    Good for hair, but...

I have been using this "vacuum" for a couple of years now and it really is not worth the money. It clogs like all vacuums do, just more often. Not to hard to clean out. I can deal with that. Sucks up hair on smooth floors really well. Lifts and filters very fine particles very well When something makes it into the canister it stays there until you empty it out. Fantastic! Problem is, only hair and very fine particles actually make it into the canister! For a $600.00 vacuum I expect to be able to suck up a candy wrapper that hasn't been unfolded and smoothed until its flat then discarded on the floor again. Anything thicker than a toothpick is pushed in front of or behind the cleaning head and has zero chance of being lifted from the floor. It also tends to spit heavier particles under the brush head onto your feet. Best example is course ground coffee on a smooth floor - trust me - wear shoes. So this vac sucks - but not like you'd expect.

It would be best if you could try it on your home before you put out the money. It will not work on the carpets in my house. It sucks down so strongly you can’t push the machine. This renders it of no real practical use. I remember Mr Dyson in a old commercial saying he believed things should Just work properly. Sir, oops. One got by you. My wife and I are older now and are not is the shape needed to force the machine to do its job. The Animal 2 while I suppose is good for some people for some homes this isn’t the fact for mine. I’m not good with multi-hundred dollar gambles on equipment you have to guess weather it will work before you buy it. I can’t afford to take and/or lose those types of gambles. I’m sorry but I cannot recommend this product. That is a shame. I to believe that things should work properly.

Hello Jerry, this is Kelly with Dyson. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 was engineered for homes with pets, with features that dig out dirt, hair and allergens. Dyson Ball Animal 2 does feature the strongest suction among our uprights - 270 air watts, for tough tasks across all floors. Dyson machines have higher levels of suction power - while this works for a majority of carpets, there are select fibers that may not be compatible. The air seal would be limited due to the suction power of the machine, from the result of the high suction and the self-adjusting feature. While we don't expect issues to occur, Dyson does back your new machine from an authorized retailer with a free 5-year guarantee. We would value the opportunity to assist you, to help ensure your Dyson is working properly. Please feel free to contact us directly at [email protected]. We are keen on providing you with support and learning more about your experience.

Dyson Ball Animal 2 is junk

My last Dyson Ball lasted about 12 years. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 I bought on 5/6/21 from Best Buy had the roller brush burn out in March 2022 after only 10 months. The roller brush turned fine so I could not figure out where the burning smell was coming from. Thought the belt was worn out but this vacuum does not have a belt. Well, the brush still spins freely when turned by hand but will not turn with the power activated. No more burning smell though. With four furbabies in the house, this vacuum is now useless. I am so disappointed. Plus, the hose never did become more elastic so using the hose attachment was always a fight where I had to hold the vacuum in one place with my foot while pulling stretching the hose out to use it. Junk!

I am very disappointed with this vacuum. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 does not clean longer types of carpet, which is what I have. It clogs up and stalls. There is no information or warning about this prior to my purchase. I called Dyson Customer Service dept and they confirmed that it is not designed to clean longer types of carpet. They did not offer a solution, exchange or credit.

Hi there, this is Carissa with Dyson. We appreciate your continued support and we value your review of your Dyson Ball Animal 2. I'm sorry to hear you've had some difficulties using the machine to clean your carpeting. The Dyson cleaner heads are designed with low profiles to seal to the flooring for optimal suction. We would recommend using a tool without motorized bristles on the carpeting, something like our Flat Out Tool. Every Dyson has something called a thermal cut off, if the air flow cannot get through the unit, the unit shuts itself off as a design feature, so that it does not over heat and damage your motor. Your brush bar will still come on as there is a separate motor for your brush. Usually comes back on within 2 hours and if we just remove the blockage the unit performs as intended. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected]. We are keen on providing support and would value the opportunity to learn more regarding your experience. Dyson quality has significantly declined

The plastic is cheap and soft. The vacuum won't stay upright unless you use a lot of force to lock it in place. The wand feature's hose is super tough to extend and does not give you much range. The canister has difficulties locking back into place after you remove the debris and sometimes it doesn't sit right in the cradle not allowing the unit to suction properly. The bristles on the attachment for the wand are sparse and doesn't do anything but bend and stay bent, One of the rollers doesn't work properly and is just stuck, making it more difficult to push. It's become a pain in the butt to vacuum with this unit anymore and it's not even 6 months old. This unit is junk.

Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on the Dyson Ball Animal 2. I am sorry to hear that you are less than satisfied with the vacuum. Rest assured, Dyson machines are made from polycarbonate ABS which is the same material used in riot shields and crash helmets. We subject them to 50,000 hours of testing and 550 individual tests. All of this to ensure they can withstand a lifetime's hard use.

Very poor performance on certain area rugs. The vacuum sucks up the area rugs so strong that you cannot move the vacuum. It is sometimes ok on area rugs with a tick pad. Otherwise it is awful.

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 was engineered for homes with pets, with features that dig out dirt, hair and allergens. Dyson Ball Animal 2 does feature the strongest suction among our uprights - 270 air watts, for tough tasks across all floors. This Unit will not adjust to different surfaces. When it hits carpet it will stop. suck in the carpet and not move... or barely move. We have 3 of them and all have the same issue. There are no adjustments for suction or surface height. What a 400 dollar waste of money! IF you buy one good luck with tech support. They will tell you the suction is too high. Please tell me something I don't already know. They had no solution. This is a buyer be a ware product!

Hi Nick, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry read your review and learn of your disappointment with your Dyson Ball Animal 2. Dyson ball upright vacuums - including the Ball Animal 2, have an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. Dyson cleaner heads have been designed to maintain optimal contact with flooring to help ensure the best performance across both hard floors and carpet. As a result, while we don't expect problems to occur and experiences can vary from home to home, some high pile carpets may fill in the cleaner head resulting in an airtight seal. While we don't expect issues to occur, Dyson does back your new machine from an authorized retailer with a free 5-year guarantee. We would value the opportunity to assist you, to help ensure your Dyson is working properly. Please feel free to contact us directly at [email protected]. Does not work

I own two dyson vacuums and have loved them! I added the Animal 2 in December when the hose on one of my old ones shredded from age. From the beginning, I had problems with the suction on the Animal 2. It clogged repeatedly and I would unclog it and it would work for a few times, still with poor suction, and then clog and not pick anything up. I totally regret purchasing this product. It sits in my closet collecting dust since it is not worth my time to use a vacuum that does not do its job. This is an expensive vacuum that does not work. Would not recommend this product to anyone.

Hello Mary, this is Kelly with Dyson. It is very unusual to hear that your Dyson Ball Animal 2 is clogging regularly in your everyday use. That being said, frequent obstructions in your machine may occur as a result of poor airflow, which can happen due to an existing obstruction or dirty filters. I am happy to let you know that most blockages are simple to remove and we find that most problems may be resolved through simple, yet effective troubleshooting at home.

    Not for thick carpet

This vacuum is NOT for thick carpet. I had to use both hands and my entire body weight to push it forward so I’ll be returning this vacuum. The little bit of carpet that I did vacuum, though, it picked up a lot of pet hair/dirt which was amazing. Just wish it was able to be used on thick carpet.

Hi Jr, this is Carissa with Dyson. We truly value your purchase of our Dyson Ball Animal 2 and we are pleased to clarify your experience. Our Dyson ball technology allows the vacuums to steer easily into difficult places with a simple turn of a wrist. The vacuum's key components have been engineered to fit inside the ball itself. This gives the machine a streamlined profile, allowing access to tight spaces and lowering its center of gravity to make it lighter in the hand. Additionally, our Dyson Ball Animal 2 will include a quick recline feature. This will avoid the need for pedals or stepping on the front of the machine as with our non-ball models. Rolling the unit around from room to room is recommended to be done with the ball instead of the stabilizer wheels on the back of the ball. You can then put the unit upright once you are done with cleaning and for storage. However, if you are having trouble locking the machine upright after cleaning, your machine would not be performing as designed. Please consider contacting us directly at [email protected]. We are keen to provide support. Best wishes, Carissa Dyson Customer Support Dyson-EN_US
