Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear that you have found the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright vacuum cleaner hard to push. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.

While I understand you've since returned your purchase, we'd value the opportunity to learn more regarding your experience, as we're dedicated to customer satisfaction. Please consider emailing us directly at [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you.

      Best wishes,

My qualifications - owner of 2 Golden Retrievers and a 2 story home with wall to wall carpet throughout - need I say more? I've gone through more vacuums than I can count - including 2 expensive Mieles. I've come to regard vacuums as a throwaway necessary evil. I most recently had a Shark Rotator, as I had given up on spending $500+ for what is basically a disposable item. But this one might change my assessment. What's your least favorite activity as a pet owner? If not #1, detangling brush rollers has got to be in the top 3. I'm totally impressed at how clean the brush head stays. I didn't own the Animal 1, but this one supposedly has an improved brush head. Between that and the amount of suction, the hair doesn't get a chance to get stuck. The first time I used this, I had just cleaned with the Shark the day before. I was completely amazed at how quickly the Animal filled up with what was left behind. There are downsides to the pulling power of this vacuum though - the tremendous suction makes it somewhat more difficult to navigate than a standard vacuum, especially depending upon what type of flooring you're on. Not so much an issue on hardwoods or short nap rugs, but on a deep shag it requires some effort. If your carpets are loose or you have throw rugs - forget about it - it'll try to eat them! But this speaks more to the awesome power. If you looking for raw power, this has it in spades. Having over the years being used to canisters with automatic cords & built in tool storage, it's a minor annoyance dealing with winding up a cord, and having to reach for a crevice tool (this unit can only carry one tool at a time, so if you're someone that tends to lose your tools, this is a minus. The ergonomics are a bit funky too. I'm not intuitively going back & forth from an upright lock to release position, and vice-versa - although I presume I just haven't gotten used to it yet. It does feel quite solid & well built. One thing that put me off about the Shark was the Febreze filter - I totally dislike "scents", and I always had an annoying tickle in my nose after a cleaning session. The Dyson's Hepa filter does a great job - it just smells "clean" without introducing anything added. The other major "feel good" item about this vacuum is the name. As I've said before, I've come to recognize vacuums as disposables. I don't feel like that about this one. It's a quality name, it feels solid, and I know if something goes wrong, they're not going to be gone tomorrow. And that's how you should feel when you're spending in the neighborhood of $500. Bottom line, you have to decide whether this is for you. If you're not a shedding pet owner, have a lot of loose rugs, or have a problem using a bit of effort to push the machine around, maybe this is not for you. But if you want a quality name, a unit that can suck a golf ball through a garden hose, and willing to spend the $$$, the Animal 2 deserves a strong look.

I am always one of those people that when you hear everyone talking about how good something is I think there has to be some flaw or it cant be that good. I can easily say I was wrong about the quality and performance from this Dyson. it easily has more power and better suction than any other vacuum I have ever owned. while is does have some quirks. I can easily say that this is the best vacuum i have ever had. Its surprising how much this vacuum picks up of my ground even when I vacuum everyday. I highly recommend anyone looking for a vacuum to seriously give Dyson a shot.

Pros: - Removes pet hair and dirt from carpet you didn't even know was there. - Once you get used to the ball turning, maneuvering around furniture becomes so much easier than with a traditional vacuum. - The "turbine tool" attachment makes removing pet hair from furniture quick and easy. - Rinsable filters always a plus (no wasting time with disposable filters). Cons: - While I love the "turbine tool" for cleaning up hair from furniture, there doesn't seem anywhere to attach it to the vacuum while not in use (like you can with the "stair tool" or extension for cleaning stairs or removing webs from the ceiling). - There's no light on the front of the vacuum for cleaning in dim spots around the house (such as under desks or beds). - This vacuum isn't the heaviest one I've used, but it's still pretty heavy. Something to keep in mind for cleaning stairs. The "meh": - This vacuum does such an amazing job cleaning carpet, the collection chamber fills up pretty quickly, so you'll likely need to empty it (at least once) every time, depending on the size of your home. - The way the small "wheels" on the back work to prop up the vacuum when not in use will not always stay "locked" while moving the vacuum, so I find myself just carrying it around (and it's not a light vacuum). Full Review: Our old vacuum geared towards homes with pets is almost ten years old and feels like it's just not cleaning as well as it used to. After using this Dyson Ball Animal 2, it became painfully (and almost embarrassingly) clear that the old vacuum was leaving behind a lot of fine dust/dirt and pet hair. I had to empty the Dyson collection chamber from just our living room and hallway alone, and I used the old vacuum a little over a week ago! One of the allures of a Dyson vacuum is that it doesn't use tradition four wheels, but a large "ball" for turning and guiding the vacuum. It takes some time to adjust, but I don't want to go back to the other competitors now, it's just so easy to maneuver around furniture compared to before. A few reviews for the previous version mentioned that it's difficult to push the vacuum on carpeted areas, but it didn't seem that I was putting in more effort to move it compared to my old vacuum. While I don't recall the last time I saw a vacuum with disposable filters, I'm glad that trend continues here. The Ball Animal 2 has large filters that are easy to get to and clean. The manual states that you should clean them at least once every two months, but with how much fine dirt/dust and hair this vacuum collects, I'll probably clean them once a month. I can't really say too many bad things about this, since it does a fantastic job at what I need: cleaning up dirt/dust and cat hair (and very well at that). However, there are a few things that I wish Dyson could have changed with this design. The biggest thing that bothers me about this is the lack of a light on the front of the cleaner head for dim areas, such as under desks and beds. My old vacuum has it, the smaller vacuum we have for upstairs has it, and it just feels odd not having a light with this unit. I wish the vacuum was a little lighter for cleaning the stairs, but that "turbine tool" does such a great and quick job that I'm willing to get over it. Overall, if you're in the market for a Dyson vacuum and have indoor pets, I would STRONGLY recommend the Ball Animal 2. What few complaints I have with it are just overshadowed by how well this thing performs in a house with a couple cats.

After extensive research on vacuum, i found out a strong suction is best on Berber carpet. I purchased This Dyson due to having the strongest suction model. The assembly was easy a few snaps together. turned on the animal and definitely is true to it's name. the suction of this beast is simply impressive. protecting the threads of the berber it just sucks everything in it's path. Highly recommended for berber owners and it does have the optional roller to work on regular carpets too. great investment.

    Best vacuum I've ever owned!

This is without a doubt the best vacuum I've ever owned. I had been using another high end vacuum that I thought was okay---I truly had no idea what I was missing. Straight out of the box this vacuum looked easy to assemble so I decided to really test it and let my wife assemble it! Not a knock on her, but it's not something she normally does. She had it assembled in less than 15 minutes! The instructions were simple and easy for her to follow. The suction is nothing short of amazing! We have a black lab whose hair gets everywhere. On our light carpets we have to vacuum all the time. We may be able to get away with vacuuming less now... The Dyson glides over our carpets without getting hung and barely requiring any force, yet picks up things that seemingly aren't visible without looking really, really closely. It gets very close to the walls and reaches pretty far under furniture thanks to the design. It's also super easy to turn so you shouldn't be exhausted after vacuuming your house. The pet hair attachment itself is also the best I've ever used. It picks up everything! One amazing feature that I've never seen on another vacuum is the "self-adjusting" head. We can go straight from the carpet onto the wood floors without having to worry about either scratching the floors or it not being low enough to pick up everything off the wood floor. I'm not sure how it works, but it does! The only negatives I have are so small they didn't affect my score: the attachments are a little funky--the suction is SO strong it is sometime difficult to extend the attachment hose all the way. Also finding a spot for all of them is not the easiest (we aren't convinced we have them on right yet). Also, at this price point the cord shouldn't have to be wound. Again, this is the best vacuum I've ever used so far, but from what I understand about Dyson and the fact that it comes with a five-year warranty I fully expect it to be a great vacuum for a long time.

So this being my first Dyson product my expectations were high. We were upgrading from one of the vacuums that claim to be as good as a Dyson vacuum, and honestly we had a great experience with it, but we wanted to see if the hype truly is justified. While the hype is justified, I don't know if such a high price tag is. This is nearly the pinnacle of what I expect a vacuum to do. It really does clean things very thoroughly and very quickly. Everything that it does it does really well. I just don't know if I can ever justify nearly $500 dollars on a vacuum sweeper. That is the price for having the best. I needed assistance on putting the vacuum together. I contacted their support, and it was simply fantastic. It was nothing short of the best customer service that I have ever received. It's not just the vacuum sweeper. It's the sweeper, the customer service, the included five year warranty, and lifetime filter replacements that help justify what is the best vacuum sweeper on the market. The only way I can possibly see them improving is that my old vacuum sweeper had a cool feature that allowed you to press the button and it would automatically retract the power cable. That was an awesome feature, or if it even better just automatically cleaned my house like a Roomba. Lastly the person I lived with really liked the fact that it is considerably more silent than other vacuum sweepers though it still scares my cats. Great job Dyson.

Fantastic vacuum - built to last!

I was excited to receive this new Dyson Ball Animal 2 vacuum, because I have been using a Dyson DC25 for 4 or 5 years now, and really wanted to try the ball-style model. This vacuum did not disappoint! Pros: Dyson quality – very solid build, easy to assemble. I know it is built to last. The ball makes this unit very maneuverable, and it easily moves from wood floors to rugs and carpet. My old one had to be tilted to get onto rugs. No more bending over to switch the brush on – the button next to the power switch is a great addition. The suction is even better than my old DC25, and did a great job on wood floors, tile, and rugs. The front of the vacuum is lower/thinner than before. This makes it better at getting under cabinets, chairs, etc. The upholstery brush works well on our couch to remove dog hair. This is a new attachment that our DC25 didn’t have. The unit has a nice heft to it, without being too heavy. The dirt container is easy to remove and empty. The power cord is longer and sturdier than before. Cons: The attachment holder only holds two of the three attachments. It’s a little harder to lock in upright position than my old one. Of course, I’ve only had it two days, so it may take some practice. No headlight. Overall – this is a great vacuum, well worth the money. Based on my experience with my DC25, I expect this to last 10 years or more.

This is the best vacuum I have owned. The performance is unlike any other vacuum I have used in the past. Having a pet, tying to manage pet hair is a regular task. With my older unit, cleaning up hair and debris required at least two attempts depending on the amount of accumulation. With the Dyson Ball Animal 2, I can get the work done in half the time. One pass with this vacuum over a hair/debris covered area and the space is clean. No need to continuously retrace my steps to redo sections that were not completely cleaned. Attachments: The attachment options put this vacuum in a league of its own. When cleaning in tight spaces (corners, stairs, under furniture), the Dyson Ball Animal 2 makes the task a breeze. Seamlessly transition from carpet to hardwood floors without having to change the mode. The vacuum automatically adjusts and continues to provide powerful suction for debris removal. Cleaning the unit is very easy as well. Simply remove the collection container and dump the contents. This vacuum has amazing versatility and is very light. Carrying up and down stairs is easy. Even my 9 yr old can do it. I would definitely recommend this vacuum to anyone that wants clean surfaces.

I was excited to get this vacuum and get it running! We have 3 dogs and one really sheds. Love her to pieces but oh the hair! Our home was going to be a good test! I've always wondered how good the dyson vacuums are.I decided to compare to my favorite "other" vacuum. My living room, I tried the dyson first and followed up with other. There was a small amount in the other after following the dyson. In our kitchen and hallway, I vacuumed with other first, then followed with dyson. The dyson had about the same amount in the second run just like the living room. What I was really impressed with was how well it fluffed the carpet during vacumming! This was a marked improvement over the other vacuum! To test the tools, we removed the cushions from the couch and attempted to remove the pet hair that has made its way there. My lab lays on the couch all the time when we're not on it so a lot of hair builds up in there. I was truly impressed with the tool that has the small beater bar! It really picked it all up! I've not seen a hand tool work so well! My Dyson is now my new favorite!

So I'm not going to say that I don't have a complaint with the vacuum I do, but they are so small that I ultimately would still consider this to be one of the best vacuums. I want to get into the positives. The value that you get with free lifetime filters is a great start. I personally have two cats and I really need something that keep up with the cat hair. I also use this for cleaning the back of a gaming computer setup that needs to stay cool and it really does take away the cat hair along with everything else really well. It is simply extraordinary. I used it to clean underneath a bed that hasn't been touched in nearly two years and it cleaned it right up. You can clean just about everything with this vacuum sweeper no matter what kind of environment that you are in. I did need some assistance whenever I was setting up the sweeper and their customer service is simply fantastic. They even went ahead and registered the vacuum and setup my warranty with it as well. I wish the setup was a bit more straightforward, but overall I am pretty pleased.

This vacuum has been excellent. It's used on multiple floors, everyday. There's four people, a dog & cat. It's not a lightweight product and may be difficult for someone with a disability or injury to navigate stairs. Overall this thing continues to operate the same as it did when new.
