I hate this vacuum!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always wanted a Dyson, one day I decided to just get it and pay it off slowly. I wish I never did that. This hs got to be one of the WORST vacuums I have every owned. I bought it because I have 5 cats, 2 dogs and a lot of birds. The attachments are so hard to take out and use without injuring yourself to keep the vacuum upright while you " fight" to hold the attachments. I use it in the bird room, oh wait... I need a broom too because it will not even pick up the seeds, or the small pieces of anything. If it is not hair, then it will not pick it up.

Didn’t work as expected
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Didn’t work as well as was hoping, returned and bought a Miele. Dyson was heavy and did not clean our hardwood floors as well as I would have expected for the price.

Posted .Hello DB, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you found the Dyson Ball Animal 2 to be so heavy, in your use. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 was engineered for homes with pets, with features that dig out dirt, hair and allergens. Dyson Ball Animal 2 does feature the strongest suction among our uprights - 270 air watts, for tough tasks across all floors. I understand that you have initiated the return for your unit, however we would value the opportunity to learn more about your experience. Please feel free to reach out to [email protected]. New < old!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We gave our old Dyson to our oldest when she moved out and bought this to replace it... the most common statement made when using the new one is “I HATE THIS THING!” The attachments suck, the power cord sucks, the power button sucks, the wheels suck, the filters suck, the vacuum rarely sucks! How on earth did Dyson go backwards?!?!

Looks cool but no functionality.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This vacuum is hard to unlock and hard to push. When you pull it down or push it up to begin vaccuming, the sound makes you think plastic is breaking. It's usless on rugs due to the suction combined with the awkwardness of pushing. Transitioning from hard floor to rug is not possible. Even if your whole house was carpet, the suction produced makes it nearly impossible to push. I guess you could walk backwards and pull it around the house.

Posted .Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear that you have found the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright vacuum cleaner hard to push. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.

Not for new carpeting
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Dyson vacuums are unusable on new soft carpeting. The newer plush carpets, even a medium pile, are too dense and the design of the Dyson makes it so the vacuum will not move. There should be a warning with the vacuum not to purchase is you plan to upgrade the carpet in the near future, you will need to purchase a new vacuum. This is a common issue.

No Belt, it just breaks.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this vacuum for almost 2 years now and I have to say, it was not great. Most vacuums when the roller stops working, it it the belt that needs to be changed. On this vacuum, it is a motor that controls the roller. So it is just not worth fixing. Yet another over engineered product that breaks and ends up in the trash in a couple years. It is no better than the rest of them.

Posted .Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've been unhappy thus far, with your Ball Animal 2. I can confirm that on your machine, the brush bar is not powered by a belt, which in most instances, results in far less maintenance for our owners. There is a motor within your machine's cleaner head that powers the brush bar. All hype. Not a fan. Overkill on the suction
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I could not use this vacuum. I have a huge area rug and this thing stuck in the carpet as soon as I began to vacuum. The brush head would not roll and it smelled as if it were melting. I’m sure it’s great on hard floor but I need a vacuum for multiple surfaces. My 5 year old shark rotator had adjustable suction which is I feel is needed for thicker carpets and rugs. Not a fan of the self adjusting vacuum.

Posted .Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've encountered some issues with your Dyson Ball Animal 2. I can confirm, Dyson ball upright vacuums - including Dyson Ball Animal 2, have an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. Dyson cleaner heads have been designed to maintain optimal contact with flooring to help ensure the best performance across both hard floors and carpet. As a result, while we don't expect problems to occur and experiences can vary from home to home, some high pile carpets may fill in the cleaner head resulting in an airtight seal. This can also occur on area rugs or mats which are not fixed down the flooring underneath.

We would value the opportunity to assist you, to help ensure your Dyson is working properly. Please feel free to contact us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. Would not recommend it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was not satisfied with this vacuum, was very heavy to handle on carpet but was OK on bare floor. The instructions were bare minimum, took a while to understand how to put it together and when I decided to return it... how to dissemble it. Was too big to go in small space (between furniture) had to use the small tool to finish my cleaning... I like to have only one tool to do all the work. I decided to exchange it for the cordless Dyson Cyclone V10 which is the right size for me.

Don't buy
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been a long time fan of dyson vacuums, but this is a flawed version. The canister doesn't open when i pull the lever, i have to pry it open while making a mess. It also doesn't click back into the machine easily, it's a struggle every time. I now dread using this vacuum and am very disappointed.

Not what I expected
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have only owned Kirby vacuums and after buying this was reminded why. Built from cheap plastic parts on a giant rubber ball that just makes using it awkward! "Self adjusting " but not so much-could not even push it on our carpet and when using it on tile it did a poor job of cleaning! Will be returning! Another example of you get what you pay for!

Passed Golden Retriever Test
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have 2 Golden Retrievers and a Springer Spaniel. I have owned several vacuums that have claimed to be for homes with pets. NONE have been able to remove all of the Golden hair from my carpet. I had to make several passes and continually clean the hair that constantly got caught and tangled in the roller/beater bar. I was reluctant to spend the money on the Dyson but enough was enough. I purchased the Dyson Animal 2 yesterday and HOLY COW, my carpets are truly clean for the first time in a very long time! It only took 2 passes (1 in each direction) and the carpet looked amazing with NO hair at all caught on the roller ball !!!! It took about 1/4 the time it usually takes me to vacuum the entire house. The rigid extension pole is inside the hose which will prevent the hose from becoming clogged with hair too. Pet people will understand and appreciate that. The unit itself does not recline flat which makes it too large to fit under most furniture. The suction is very strong and makes it seem heavy but is really just adhering to the surface that well. The pivoting head makes turning easier than a more conventional vacuum. The edge cleaning is very good. Emptying is easy and completely hands free. The filters (2) seem very easy to clean once you locate them. Attachments are very convenient to use and all but the upholstery tool are stored on the unit. I am in love with this vacuum and will now not dread this chore and will probably even vacuum more often. I can only hope that it lasts. My recommendation is to quit spending money replacing vacuums that don't do the job you want or take forever to do it. Bite the bullet and get the Dyson Animal 2. You will be impressed. I got it on sale for $100 off.

Sucks too hard for 9x12 area rugs.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have very large low pile ruggable area rugs. This vacuum suctions to the rug and the brush stops rolling. I have to turn off the vacuum to move it. I have a robot vacuum, so I only bought it for animal hair on rugs and my couch. So for me, a huge waste of money.

Powerful Vacuum with just a few Weak Links
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So like pretty much everyone, I've heard that Dysons were good vacuums. I'd heard that they were powerful. I'd heard that they were well built. But I'd never actually tried one until this. So when it arrived I assembled all of the parts, pulled out the cleaning wand, and turned it on. The suction created was powerful enough to immediately collapse the extended tube leading to the wand, almost pulling the Dyson over in the process. And make no mistake - had it not quite obviously been designed to keep this from happening, it would have yanked the entire vacuum straight across the room. The power that this thing can produce cannot be understated. And while there are plenty of other great features, that's the one I keep coming back to. So, on those other features, the cleaning head, wand, and accessories are all very well thought out, highly modular, and in many cases built in clear plastic so that if something goes wrong, you can immediately spot where it is. The cleaning bin is very cleverly designed, with a drop out bottom that lets you simply hold it over a trash can and press a button to dump everything straight into the can. and most of the accessories are stored nearly seamlessly in the vacuum cleaner itself. Most will collapse down into more compact forms as well, and are built with 2 latches so that they can be locked in place either in their storage or use position. Even the little stabilizer wheels to keep the ball base from falling over when it's being used as a cannister vac or being stored seamlessly fold up and out of the way when you pull back on the handle, and snap back into place when you bring it back upright. At times, it kind of feels like someone took a Transformer toy and made a working version, which I'll admit does make it an unusually fun thing to use. That said, this similarity is also where I did find a few downsides to the unit as well. They're fairly minor things that wouldn't affect normal use, but does make me worry a bit about long-term durability. Namely, just about all of these moving parts are made of plastic, and some of them seem worryingly light duty. The button which opens up the bottom of the bin, for instance, is basically a long, thin plastic plunger that will bend ominously whenever you don't press it just right. Given that this is going to be one of the most heavily worn parts not in the engine, I'm really astonished they didn't go with something more robust or, failing that, at least install some guides to keep the bending from happening. More worrying is the fact that this button also serves dual duty in keeping the bin attached to the rest of the vacuum. If the rod snapped and it just kept you from being able to open the bottom of the bin quite so cleanly, that would be annoying but not much of a problem. But I do find myself concerned at the prospect that damage to it could also potentially make it impossible to keep the bin in place. Another thing that I found somewhat annoying is the fact that there is no place to stick one of the key accessories that makes this an Animal rated vacuum - a small tangle-free brush-head for removing fur and hair referred to as the mini turbine tool - does not have a storage space on the vacuum itself. This seems to be because apart from some internal differences, it's mostly just a standard Dyson design cast in a different color of plastic. It would have been very nice to be able to keep all the accessories in one place, particularly since the turbine tool is small, expensive, and the kind of thing one could easily lose for a prolonged period. That said, these misgivings really only keep me from giving this thing a perfect score. The cleaning performance of the thing is fantastic - it was able to pick up a full bin of dust even on floors that are vacuumed daily. Long hair, animal fur, mud, even some wet messes didn't so much as slow it down. It's an expensive tool to be sure, but it's also one of the best.
