Great vacuum with great suction, and a few flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first Dyson vacuum cleaner is over 10 years old and still going strong, but it is showing its age. I was curious to see what Dyson could do to improve an already great vacuum and was impressed with some of the changes, but not others. Assembly This vacuum was a breeze to put together and did not require any tools. The vacuum came with 3 attachments, but the tangle-free turbine tool did not have a place to store it. Cleaning power I was very impressed with how well this vacuum cleaned. The strong suction pulled the carpet while the brush head spun and gave a great cleaning. I was surprised on how much fine dust this vacuum collected. You can even easily vacuum hard wood floors with no adjustment needed other than turning off the spinning brush. This vacuum is by far the best vacuum I have owned, even better than our other Dyson. Design Dyson has always done a great job at making a stylish looking vacuum while maintaining functionality. I like how the ball allows you to more freely move around the floor without the feeling of the wheels dragging. However, even though Dyson did a great job of improving this vacuum, there are a few design-related features I was not impressed with. I feel that the dust canister is too small and it does not fully empty without tapping it against the trash can. I am also not a fan of the locking mechanism that replaced the kick stand. When placing the vacuum in the upright position, sometimes it does not lock in place and falls to the ground. Also, when rolling the vacuum away, the brush head sometimes comes unlocked. Pros Best suction power I have experienced in a vacuum Good looking 5 year warranty Cons No retractable cord Upright locking mechanism replaced kick stand Dust canister requires extra effort to fully empty Conclusion I find the Dyson Ball Animal 2 a great vacuum and would recommend it. It does a great job a cleaning both hardwood and carpeted floors and would say it is worth the money.

Suction Is Way Too Strong.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I still have my DC17 from 2008, but figured it was time for a new vacuum. I was excited to receive this, only to not be able to easily push it across my low pile carpet. The suction is way too strong - my arm hurt after five minutes and I decided I did not want to spend my days fighting with a $500 vacuum that makes cleaning more difficult. Returned it the next day and purchased the original Animal Ball instead since the air watts on that is 245 versus the 306 of the Animal 2. Other than that, I will say it wasn’t nearly as sturdy as my 17. Seemed a little on the flimsy side, but maybe I’m just used to a larger machine.

Posted .Hello, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've had some trouble with your Ball Animal 2. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.
While I understand you've since returned your purchase, we'd value the opportunity to learn more regarding your experience, as we're dedicated to customer satisfaction. Please consider emailing us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

Completely disappointed spending that much for something that didnt even work from the beginning. Amazing vacuum! Excellent suction & features.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Dyson Animal Ball 2 is nothing short of impressive. Having never owned a Dyson I didn't know what to expect. Assembly was straightforward. Everything clicks into place and the suction is amazing. Here are some pros and cons. Pros: Easy assembly Insane suction Automatic height adjustment Going from standing/storage mode to vacuum is easy. Just takes a slight pop and the brush heads turn on automatically. No messing with a foot switch to get going. Excellent build quality Extension wand is awesome. I left the vacuum at the bottom of the stairs and climbed up the stairs to clean them and the Dyson didn't fall over. I fully expected it to topple over once I got passed the second stair. Didn't happen. Power cord is built tough. The cord looks like it could take a beating. Easy disassembly for cleaning of head and filters. Handles very well. Takes corners like it's on rails. CONS: Haven't found many cons. The packaging was difficult to open. It was glued tight. While the Dyson has overall really good build quality, there are a few plastic tabs here and there that I could see snapping off under certain circumstances. However the unit comes with a 5 yr warranty. Overall I would definitely pick this up if you are looking for a high end vacuum with excellent features and capabilities.

Returning this today
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a dyson years ago and switch the the shark. I was happy with the Shark but it just died after about 6 or 7 years. I thought I would give this one a try since it was on sale. My old Dyson had a motor and it was so strong it pulled you. This one is incredibly hard to push. It works great on flat surfaces but on the carpet in the living room which is thicker and the main reason I bought this it's terrible! I have 2 cats and just got 2 dogs so I need a good vacuum. Sadly this is a major fail for Dyson. This ball technology isn't good at all. I'm going to return this and try another shark.

Posted .Hi Shawn, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Dyson Ball Animal 2 on high pile carpets. I can confirm, Dyson ball upright vacuums - including Dyson Ball Animal 2, have an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. Dyson cleaner heads have been designed to maintain optimal contact with flooring to help ensure the best performance across both hard floors and carpet. As a result, while we don't expect problems to occur and experiences can vary from home to home, some high pile carpets may fill in the cleaner head resulting in an airtight seal.

Incorrect Delivery and Too Much Suction
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Two issue with this purchase. Issue 1: The item was delivered to the incorrect address. We were lucky that the people at the delivery address were new and honest and used the opportunity to meet a new neighbor about a block away. I would not order for home delivery again. Issue 2: The vacuum has too much suction and is very difficult to use on carpet. I would not purchase it again for use on carpet. There is no indication of this issue in the documentation. I found later on that others have had the same issue.

If you have carpet stay away
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love stain, had the previous animal model and it lasted 8 years with minimal issues. I wanted a refresh and bought the new animal and it is not comparable. This.vacuum has 300 air watts of suction (according to dyson customer service). It is nearly impossible to push this across a carpet (any carpet - shag or no shag). Get something with lower air watts and do your homework. Best Buy only has a 14 day return policy and dyson will sometimes does a swap for a lower watt suction vacuum. Dyson also unequivocally states that their vacuums are not typically Recommended for carpeting (???)

Posted .Hello Toby, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear that you have found the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright vacuum cleaner hard to push. Dyson machines have higher levels of suction power - while this works for a majority of carpets, there are select fibers that may not be compatible. The air seal would be limited due to the suction power of the machine, from the result of the high suction and the self-adjusting feature.

It's an animal!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I'm trying to decide whether to buy a new tool of some kind, I'm most interested in answering three questions: 1) Does it do a good job? 2) Is it easy to use and maintain? 3) Will it hold up to use? After using this Dyson for a few days, I'd say the answer is "yes" to the first two. The last question is always harder to answer, but at least with this model it comes with a 5-year full parts and labor warranty. That tells me Dyson is pretty confident it will be durable. Compared to other vacuums I've used, this one definitely seems to have the strongest suction. The roller brush also seems to very thoroughly clean carpet and rug surfaces. Best of all, the head automatically adjusts to different surfaces just like they advertise. We have a mix of carpet, ceramic tile, and hard wood floors with throw rugs scattered around. It really is a breeze to vacuum over the solid surfaces and rugs without having to do anything other than tap the roller brush switch on and off. The long hose, wand, and turbine attachment allowed me to do our entire carpeted staircase with the vacuum sitting at the bottom--something I've not been able to do with any other vacuum. The turbine brush appears to clean the stair carpet very well, too. I also like the fact you can change between the floor head and the wand without having to manually switch the air flow. When you lock it in the upright position, it automatically switches suction to the hose. I found the vacuum to be easy to maneuver around things and even into corners. I couldn't go straight under the cabinet toe kicks in the kitchen because of the way the roller head sticks up in the middle, but I could easily turn parallel and run either edge of it under the cabinets. The ball design with its low center of gravity makes it easy to twist the handle and change directions without too much effort. Maintenance seems like it'll be easy. It was definitely convenient to empty the canister into the trash using the push button on the handle. After giving it a couple of taps on the inside of the trash can, everything was cleared out. We have multiple cats and a black lab so there was a significant amount of hair to empty, but I never had to reach up inside the canister to clear it. The manual says the two filters should be rinsed at least every two months. I was pretty skeptical when I first read that since one of the filters is inside the cyclone canister. On other vacuums, this filter always got dirty fast. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see no dirt on the filter after I vacuumed the entire house. It really might go a couple months between cleanings. The other filter is on the motor inside the ball. I had trouble removing it according to the directions and ended up calling support to make sure I was doing it correctly. I was, but I just needed to really put some torque into it to break the filter out of the housing. When it finally did come loose, my hand hit the roller head causing a pretty nasty slice on one of my knuckles. However, it's now easy to attach and remove, so just be careful that first time you remove it. There are only a couple of minor things I don't like about the vacuum, and they may or may not be an issue for you. One is you need to unwind the entire cord in order to use the hose and wand because the top cord hook is on the wand. Another issue is the push button on/off switch. You can't really tell by looking at it if it's on or off, and it's apparently easy to get pushed when moving the vacuum around after use. Several times now I've plugged the cord into the wall and had the vacuum unexpectedly leap to life. Last, there was no place to store the turbine tool. The support person said they sell a small bag to hold all the attachments, but the other two tools already have a nice little storage attachment on the vacuum. Eventually, I figured out you can snap the tool into the wand on the top of the vacuum before you put it away. Then, when you need to use it next, just unwind the cord, pull the wand out, pop the tool off, and then carry it with you while you vacuum. Overall, I like the vacuum. It does the job very well, it's easy to maintain, and time will tell if it's durable. At least I know I'll have a good, solid vacuum for the next 5 years while it's under warranty.

Posted .Hello there, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for your review. I am happy to hear that you were so pleased with the power 270 air watts of suction power on the Dyson Ball Animal 2 in your initial use. It is very unusual to hear that your machine is clogging regularly in your everyday use now. That being said, frequent obstructions in your machine may occur as a result of poor airflow, which can happen due to an existing obstruction or dirty filters. I am happy to let you know that most blockages are simple to remove and we find that most problems may be resolved through simple, yet effective troubleshooting at home.

Not worth the money and feels cheap
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We needed a new vacuum after having a Shark vac for a few years. I finally convinced my wife to buy the Dyson and boy was I disappointed. 1. the vacuum falls when trying to use the extended hose, 2. when placing the vacuum handle in the upright position you have push the unit past 12 o clock for the upright to click onto the base, almost as if it was going to topple forward, and last it felt it was cheaply made. We also read after the purchase that other reviewers had the same issue. We returned this vacuum and purchased the Shark DuoClean and it hasn’t let us down plus we saved money too.

In regards to the hose, I can confirm that we would essentially expect the hose to become more flexible with time and use. Dyson vacuums are engineered with versatility in mind and attachments may be used on either the wand or directly on the machine itself for added convenience. Also, owners can rest assured, Dyson machines are built to stand the test of time. Our materials are light yet durable and tested to destruction. Our machines can handle bumps, drops, hits, and jabs.

Huge Let Down
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After owning a Dyson Animal in the past, I bought this with high expectations. It let me down in everyway possible. The suction was so strong it was difficult to use. The beater bar would not stay on. The tools felt cheap. The hose was a nuisance to use. Every vacuum I have ever owned (most at 1/6th the cost) far exceeded this pile of garbage. I only wish I could give it 0 stars.
