the handle and cleaning head were separate from the ball, but this new design makes for a heavy vacuum for carrying around the house, up and down stairs, etc. We've only had the vacuum for ~6-9 months and we're already thinking about a replacement.

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.
With regard to the hose, I can confirm that we would essentially expect the hose to become more flexible with time and use. A few tips we can provide would be attaching your accessories directly to your hose, as this will also help expedite stretching the elasticity of the hose. Dyson vacuums are engineered with versatility in mind and attachments may be used on either the wand or directly on the machine itself for added convenience. Also, when stretching the hose out we would recommend starting by stretching the part of the hose that is nearest to the vacuum first when extending this part to clean your home. We would actually recommend checking to ensure the wand is not obstructed and that the hose is not sucking into itself as the hose is not something we would expect to be an issue during use.

With regard to the brush bar, when the vacuum is powered on and reclined, you can disable the brush bar, by pressing the brush bar power button. We do always recommend as well, checking with your carpeting manufacturer to see if they have any specific guidelines regarding suction power and/or the use of a brush bar.

It picks up so much dust and dirt that when I carpet clean afterwards the water barely gets dark anymore, really is quite something. It also feels very high quality.

I have had no issues with it, but I have peace of mind because I don't have to worry of it breaks down because I have great insurance on it through best buy. If it breaks down I just have to take it in and they will replace it on the spot.

Great product just not for carpets

However this one has a major design flaw, and that is this will not work well if at all with thicker pile carpets. I bought a new home and I have fully carpeted bedrooms, unfortunately the suction is so strong that this product sticks to the carpet and cannot be moved, and there is no way to adjust the power of the cleaner or is there a provision for a diverter. Item returned as it could not work on the carpet. I replaced with a shark that had an adjustable diverter that reduces the suction at the head.

I've always heard they are the elite of vacuums so I was excited! We do have the Dyson cordless vac for wood floors and enjoy it, so I thought I was going to bring home the best machine EVER. I did the work.. I researched like crazy. I started to become concerned because for every 2 raving reviews, there would be 1 TERRIBLE review. But for years, all I've heard is Dyson, Dyson, Dyson. So I thought, I'll hopefully be one of the positive reviews. Well, I've had it for less than an hour and nope. :( At first, I thought it was awesome. I started on 2 area rugs and a little of my hardwoods. I then moved to carpet and almost fell over the thing because the brush stopped and the carpet just stuck in place. I read so many reviews about how the vacuum was hard to push or it would barely move on carpet. I just assumed they had dense and plush carpet. Nope. I also made sure the machine says it works on carpet.. yep, it does say that. Ok, so I thought maybe it is just this one rug (made from carpet). I took it to our upstairs where it is installed carpet. Turned it on, ensured brush roll was on, and NOTHING. As all the reviews say.. they need to add some type of height adjustment so some air can flow so the thing moves. What good is the best suction in the market if the thing doesn't move at all. So... This is going back tomorrow and I'm going to pull out more cash to invest in a Miele. The reviews for it seem a lot stronger so I'm hopeful. I wouldn't recommend this Dyson.

Best vacuum on the market

Not good for medium to high pile carpet

Pun intended! This thing has no way to adjust the head for high pile carpet. Its suction, that Dyson boasts about, is actually true, however, sucks it down to the carpet to the point that you can't move it. I am very disappointed with this. If you try to force it to move once it sucks down to the carpet you can potentially snap the handle off! I don't like this vacuum.

It works well, and cleans nicely. My wife really likes it. When she broke our older model (many years old), we didn't want any other vacuum, so we purchased another.

Posted .Hello there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've experienced an odor issue with your Dyson Ball Animal 2. Instances may sometimes occur when the filter on the vacuum may catch a smell of what is being vacuumed. Sometimes smells can occur if the filter is left wet or damp and put back into the vacuum too soon. In the event of a smell occurring in the unit, I would advise the following steps:
1. Soaking and then washing the filter. You will want to soak the filter for 30 minutes. After the filter has been soaking you will then want to wash it as normal.
2. Place a dryer sheet inside of the clean bin. You will want to open the clear bin as if you just emptied the trash inside. After the bin is open you will then want to place your dryer sheet inside of the bin and close the lid. After the lid has been closed you will then want to run the vacuum for at least 60 seconds. After these steps have been completed, you will then want to remove the dryer sheet and continue using the vacuum as normal.

Awesome Vaccuum not as convenient for stairs

The ONLY complaint is I was the hose was longer and it was easier to vaccuum stairs. I ultimately bought a different handheld vaccuum specifically for the stairs.
