Good on floor, but intense suction on carpet

When we moved into our new house that we built we installed upgraded carpet which was plush and we had a couple of shag rugs. The vacuum was extremely difficult to push on the new carpet and rug as the suction was intense. It continued to work fine on the floor. Contacted Dyson and they no longer made parts for the vacuum so I got a new Dyson Animal 2. Same problem. The suction was so hard that i could not even push the vacuum not one inch. Suction is usually a good thing, but this is overkill. There is no adjustment for the suction either. However, like my old Dyson, it worked on the floor beautifully. I returned this vacuum and now I don't know what I will get cause I've always loved my Dyson.

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.
