Poor design, gets stuck all the time

I should have dug deeper as this vacuum has serious issues. The design makes it so it gets stuck to rugs and some floors. Since there is no real space in the front to allow air flow in like other vacuums have it just gets stuck. If you search for Dyson Animal Hard To Push you will find lots of other people having this issue. It also make sit so the vacuum just pushes things around on the floor, there is not even enough clearance around the bottom to pick up cereal or other things you would normally just vacuum up.

It doesn’t actually suck things up unless it’s perfectly flat, and even then struggles to clean up messes. I usually have to manually sweep a pile of dirt up and run over it several times before the pile disappears.

Got it home and assembled it (noting the handle and hoses are plastic and a bit flimsy compared to my 10+ yr old DC14), and tried to run it in the bedroom. The suction wont allow you to push the vacuum. At first I thought I assembled something incorrectly, or there was a height adjustment, or something that would make the 500 dollar vacuum work. Dyson support was closed for the weekend, so I looked on the web - apparently this is a common problem and there are all sorts of "fixes" out there - drill holes in the beater unit, peel off the rubber seal to reduce suction. leave the bottom plate off, etc. All seemed a bit silly, I still assumed there was some sort of adjustment that I was over looking. Called Dyson support today (Monday) and was told that the unit was not compatible with my carpet (apparently any carpet since we tried it in several places) and there was nothing they could do about it. Long story short - taking it back. I think it has to do with the auto-adjust head that basically is some thin rubber to float the bottom of the head unit, it's just not sturdy enough to keep it off the carpet and let some air be drawn in. Running on a rug is similar to putting your hand over the hose no air gets in, period. Works OK on hardwood, would maybe be usable on commercial type carpeting, but anything thicker than that no way. Really disappointed, have been a big Dyson fan, but this is a ridiculous problem.

The Dyson Ball series, as well as most of our vacuums, are designed to work on most common floor types. Also, please rest assured, Dyson machines are made from polycarbonate ABS which is the same material used in riot shields and crash helmets. We subject them to 50,000 hours of testing and 550 individual tests. All of this to ensure they can withstand a lifetime's hard use.
