I love Dyson!! I bought new Dyson but no one explained to me that this new model would not work on quality carpet. I have plush carpet. This vacuum is impossible to use on this carpet. I am out side of my return period now I am stuck with a really expensive paper weight.

      Hello Bummed,
This is Miella from Dyson. Thank you for your review. Dyson machines are suitable for most flooring types. However, we are unable to test our machines on every flooring permutation in the market. Therefore, we always recommend that you contact your carpet retailer/manufacturer before using your new Dyson or any other vacuum cleaner as some retailers/manufacturers have specific machine restrictions. If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected]. Our experts are happy to help.

Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've had some issues with your Ball Animal 2. This vacuum, along with all other Dyson vacuums, are designed to not lose suction as long as they are properly maintained as outlined in the user guide. The Ball Animal 2 machine does feature 2 filters that need to be cleaned and maintained. You will also want to ensure that the cyclone is cleaned, and the bin is emptied before debris is able to fill past the MAX fill line on the bin. Keeping the pathway of airflow clear is essential to maintaining suction.

While we don't expect issues to occur, Dyson does back your new machine from an authorized retailer with a free 5-year guarantee. We would value the opportunity to assist you, to help ensure your Dyson is working properly. Please feel free to contact us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We are keen on providing you with support and learning more about your experience.

I have to say that I am very impressed with the Dyson Ball Animal 2! I've always heard that Dyson vacuum cleaners were the best yet I had never tried one until now. To begin, the unit arrived with only a few easy steps involved in putting it together. No tools were needed. Simply remove it from the box and attach the bottom piece that houses the brush, the handle and a couple of other parts that simply snap into place. Had it up and running within a couple of minutes. It comes with the usual extension hose and brush attachments. As for use, it is actually a joy to use. As I mentioned before, I had never used a Dyson so the entire swivel ball motion was new to me. In practice, it is not only easy to use but helps make vacuuming much faster. Being able to switch direction with the twist of my wrist works great! As for how well it picks up the dirt and animal hair from our carpet, I can honestly say it works better than any vacuum I've ever used. It really does an amazing job. Also, it glides easily across area rugs. The cord is extra long as well. The brush attachment works very well on our stairs. Just the right size to get the job done and easily get into every nook & cranny. I am also impressed with the size & weight of the vacuum. Overall size of the vacuum is a little smaller than our old vacuum yet it holds more. Removing the holding talk is as simple as it can get. In the past, we purchased a new vacuum every few years. They just never seem to last. This unit is new so time will tell, but it feels like a quality product that I expect will last for many years. And if replacement parts do become needed they are easily found. I am finding out very quickly why Dyson has the great reputation that they do have!

For the past ~6 years I've owned the Dyson DC41 Animal + Allergy vacuum and couldn't be happier. That was until I received and started to use the new Dyson Animal 2. I vacuumed one bedroom carpet with my old vacuum and then went over it with the Animal 2 and ended up with 1/2 filled bin! I can't stress enough how much more power this vacuum has compared to the DC41 Animal + Allergy. On barefloors, tile, chicago brick, & medium length carpet the new Animal 2 consistently picked up quite a bit more compared to the DC41. The included mattress tool works extremely well on sheets due to a dog that loves to roll around outside. The animal hair tool has been redesigned since the DC41 and we absolutely love it! It's so convenient to use the animal hair tool when needing to quickly vacuum our couches, dining room chairs, & bedding. I would highly recommend the Animal 2 to anyone! The Animal 2 has an increase in suction power compared to prior year models and I can vouch first-hand that the increased power directly results in an increase in performance!

      Hello Mrsfrustrated,

Thank you for your review. This is Miella from Dyson. We're so sorry to hear you're experiencing this with your Ball Animal 2. This is definitely peculiar, as the brushbar is to spin when reclined (unless the brushbar control button was pressed) and if routine maintenance.

The user manual provides the steps for clearing the brushbar and cleaning it, and the steps for diagnostics can also be found on the Dyson support page.

If you would prefer to speak to a Dyson expert, we are available by phone, but you can also reach us via live chat on dyson.com and email at [email protected].

We'd value the opportunity to learn more about your experience with your Dyson as we'd like to help ensure you are having a 5-star experience. Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected], and we will be in touch.

    Extreme Suction Power

Although this is not my favorite vacuum, I am really impressed by its powerful suction. I really don't believe there is any other out there that can beat this monster. I tried it in different surfaces and the results were impressive every single time. I like that it does not have and does not need any filters but it still beats all the others that I have tried before. Due to the size of the ball-shaped motor, you will not be able to use it under beds unless you use the included adapters. Why isn't it my favorite vacuum? It's because it is somewhat heavy. Not too heavy like some other brands I have tried, especially with this much power but I have a cord-free model that is very light and will still be the one I will use most often. However, the Ball Animal 2 will be my choice for heavy duty cleaning or twice a month. It actually picked up a lot of dirt on a carpet that I thought was very clean since I had just vacuumed it with the cord-free one. It felt as if it had magnets that attracted hair even when it was a couple of inches away. Better yet, there was no clogging. I hope it will continue to perform like that in the months to come. Top quality, incredible suction (be careful with small toys and other items), easy to dispose of the dirt and good size canister which is something very important for such a powerful vacuum.

Hello there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're sorry to hear that you've experienced an issue so soon after your initial use, of the Dyson Ball Animal 2. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.

While I understand you have already taken the time to reach out for support with the problem, we'd value the opportunity to learn more regarding your experience, as we're dedicated to customer satisfaction. Please consider emailing us directly at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you.

Assembly out of the box is quick work. Parts fit together logically and Dyson's picture-only instructions are easy to follow. Once up and running, the vacuum immediately impresses. Very, very strong suction and ease of maneuverability are the first things to jump out at you. The head is very low profile allowing easy reach under low couches and chairs. And, after several uses, I've still not had to clear the brush of hair (which is normally an every-use occurrence in my house with a DC07 Animal). As with previous Dysons, the entire outside of the unit and all of the accessories are very 'plasticy'. Historically this hasn't been an issue with Dyson (my DC07 has taken a tumble down the stairs from the 2nd floor with no damage to show for it). But, just as an observation, some of the parts do feel...thinner...with this model. In particular, the wand and the accessories don't feel quite as sturdy as previous models. One other note: In comparison to my DC07, the canister is noticeably smaller. May prove to not be an issue in the long run, just pointing it out. Overall, a very strong performer.

I have the gen 1 of the Animal and it was good. This is better. Has better suction Smoother control when turning corners Attachments are better and more functional I think Dyson just makes a better built vacuum than Shark as I have recently tested their best and it felt cheap and the cord was too short.

First let me answer the obvious question. Does it have suction? Yes, it certainly does. Things I liked about the Dyson Animal: - It has good suction - Is reasonably quiet - Almost all the attachments have a place on the vacuum which means I'm not hunting for them - It has a very long power cord - The beater bar can be manually turned off. - The beater bar will automatically be turned off if the vacuum is upright - The way you empty the vacuum is painless and easy - The top handle is thick and pleasant to hold - The ball allows the vacuum to turn reasonably easy - The expandable vacuum hose is permanently attached to the vacuum This is a vacuum and it works pretty much like every other vacuum you've used in your life from the standpoint, turn it on, roll the vacuum forward and back. Nothing mysterious or difficult there. The Dyson though uses a ball for it's engine and that allows it to turn. The Animal is literally a beast when it comes to weight. It is not a light vacuum. While the ball helps you turn the vacuum while your using it, it does take a little effort and practice to work WITH the Animal instead of against it. What I mean is, it's a little like driving a car with a trailer on it. You don't just whip around a corner. It's not nimble. You have to push it forward and then begin to turn it while pushing forward. After using it a few times you start to get the feel of it but again, it does take a few rounds of practice. The vacuum itself did a great job. It didn't pick everything up the first time you ran over it but by the second or third time it was gone. It did a great job on my car but the hose was a bit of a problem as I'll discuss later. It was really nice that the beater bar doesn't run which means you can use it on the driveway to clean your car. I used it for running over furniture for dusting and wow, did it suck it up nicely. Things I didn't like about the Dyson Animal: - The expandable vacuum hose - The brush attachment is mounted on to the wand attachment - The brush attachment can't connect directly to the vacuum hose - The long wand has to be connected to the vacuum hose when using the vacuum as a standup. This causes issues when using other attachments. - The power button is half way down the handle instead of the top where you are grasping My main issue with the vacuum isn't when it's used as a "normal" vacuum. It's when the attachments come into play. Let's start with the expandable hose. It expands a very nice distance. The problem is the suction. The Dyson sucks so well that it literally "unexpands" the hose. It sucks it back to it's tightened state. Basically you are fighting the suction with the hose. I've started to get a little bit of technique to counter this but you can easily wind up with sore arms because you're constantly pulling on the hose. This makes jobs where you need the nice length of the hose to be expanded an issue. You really can't appreciate this scenario until you experience it. I think the only way they could have solved it is to have some sort of clip to allow it to remain expanded without you having to constantly pull it. That brings up the next issue, the attachments. The long wand you see the advertising, where the women is doing the ceiling, is attached to the vacuum hose in normal mode. In order to use the hose, you have to FULLY extend it otherwise the hose won't bend. Once it's fully extended, the only good it will do is if you are vacuuming the floor or ceiling. If you're trying to do something waist level, like a table, the wand is too long. So you need to then swap it out for the shorter wand. All my previous vacuums simply allowed me to pull out the hose and put on a new attachment. With the Dyson, it's a two step process. Take off the long wand, put on the short wand. Of course when you are finished you have to once again do the two step process in reverse. And the short wand attachment is the third issue. If you are doing a table or shelf, I don't want any unflexable wand on the hose. I want the brush attachment attached directly to the hose which allows me to clean the shelf. The included brush attachment though has to be connected to the foot long wand. Between that extension and the hose wanting to be sucked back into the unexpanded state, you are doing as much fighting as you are cleaning. Once the brush gets flush with the surface you are cleaning, it's incredibly wonderful. I believe they sell a few extra attachments to do what I'm describing so I'll probably need to get one of them. Bottom line for me is, if I'm vacuuming the floor, I'm loving the vacuum. When I go to use the attachments the machine and it's design are actually working against me to some extent instead of with me.

Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on the Dyson Ball Animal 2. I am pleased to hear that you are enjoying many of the great features this vacuum provides, such as the amazing suction power. This model is currently our strongest vacuum.

As for the issue with the hose, with it being new, it can be a little stiff for the first few uses. This will decrease over time and become easier to use. You can also attach the attachments directly to the hose without having to use the wand. If you are unable to attach to your hose, we would value the opportunity to assist and want to ensure your machine is working as intended. Please contact us at [email protected], include your name and contact information, and we will be glad to assist. We look forward to hearing from you.
