Upgrading from a 5 year old Pet version of the same vaccum. I really wish they changed the way this stands up, the feet want to let the vacuum lay down with almost no force.

Hello, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've struggled with getting the Ball Animal 2 to stay and lock into the upright position. There will generally be two clicks that you should get when putting the vacuum into the upright position. These clicks are not always noticeable unless put into the upright position at a slower speed. I would recommend putting the unit into the upright position at a slower pace in order to listen to the clicks that occur in order to troubleshoot the problem. One click will be the wheels of the vacuum going into place. The second click will be the wheels locking into place. It is important to ensure the second click occurs as without the second click, stabilizer wheels are not able to lock securely into place.

The product has wonderful pickup power, however I find that it is a bit heavy. The product also will not fit under furniture to pick up the dust or dirt and is hard to use when trying to use the attachments.

I have two dogs and my old vacuum wasn't keeping up the amount of hair they shed. This vacuum does a great job with the shorter dog hair, but longer dog hair gets rapped on the brush frequently. I have had this vacuum for a year now, and I have noticed that even with routine maintenance and care it is losing its suction. I have to vacuum the same area two or three times to get all of the hair picked up. In addition, it blows dust out of a few places due to poor design, which is aggravating since it's supposed to be cleaning not making more dust in the air. It's a great vacuum if you can find it on sale, otherwise it's not really worth the hefty price tag.

I have now owned 3 Dyson upright vacuums. This is by far the worst one! It will not stand up. I fight with this vacuum on a daily bases and I hate it! It is an expensive piece of plastic junk. The rubber around the ball has come off again, which happened to the one just before this one. The hose will not go back in once I have taken it out and it does not always suck up everything. The canister that holds the dirt has cracked again and it is so hard the get it in and out. Extremely disappointed!! The very first Dyson that came out was the best one and I wish the never changed it.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're glad to hear that you've found the Ball Animal 2 to work so well on your wood flooring. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.

I had extremely high hopes for this sweeper, but was greatly disappointed. I cannot physically push this vacuum to clean my medium pile carpets throughout my home. I should have spent more time researching on-line reviews as this issue has been covered in several of them. I have relegated this over priced lemon to sweeping my wood floors. I wish that I hadn’t relied on the great experience with the 6 year old Dyson it was intended to replace.

This vacuum by Dyson has the most suction of any of their vacuums, and I am not kidding. Overall I'm really happy with this vacuum so far (I've only had it for a couple of weeks) and glad I made the purchase. Similar to my previous Dyson, it's an expensive investment up front but totally worth it. I'll try and focus on highlighting the good and bad of this vacuum to help you make your purchase decision a bit easier. Size/Weight: It's a bit larger than the old DC25 Animal. The brush head is a few inches longer and about an inch or two wider. Overall it's not a huge difference and I find that it helps pick up more dirt. The ball is larger as well, probably to accommodate a bigger motor. The dust bin is larger, but it's mainly due to a larger filter unit (non-HEPA)-- the dust bin itself is about the same size. The size of the larger ball makes it more difficult to get under any furniture you might have, but it's a decent trade off due to the larger brush head size. The power cord is long and comes with a better little clip for keeping it attached to the cord once you wrap it all up. Suction power: 10/10. It's a bit crazy to say, but this vacuum almost has TOO much suction power. You actually need to put some muscle into using this thing because it has so much suction power. i put this thing without the brush heads on one of my rugs and it literally picked up the entire corner of the rug when I picked up the vacuum with both hands. When you run the vacuum over carpet with the brush running, it moves, but you still need to push/pull with some effort because the vacuum really does have incredible suction. As a result, I've found that a LOT of dirt gets picked up. It's really incredible. Just one pass over our carpets filled up the dust bin with lots of pet hair and dirt. Attachments: This vacuum comes with three attachments-- the tangle-free brush head, small furniture attachment, and extended hose attachment. All three work fine but I will say that the placement on the new vacuum is not as great as the old one. The vacuum comes with this odd plastic holder that sits on the side of the dust bin. It doesn't feel very secure, but I haven't had any issues with it so far. The not so good: This vacuum does NOT come with the old tried-and-true foot switch to put the vacuum out of the upright storage mode and into vacuuming position. I have no idea why Dyson decided to do this but it was a horrible design decision and the main reason why I didn't give this a 5-star review. Getting the vacuum out of the straight-up storage mode is easy enough, but putting it back into that mode is tricky and not very reliable. It usually takes me at least 2 tries to get it back into position and I'm not happy that Dyson made this change. The old foot-operated locking mechanism was super easy (the thing was bright red so you couldn't miss it) and the vacuum would always lock into place if you wanted it there. Every time i want to roll the vacuum back into my closet it slips out of upright mode and back into vacuum mode, which I absolutely cannot stand. I find that it requires me to pick up the vacuum and carry it back to my closet instead of just rolling it back. Dyson engineers--- if you're reading this please bring back the old foot mechanism!

This vacuum is very heavy. On carpet that’s plush it’s extremely hard to push. 1 room is a workout and will be sore the next day from it. It cleans hardwood easy and effective with a powerful suction. The attachments are hard to use also. It tries to retract while using it so it’s a fight the whole time with the actual vacuum falling over so much.

The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. This can cause the machine to feel hard to push, due to the suction.

With regard to the hose, I can confirm that we would essentially expect the hose to become more flexible with time and use. A few tips we can provide would be attaching your accessories directly to your hose, as this will also help expedite stretching the elasticity of the hose. Dyson vacuums are engineered with versatility in mind and attachments may be used on either the wand or directly on the machine itself for added convenience. Also, when stretching the hose out we would recommend starting by stretching the part of the hose that is nearest to the vacuum first when extending this part to clean your home. We would actually recommend checking to ensure the wand is not obstructed and that the hose is not sucking into itself as the hose is not something we would expect to be an issue during use.

I have wanted a Dyson Ball Animal for years. Finally got one and I'm going to return it. For the price it feels cheaply made. The extension rod is difficult to use and the vacuum does not easily click to stand upright when not using. You can't lean it back to "wheel" it into another room without it coming loose and hitting the floor. I have been lifting the whole vacuum to move from one room to another. Very disappointed. Will be sticking with my Shark products moving forward.

Hello Wendy, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that in your use, you felt like the Ball Animal 2 felt cheaply constructed. Dyson machines are made from polycarbonate ABS, which is same material used in riot shields and crash helmets. They are tough, so we subject them to 50,000 hours of testing and 550 individual tests – all to ensure that they can withstand a lifetime’s hard use. You may view a short on some of the testing process here: http://bit.ly/1HmQ7p8

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with your Dyson Ball Animal 2 staying locked in to the upright position. Dyson Ball vacuum cleaners operate with a quick recline feature. This will avoid the need for pedals or stepping on the front of the machine as with our non-ball models. Rolling the unit around from room to room is recommended to be done with the ball instead of the stabilizer wheels on the back of the ball. You can then put the unit upright once you are done with cleaning and for storage. However, if you are having trouble locking the machine upright after cleaning, your machine would not be performing as designed.

I have purchased this vacuum a couple of times over the years; however, with my last purchase, they have changed the design. I am so disappointed! I have new, thick, excellent quality carpet in the bedroom and the brushes will not spin. After several pushes the brushes stop and you have to turn it on and off to get them going again. I had come to the conclusion that it will not work on good carpet and use my backup vacuum. What finally led to returning the product is that you can't use the hose attachment without the vacuum constantly falling over (the new design is less heavy). Unless you hold onto the vacuum while using the hose, the vacuum falls over and damages walls, furniture, etc. The Dyson brand was the only vacuum that hadn't broken after a year's use due to my dog's shedding and I loved it... But now, I'm back to looking for another brand.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've had a disappointing experience thus far, with the Ball Animal 2. The vacuum's key components have been engineered to fit inside of the ball itself, giving this machine it's sleek, streamlined profile. The cleanerhead on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. On thicker or more plush carpeting, the brush bar may sense the carpeting as an obstruction, which is causing your brush bar to stop.

With regard to the hose, I can confirm that we would essentially expect the hose to become more flexible with time and use. A few tips we can provide would be attaching your accessories directly to your hose, as this will also help expedite stretching the elasticity of the hose. Hello Carol, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're glad to hear that you've found the suction power offered with the Ball Animal 2 to be so good. Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear that so soon after receiving your Dyson, that it started to lack suction power. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 was engineered for homes with pets, with features that dig out dirt, hair and allergens. Dyson Ball Animal 2 does feature the strongest suction among our uprights - 270 air watts, for tough tasks across all floors. The self-adjusting cleaner head also raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. The experience you've had with a lack of pick up sounds rather unusual.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. It's very unusual to hear that your Ball Animal 2 has lost power and suction. This sounds like you may be encountering a thermal cutout, which is a built-in safety feature that shuts off power to the machine, when there is a blockage or clog which would damage the motor. All they hype about a Dyson being an awesome vac, is not hype, IT IS FACT. We have all hardwood floors and like to keep them very clean as often as possible. Several vacs over the years have done what we considered an OK job, but the performance of them was actually rather lacking when compared to this Dyson Animal. Keeping our floors as clean as we desire is a constant as we are cat owners, and especially this time of the year, its shed city leaving us with black cat hair tumble weeds to deal with. But they and the day to day dust and grime (we live near railroad tracks that haul coal from the mines to the power plant) is no problem for this machine. The ball makes maneuverability a breeze, but we are sure to wipe it down after each use to prevent any buildup on it to prevent it from becoming abrasive from microscopic particles. The one handed emptying of the cyclonic collection bin as well as a lifetime washable filter are great features. No bags or filters to buy, ever. It comes with most of the usual tools you would expect to find on an upright vac. The thickness and type of plastic used is impressive and has a very nice long heavy duty two prong cord. The pull out hose and wand are onboard and ready to use and easy to replace without even breaking stride from your cleaning routine. The motor is very strong delivering great suction and pickup even on our hardwood floors and has the average upright vac noise level It seems to be a high quality machine in every aspect and has a 5 year warranty. We are sold on Dyson now and when a replacement is needed, another Dyson product will be in top contention !

This vacuum cannot be used on med thickness carpets. I thought there was a problem with this product but when I called Dyson they told me that the suction was too high to work on higher pile, high end padding. It sucks the padding up to the carpet and the unit cannot roll. Why on earth would they not have a way to raise the brush???

Hi Patricia, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear that you have found the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright vacuum cleaner hard to push.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with your Dyson Ball Animal 2 staying locked in to the upright position.
