While the performance is good, there are some ergonomics and functionality that needs improving. It does a great job cleaning carpet but not as good on hard floor as I’d hoped. The tilt and lock isn’t as smooth and extensions can be somewhat of hassle to use. Pro: -Powerful. It actually lifts my carpet. -Easy to maneuver -Pet attachment works really well Con: -Not as good on hard floors. For really dusty areas, it still leaves a layer of dust -The rubber ridges on the ball can leave marks on wood floor. Not permanent, but still requires a wipe down -The hose is hard to extend because the suction is so powerful, making it harder to handle. -Not enough space to store all attachments on the vacuum -Still no retractable cord This is my first Dyson, and I never bought into the power of their suction, till now. Out of the box, assembling it was simple enough with everything snapping together easily. This thing is powerful, maybe even too powerful. I picked the Animal version because I have a cat, but even so, I think this model may have been an overkill. It’s louder than other vacuums, but given it’s performance, it’s reasonable. On carpet, it sucked up more particles than any other vacuums I’ve had. It was actually lifting the spot I was cleaning so be careful using it on rugs. On hard floor on the other hand, it didn’t perform as well as I’d hoped it would. It will suck up bigger particles and pet hair just fine, but if there’s an especially dusty area (under the coffee table or the couch) then it still leaves a layer of dust behind. To be fair, most vacuums does this or just fling away the dust, but I was hoping the Dyson would be able to suck it all up. Another issue I had when using it on wood floors is that the rubber ridges on the ball leave behind track marks. It’s not permanent and just takes some wiping to get rid off, but that’s just an extra step you have to do unless you’re fine with squiggly lines on your floor. The attachments all work like you’d expect them to, but the great thing is that the pet hair brush actually works! One wipe and it sucked all the cat hair off my sofa. I did have a hard time using the extending wand and hose. The wand itself is fine and I like how it’s actually the handle and slides off. The issue is the hose. Maybe it’s the suction, but fully extending the hose is a hassle. It keeps wanting to contract back and requires more effort to hold it than it should need. While the power is unbeatable, little things makes me question their design choices. For one, the accessories holder can’t hold all the attachment. The pet hair attachment doesn’t have a place for it. I just stick it in the top of the handle after each use. The tilting and locking of the vacuum works half the time. Pushing it down either doesn’t release the lock or it snaps down hard that it feels like it’ll break over time. Tilting it back doesn’t always lock it. Also no retracting cord and the upper plastic tab holding the cord is flimsy. Overall, the power is what you’re looking for and this delivers. It has plenty of power for pet hair, but unless you really have thick amount of hair on your floors, the regular ball 2 may be a more budget friendly choice.

It has great sanction and fantastic use. The problem I have is when putting it away the hose. It went in smooth the first month but after that you have to fight with it to store the hose back in. For the price I paid i would think this would work better. Such a disappointing experience.

We recommend pulling the wand/hose out and checking to ensure the hose is not twisted. If it is, twist it back to normal and you'll find that the hose and wand sit smoothly.

After using a few times the wheels on the vacuum squeak an make an awful noise . The noise is so annoying its frustrating especially for the money you pay for Dyson . Out-the-box, the upright mechanism can be stiffer, and makes it harder to hear the clicks. There will generally be two clicks that you should get when putting the vacuum into the upright position. These clicks are not always noticeable unless put into the upright position at a slower speed. We would recommend putting the unit into the upright position at a slower pace in order to listen to the clicks that occur in order to troubleshoot the problem. One click will be the wheels of the vacuum going into place. The second click will be the wheels locking into place. It is important to ensure the second click occurs as without the second click, stabilizer wheels are not able to lock securely into place.

Its Absolutely ridiculous to have to do that when you spend almost 500.00 on something and expect it to work. Completely disappointed in this company will never buy a dyson again.

When the machine is first used, you will smell something like a burning smell as the motor gets revved up and used for the first time. This is no cause for alarm. After several uses, the smell will dissipate.
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features a self-adjusting cleanerhead and the strongest suction of any Dyson machine, and can be used on most flooring and carpet types. However, we're unable to test our machines on every permutation out there. Therefore, we recommend confirming with your carpet or flooring manufacturer before using your Dyson or any new vacuum cleaner.

That being said, frequent obstructions in your machine may occur as a result of poor airflow, which can happen due to an existing obstruction or dirty filters. This blockage of airflow can also result with a loss of suction. Dyson's best vacuum yet

The first Dyson vacuum that my family bought was at least 10 years ago when the company was first hitting the market for "bagless" vacuums, and that machine is still going strong to this day (and the MSRP was about the same as what this machine costs new). Dyson has done a tremendous job with refinements over the years. The vacuum's suction certainly seems well up to the task. In fact, getting the attachments hose to stretch enough away from the base unit is a challenge, in that the suction is so strong. Further, the way in which the attachment hose is connected to the vacuum allows for significantly easier extend and reattach. I also very much appreciate that the main three attachments connect effortlessly to the turbine's side (the pet hair attachment must still be stored separately). Basically, the machine has become a minimalist device with a ball that makes the vacuum head significantly easier to maneuver. The only downside I've seen to the machine is the fact that it has two easily removable filters that the company recommends are cleaned about every two months. On the flipside, the cleaning process couldn't be easier; remove them, run cold water over them, and allow to sit in the sun for a day (I have a mopper that recommends removing bacteria by sunlight as well). I can't say enough about the pet hair attachment. It's at least as good as the main vacuum head in terms of removing hair and small particles from carpet-like surfaces, and it's completely suction-operated. This attachment is worth the MSRP, in my view; an exceptionally clean car is my own proof of this! In my view, you simply can't go wrong with Dyson vacuums. They do what they claim, and if this machine is engineered like our older model (it certainly appears to be), expect many years of great usage from it. And the 5-year warranty with free shipping to/from is pretty hard to beat :)
