Good Vacuum, Small Bin
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought this vacuum today from Best Buy. Target has it on sale cheaper (349) but of course my Target doesn’t have any and Best Buy doesn’t price match the week of Thanksgiving. We had a Dyson Animal that we’ve had for many years that decided to stop working. I have 1 room in my main level that has carpet and this did ok. I have a golden retriever and haven’t vacuumed in a while so you can imagine the hair. The bin is small so I had to stop 8 times to empty the bin just going over the carpet. I was much happier with using it on the wood, tile, and area rugs in the rest of the main level. It’s light and quiet. I did the whole main level on 1 charge and most of the time on the 2nd level of power (not sure what to call it). Overall good vacuum but would have been a lot happier if I had only paid 349 instead of 529.99 with tax.

Temperament of an ornery, old goat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this machine in the spring, so I have been using it for a few months. I have a big, fluffy golden retriever and a wiry, black lab, and they both shed a ridiculous amount of hair, so I vacuum a lot. It’s engineered well, and the suction is good, however it has some quirks that are annoying, and I have actually interrupted my vacuuming this morning to air my grievances, which seem to happen every time I use this thing. I need a time-out to decompress before I harm the Dyson. OK, first, it seems that is takes a lot of effort to get it clicked and secured into the upright position. Most of the time it takes two to three times to get it to stay upright. That seems to be quite a flaw in design, it should not take that much effort for such a basic component of an upright vacuum. Also, when transporting the machine to various locations around the house, the mechanism to keep it in the upright position releases, resulting in quite a forceful bang on the floor. That can’t be good for the vacuum or my floor. Another weird thing, which I cannot seem to find anywhere in the troubleshooting material is that when I am vacuuming, it will do this thing where it will sound like there’s an obstruction somewhere in the canister, or in the network where the debris travels to the canister. I would not call it a squealing noise, but its a louder pitched, obstructing noise. Kind of like if I were to suck up an ankle sock. I have inspected this noise thoroughly and came up empty, and I have no idea why it does this, and usually it’s relieved by shutting it off and restarting. Actually, it would not stop making that sound today, which led to me taking the time out to write this review. I have tried keeping the canister empty, checking the path for obstructions to the canister, and cleaning the filters, but it still does it. I am not sure if it affects the suction, but it’s annoying for such an expensive vacuum that’s supposed to be the epitome of vacuums. The last thing that annoys me about this vacuum is the hose. It really just wants to stay where it lives, and I feel like I am wrestling a python whenever I use it. It’s also kind of a PIA to put it back in place, I haven’t quite figured out the trick to getting it right on the first attempt. It should not take this much thinking to operate a vacuum; vacuuming is supposed to be a time to space out and meditate, or get some thinking done; thinking that does not involve the operation of an idiosyncratic vacuum cleaner. I have an old Dyson that I bought back in 2006; I use it for the second floor of my home, and it still works like a champ. I have never had any issues with it; especially the silly issues I have with my new Dyson. The only thing that wore out on that thing is cracks in the tubing, which duct tape repaired well. I have been using a Shark Pet something or other vacuum for the last couple of years before I “upgraded”, and I would have to say that it [Shark] is the superior vacuum. There I said it. I spent the money, and I need to make it work with the Dyson, even if it drives me nuts every time I use it. Maybe Kelly from Dyson will have some insight to my Dyson distress. Well, time to get back to it.

Posted .Hi Megan, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for your review of the Dyson Ball Animal 2. We wouldn't expect there to be any issues with getting your machine locked into the upright position. There will generally be two clicks that you should get when putting the vacuum into the upright position. These clicks are not always noticeable unless put into the upright position at a slower speed. I would recommend putting the unit into the upright position at a slower pace in order to listen to the clicks that occur in order to troubleshoot the problem. One click will be the wheels of the vacuum going into place. The second click will be the wheels locking into place. It is important to ensure the second click occurs as without the second click, stabilizer wheels are not able to lock securely into place.
With regard to the hose, I can confirm that we would essentially expect the hose to become more flexible with time and use. A few tips we can provide would be attaching your accessories directly to your hose, as this will also help expedite stretching the elasticity of the hose. Dyson vacuums are engineered with versatility in mind and attachments may be used on either the wand or directly on the machine itself for added convenience. Also, when stretching the hose out we would recommend starting by stretching the part of the hose that is nearest to the vacuum first when extending this part to clean your home. We would actually recommend checking to ensure the wand is not obstructed and that the hose is not sucking into itself as the hose is not something we would expect to be an issue during use.
While we don't expect issues to occur, Dyson does back your new machine from an authorized retailer with a free 5-year guarantee. We would value the opportunity to assist you, to help ensure your Dyson is working properly. Please feel free to contact us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com. We are keen on providing you with support and learning more about your experience.
Best wishes,
Kelly

Worth Every Penny
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yes Dyson vacuums are expensive, but like many other things in life you get what you pay for. This is my second Animal. I had the original Animal about 10 years ago and lost it in my divorce. I had a Bissell upright with "cyclonic action" but it just didn't compare. When it died recently I picked up the Animal 2. The Animal 2 is every bit as great as the original. Carpets look and feel different under your feet after using the Dyson vs. any other vacuum. Carpets are deep cleaned and their original texture and tuft returns. We run a Roomba around daily and would regularly vacuum with the Bissell. Even so, the first use of the Dyson filled the dust canister. Storage of 2 of the 3 tools is disappointing, but not too big of a deal. Overall it's a great machine.

Best Vacuum Ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned all makes of vacuum cleaner ... Upright and canister ... This one is the BEST. Sucks up pet hair like crazy! Doesn't throw the kitty-litter around either. It's a tad heavier than others and does cost a little more but it's worth it. The only, and mean only, down side is if you have an area rug, you'll have to hold an edge down with your foot so the machine doesn't suck the entire rug up. Love the self-adjusting/adapting feature that allows you to go from carpet, to tile, to hardwood floors. The long cord is an additional benefit.

Didn't Like It
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My vacuum needed to be fixed and I had just moved in to a new apartment so I needed a vacuum. Decided to try Dyson since every store only sells bagless vacuums I really hate bagless vacuums! Why anyone wants to pull the dirt they sucked up out of the canister is beyond me. Then you have filters to wash, no thanks, I will stick with my Miele and a bag. This vacuum is very flimsy. Cheap, cheap plastic. I felt like the vacuum was going to break when i used it. When you put in the upright position to use the hose it has super suction so much that is is loud. The ball technology wasn't impressive either as my Miele with swivel is much easier to steer. In the end I returned it and got mine fixed. I couldn't stand the cheap brittle plastic and would spend each time using it wondering if it would break.

Posted .Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on the Dyson Ball Animal 2. I am sorry to hear you are less than satisfied with the vacuum. Rest assured, Dyson machines are made from polycarbonate ABS which is the same material used in riot shields and crash helmets. We subject them to 50,000 hours of testing and 550 individual tests. All of this to ensure they can withstand a lifetime's hard use.
You may view a short video of the testing process here:

The vacuum's key components have been engineered to fit inside the ball itself. This gives the machine a streamlined profile, allowing access to tight spaces and lowering its center of gravity to make it lighter in the hand.
We understand that you may have already returned your vacuum. However, we would value the opportunity to learn more about your experience. Please contact us at [email protected] with your contact information and we will be happy to help.

Best investment ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I live with my parents so I never buy appliances. I have a beagle which is a nightmare with dog hair. The vacuum my parents bought many years ago was fine at first but as my dog increased her shedding, the vacuum would constantly get clogged. My dad would have to put a wire hanger through and it was just too much. I went away for a year and came back and the floors were basically unvacuumed. It was worse than what I want to admit but the fact that this vacuum got the hair up is amazing. I mean it’s unbelievable really. I have not used the accessory tools yet but I’m sold nonetheless.

Pet Hair Vacuum
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this vacuum! Had a pervious Dyson Animal Vac that lasted a good 8 yrs. Decided to upgraded and made the right purchase. I have a German Shepherd and Choc Lab....with tons of hair!!! In addition, I'm very OCD and this vacuum is amazing. The suction power is phenomenal. Definitely one of the best decisions to stick with Dyson.

Our Dyson was beaten by our dog hair
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased a Dyson Animal 2 years ago. We have 4 dogs and 3 cats and the Dyson sounded like the choice for us. The store salesman sold my wife on investing more for the Dyson. It was powerful and did a good job on the carpet. It did blow the hair on the hardwood if you did not approach the hair from the right side. The hose has remained very stiff and not easily usable. Our dog hair clogged it multiple times and I had to take it apart. The dog hair got in the little floater wheels and had to be cut out often so that the stuck wheels would not streak the floors. After 2 years it has failed. Pros: maneuverable, good suction, great carpet cleaning, easy to take apart for cleaning. Cons: not very sturdy, clogs easily, gets hair in the floater wheels, extension tools are hard to use due to a stiff hose, tips over easily, hair sticks in the canister and must be dug out. Summary: the Animal vacuum was not as awesome as the sales pitch and was a high priced failure for long-hair pet homes.

Hard to push. Poor Dyson product support.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't normally leave reviews but I just got off of the phone with Dyson and I'm in such disbelief by their unwillingness to help that I feel obligated to share my experience. My wife and I bought a Dyson Ball Animal 2 on 10/1/17 from Best Buy. This is the 2nd Dyson Animal we've purchased as we've worn the 1st one out because it was such a great vacuum. However, this experience has been VERY different. We have a very low nap frieze carpet and our previous Animal worked great with it. My wife is 5'4" 115 lbs and I'm 6'3" 220 lbs...this vacuum is so difficult to push that my wife is unable to use it and I am literally breathing heavy by the time I get done using it to vacuum 1 room. I called Dyson for support help and they told me there was nothing they could do. The gentleman went on to say that "it says on our website that it is not compatible with all carpets and we can't help you because you bought it at Best Buy. If you had bought it directly from us we'd do something for you but you didn't." He then said, "I can't see your carpet so there is nothing I can do to help. Best Buy has your money so you need to talk to them." Now...I realize the people reading this review can't see my carpet either but the nap on our carpet is so low that this vacuum would only be good for an indoor/outdoor carpet or hard surface flooring so make sure you know what you're buying. I've now got a $400 vacuum that won't work on my carpet and a company that has supposedly engineered some of the best technology in the industry but is unwilling to even attempt to help or stand behind their product! Again...I'm in disbelief. Do your homework before you buy. Thank you for the opportunity to share my experience. I'm sorry it was a negative one but I hope that it helps someone else in the future.

Great vacuum
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing suction. Slightly heavy to push and can get stuck on carpet due to serious suction, but overall amazing vacuum. I had an older vacuum of the same model and there’s definitely an improvement. Great for pets and allergies.

Meh
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was expecting a life changing first vacuuming with this thing and was honestly really unimpressed. I bought the green Bissell Pet Eraser and was more impressed with that. For much cheaper, you only get 3 amp less suction and not even 1 lb heavier you get just as great of a result. I got the same amount of dirt and hair (two long haired cats & 1 Boston terrier) in one go around the house with the Bissell as this Dyson Animal 2. Going to return the Dyson tomorrow and stick with the Bissell. The suction of the hose on the Dyson could be argued superior. But, the Bissell Pet Eraser vacuum came with more attachment types and they worked fantastic for picking hair up off the couches and cat trees so still would prefer the more affordable, just as good, one.

Horrible hose
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly for the price it should be better but its ok. The suction is super strong i can feel the vaccum pull itself forward from the strong suction. My problem is the hose. Its awful and cheap. Its not very user friendly. Its constantly getting kinked when you suction in corners of stairs or things like that from being at a bent angle. The vaccum always constantly falls over when using the hose.
