Got it home and assembled it (noting the handle and hoses are plastic and a bit flimsy compared to my 10+ yr old DC14), and tried to run it in the bedroom. The suction wont allow you to push the vacuum. At first I thought I assembled something incorrectly, or there was a height adjustment, or something that would make the 500 dollar vacuum work. Dyson support was closed for the weekend, so I looked on the web - apparently this is a common problem and there are all sorts of "fixes" out there - drill holes in the beater unit, peel off the rubber seal to reduce suction. leave the bottom plate off, etc. All seemed a bit silly, I still assumed there was some sort of adjustment that I was over looking. Called Dyson support today (Monday) and was told that the unit was not compatible with my carpet (apparently any carpet since we tried it in several places) and there was nothing they could do about it. Long story short - taking it back. I think it has to do with the auto-adjust head that basically is some thin rubber to float the bottom of the head unit, it's just not sturdy enough to keep it off the carpet and let some air be drawn in. Running on a rug is similar to putting your hand over the hose no air gets in, period. Works OK on hardwood, would maybe be usable on commercial type carpeting, but anything thicker than that no way. Really disappointed, have been a big Dyson fan, but this is a ridiculous problem.
