I love dyson products. Always the best for ppl with asthma and pets. It sucked out soo much dust out of my carpet it shocked me. This saved my allergies aswell. Only flaw it feels kinda cheap cuz of the cheap plastic. Wish it was a thicker plastic that doesn’t scratch soo easily.

Dyson is Excellent For Challenging Grand Kids

I live in North Florida on six acres of land, which is 'paradise', for my Grand Kids to roam, play, and have fun. However, when they come inside for treats from Grandma, meals, or 'potty', they bring the great outdoors in with them. All of my heavy traffic areas get littered with grass clippings, sand, leaves, and an assortment of yard debris as the kids constantly go in and out. The nationally known brand of upright vacuum I used to clean these areas did a credible job, but sometimes I had to use my industrial shop vac to help out because it is more powerful. However, my shop vac was not designed to clean carpets, and, only picked-up surface debris.. Another matter was my youngest Grand Daughter, who is sixteen months, and could spot a cookie crumb on the floor from twenty feet away. She is notorious for putting everything she found on the floor in her mouth. So, it is especially important to keep our floors as clean as possible. When I had an opportunity to receive a complimentary Dyson in exchange for an honest and comprehensive review, I chose the Dyson Ball Animal 2 because it is specifically designed for pets and heavy-duty cleaning, like the challenge of my messy Grand Kids We do not have a pet yet, however, the Grand Kids are 'pushing' that issue with Grandma and me – it won't be long. After two weeks of cleaning with this Dyson I have found it to be amazingly powerful, rugged, and lifts, embedded dirt, sand, and debris from my carpets, upholstery, and hard floors with ease. What impressed me the most was all of the sand I was getting out of the carpet the first few times I vacuumed. Never saw any sand in the housing of my old vacuum, and, now I know why. It's suction was not powerful enough. I estimate that this Dyson removed approximately one and one quarter cups of sand from my carpets the first week alone. WooHoo! It took me several days to get used to the 'maneuvering' with the Ball. The powerful suction of the Dyson allows it to glide almost effortlessly over my floors. I discovered that the Dyson turns and maneuvers easily if you just keep it moving before trying to turn it. Getting used to turn my wrist to change the direction of the Dyson was a learning curve for me. During the first week of vacuuming with the Dyson I kept stepping on the attached electrical cord, especially when I went backwards. There is no cord clip at the top of the handle to help keep the cord out of the way of my feet. But, I found an easy solution to that scenario. I ran the electrical cord through the triangular shaped opening in the handle. The handle is approximately twelve inches above the cord stress-relief attachment, which is high enough to keep the cord from under my feet as I moved the vacuum around. Since I am right-handed I ran the cord through the 'left' side of the handle space so I could wrap the cord up using my right hand when finished with the unit. If you are left-handed go through the right side of the handle. What is also impressive is that the Dyson's powerful suction makes this an excellent dusting and versatile, cleaning tool for under furniture, walls, corners, and ceilings. It comes with attachments for your stairs (under furniture also), combination crevice/brush accessory tool, and upholstery turbine tool, which is so cool. Everything 'clicks' and 'snaps' together for speed and convenience. It takes only seconds to use any of the attachments with the expandable hose and wand. I found that the hose and wand together gives me a generous eleven foot reach. YooHoo! No ladders needed! But I don't have to use the wand for any of the attachments. In fact it gets in the way using the upholstery turbine tool. I use the wand and hose for use under my furniture with the stairs tool. The electrical cord is approximately thirty feet in length, which allows me to move freely about from entrance way to hallway to living room. The unit has an 'ON' and “OFF' switch and a Brush Roll switch. Whenever the unit is in the upright position, the brush roll turns 'OFF' automatically, and for good reason. When you dust or clean other then carpets, keep the unit upright, or, turn the brush roll switch 'OFF'. If the unit is stationary and the brush roll is rotating, because of the powerful suction, it could cause some damage to the carpet. So, the Dyson designers made it so, as long as the unit is in the upright position, the brush roll defaults to 'OFF'. A word of 'Caution' – combined with the suction and brush roll rotation this unit may damage wood or laminate flooring. I found that it was too much for my real wood floors, and turned the brush roll 'OFF'. The powerful suction cleans them thoroughly anyway – no brush roll needed. After using the Dyson for the first week and removing so much sand I decided to clean both of the lifetime, washable filters. Glad I did, the filter in the ball was ready for cleaning. They are both washable and easily removed, but follow the instructions for the ball-filter carefully. I put them both out to dry in the Florida sun. They were completely dry in eight hours. However Dyson recommends a twenty-four hour drying period. The debris bin is so easy to detach and empty – I found it is best to empty in an outside environment – you will be surprised at the amount of dust, dirt, and debris from your flooring this unit will vacuum. Now, I want to mention the 'Wish-It-Had' features, which I think would make this Dyson an even more outstanding cleaning machine. LED lights on the brush roll would help in areas that are dimly lit; A small cord clip on the triangular handle would help to keep the cord from being a nuisance; Storage attachment to carry all three cleaning tools 'on-board' (will only carry one now); A flexible, ninety degree-turning, dusting attachment to clean the top of shelves, ceiling fan blades, furniture, etc. My final thoughts are pretty much aligned with the old adage, “You get what you pay for”. This Dyson undoubtedly is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever used. It's upfront price should be considered with the thoroughness of its powerful cleaning ability, the money saved in not having to buy replaceable filters, and outstanding reputation that Dyson has established as the leader in floor cleaning technology. I highly recommend the purchase of this unit, especially if you have messy Grand Kids, and, or pets – you will not be disappointed.

    Excellent High End Vacuum

This is the first Dyson vacuum that I have ever had the chance to use so I was very much looking forward to seeing if the hype was real. The suction power was as advertised, even picking up the corners of throw rugs, a problem I have never had with several other brands of vacuums. I consider this a good problem to have though, as I know my carpets and floors are getting the high quality cleaning they need. This Dyson was heavier than other vacuums I am accustom to, but not too heavy to operate with ease, as the ball rolls fairly effortlessly. Disposing of the dirt/debris when done was simpler than any other bagless vacuum i have used. With a press of a button, the dirt chamber releases and another button press opens up a bottom hatch to deposit the contents in your garbage receptacle. All the needed attachments that you would expect are included. Detaching the hose and telescoping it to reach high areas was a cinch. The only downside to this vacuum is the hefty price. If price is no object for you, then this is a 5 star cleaning machine. If price is an issue, you can get vacuums that do a very good job of cleaning for less money. They just won't likely have the cleaning power of this Dyson.

    An “Animal” of a Vacuum!

Design: The Dyson Ball Animal 2 has a sleek, modern look with purple accent coloring. It looks and feels like it is made of durable materials, so I am confident that it is built to last. Even if there happens to be an issue in the future, Dyson backs its vacuums with a 5-year warranty, so I am not worried at all! It is nice to have the sense of mind that I have a durable, warranty-backed vacuum that will last. Another aspect of the design that I like is the long cord that minimizes the number of times I need to unplug and re-plug the vacuum into an outlet. Performance/Effectiveness: Dyson advertises that the Animal 2 has the strongest suction of any vacuum, and I certainly believe it. Dirt, dust, and pet fur are gone in one swipe. I simply have never owned a vacuum this powerful, and I am amazed by what it can pick up. The Animal 2 is even effective on our kitchen’s wood floor and our bathroom’s tile. The suction and performance of this vacuum are second to none! As mentioned above, there are attachments included, and I have found them to be very useful. The combination accessory tool, extension wand, and flexible hose help me clean hard to reach places, and the hose is long enough for my needs. Additionally, I really like the stair tool and motorized brush. As implied in the name, the stair tool is designed for cleaning the stairs, and it is effective for that purpose. I use the motorized brush for my couches, and they have never looked better! This tool is also tangle-free, which is great. Ease of Use: Assembling the vacuum is quick and simple, and there are no tools required. With the ball design, the vacuum is also easy to control, even at tough angles, and the base automatically adjusts to the type of surface you are on. All other vacuums that I have used have required manual adjustment for different surfaces, so I quickly noticed the added convenience that the automatic adjustment provides! I also appreciate the release button when emptying the bin. It makes the emptying process fast and hygienic since it prevents human contact with whatever the vacuum has collected. Verdict: After extensive use, I truly believe the premium price point is justified. It performs phenomenally! In addition, the features and tools are useful and effective. I have never used a vacuum this powerful and easy to use, so I would highly recommend the Dyson Ball Animal 2 to those looking for one of the best vacuums on the market.

I ordered this online since it was not available through the store. This vacuum is VERY powerful. What they don’t tell you is it’s so powerful it suction ups to the carpet. I ordered this online and it came in a very damaged box. I was nervous the vacuum would be broken. It was fine when I took it out of the box but then I set it up, turn it on and use it on my short carpets and I can barely push the thing. It was like pushing against a wall. Horrible waste of time and money. They say it’s for both hardwood and carpet but that is not the case at all. 100% would buy if I owned all hardwood flooring. Otherwise, don’t wast your time.

Hello Amber, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear that you have found the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright vacuum cleaner hard to push. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.

Received this today. It's great! I have 2 dogs and 6 cats so I'm perfect for this device. 1. Assembly is extremely easy, no tools required. It's a push and click system that requires very little force and takes 20 minutes to get up an running. Very user friendly. 2. Suction on this is as advertised, on my first run the vacuum was even picking up the pet fresh powder I use that my previous vacuum left behind. Made the rug stand and looked great. 3. The ball system is just a great way to use a vacuum. It's makes manoeuvering the vacuum so much easier and it's less strain on your joints, great for someone with hand, arm and wrist injuries. 3. Light, very light. This surprised me as it's a well built system and well built usually comes with weight. 4. The wand is ok it's going to take a little while to get used to but the suction is great and cleans the cat tree with ease. My only negative and it's a personal preference and that is at this price I'd love a retractable cord instead of a self wind. Negligible I know.

I’ve sort of struggled with vacuum cleaners ever since I had my first apartment. I’ve had mid-level vacuums that get the job done most of the time, but when I moved into my current home, I started going through vacuums ever couple of years. We have an indoor dog and three adults and one teen living in the house. I’ve found that our HVAC system pushes out a lot of dust and we are constantly fighting the dog hair/people living environment. The Dyson Animal 2 is designed to handle these types of circumstances. It picks up even the tiniest of hairs and sucks up dust and dander. When I first saw the specs for the unit, I really didn’t believe that it would do that much better of a job. I was wrong. First, the innovative design of the vacuum makes it move much smoother over carpet than any other vacuum I’ve had. In fact, that was always a pet peeve of mine — when a vacuum would seemingly get ‘stuck’ on the carpet when I was trying to turn. The Dyson Animal 2 literally glides across the carpet like an ice skater does on ice. Turning is very easy and I’ve not had it get stuck once. Second, the Animal 2 is bagless. For a long time, I didn’t like bagless vacuums. I thought they caused more of a mess when you emptied them than a bagged vacuum did. The Dyson has changed my perception of that, too. While I still have to pull out bigger clumps of dirt, the mechanism on the canister makes it really easy to empty. The canister lifts off the main vacuum seamlessly and it clicks easily back into place when you are done. Finally, the power and suction of the Animal 2 is top-notch. I recently found myself remodeling my home office. When I did, I moved a large organ that the previous owners had left behind. Because this is such a large piece of furniture, it doesn’t get moved regularly. I found clumps of dust and debris beneath it. The Animal 2 cleaned it all up in a single pass. This was very impressive to me because I usually have to go over a spot two or three times to make sure it’s completely clean. The Dyson did it with one. The Dyson Animal 2 is well worth the investment. While I’ve only had it for a week at this point, it seems like it’s solidly built. I suppose time will tell about it’s longevity, but for now, I just hope that it continues to perform as it has out of the box.

We have another brand that claims to be as powerful as a Dyson but at a fraction of the price. Well, you get what you pay for. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is the champ. After running the other vacuum, the Dyson arrived via UPS. After assembling the Dyson (first ding, see below), we did the first test run that ended up being a full run as it sucked up a lot that the other vacuum missed. Wow! The attachments are very creative in design. The wand also doubles as the brush attachment by sliding the brush down the wand attachment. Storing the attachments is like most other vacuums, click into the storage areas (Second and Third Dings). Operation is smooth and the vacuum turns on a dime. The durability seems to be adequate, but not quite at the level of other Dysons we have owned. Standing in an upright position is an odd experience at first. (Fourth Ding) After a few falls, we are starting to get use to it. First Ding - the instruction/quick start card is attached to the 2nd part you attach. The pictures are on the small side and not the easiest to understand. Second Ding - the picture on the quick start is not very clear as to how the storage clip attaches. A somewhat major assumption is made by whoever designed the quick start. Third Ding - there is nowhere to store the upholstery attachment. My son vacuumed the house with the attachment still on the handle, but still did better than the other vacuum. Fourth Ding - it takes some practice to get the vacuum to stay in a upright locked position. I find myself pushing forward a little past where I feel comfortable pushing to get it to lock in upright position. It has already fallen over a couple times as we get use to it. CONCLUSION: All in all, the issues are very minor. Enough to drop it from 5 star, but not enough to give it a 4 only. Wish there were half stars. Dyson is still the champ when it comes to vacuums. Other brands can make claims and "perform" tests, but we are glad we are back in the Dyson camp. As a side note, there is a rather odd graphic on the purple side of the quick start. It appears to say plug in. Then a second picture gives a warning exclamation about unplugging. Not sure what these pictures are meant to mean when taken together. Never unplug? See attached picture.

In a nut shell, the brush bar of the vacuum broke at about the 7 month mark. History, I have owned a ball animal V1 for about 8 years with minimal wear and tear issues. Was expecting the same life out of this new one. However it broke in under 1 year. Looking into warranty. But to sum this vacuum up, its not like it use to be, beware. Also I have 1 loving German Shepherd that I use this vacuum for :)

The Good, the Bad and the Great

The Good: The Dyson has a good beater bar and is easy to maneuver. The Bad: My Dyson came and I did not have a lot of time before I was leaving town, but I wanted to unpack and assemble it before I did. I did not think it would take as long as it did. While the packaging kept the parts from breaking, it also made it slightly difficult to remove from the outer box. The base of the vacuum kept hanging up on something when trying to pull it out. The box was so long, you can't reach into it. A side opening box would have been much easier. Once outside the box, I started the assembly process. I tried to follow the quick setup illustrated card that was hanging on the handle, and while the illustrations were quite good, I had some difficulty figuring it out. Compared to my Shark, I found the assembly and concept more complicated. I still haven't interpreted some of the illustrations in the operating manual. Once together, I plugged it in, turned it on and tilted the handle back. The stabilizer stand is supposed to automatically lift up when the handle is reclined. Mine does not do this. I still haven't figured out if it's a defect or something I did during assembly. I have to force the head down by gently stepping on the front of the vacuum. The Great: Once I started vacuuming however, I was pretty impressed. We have a dog that sheds extremely heavily. I had just vacuumed my living room a couple of hours earlier with my Shark Navigator, so I was not expecting much in the canister. Not only did it pick up tons of hair, but fine particles and dirt also. Overall, I like the quality and ease of use of my Shark better than the Dyson. Both have wands and can clean multiple surfaces. The Dyson , however, does seem to clean better and that's what I want most out of a vacuum.

Typical Dyson quality with a few quirks

This Dyson Ball Animal 2 is replacing my aging DC07 Dyson. Aesthetically it's great and really shows the ingenuity of the Dyson design department. Since my DC07 is pretty much on its way out, this Animal 2 is a welcomed replacement. As far as sucking, this does just that. Due to the age of my DC07, it's suction power was greatly diminished. The Animal 2 has very strong suction and way more than my DC07 did when it was new. The active base plate works quite nicely and eliminates the need to manually switch your vacuum to different floor types. I have medium pile, shag rugs and hardwood floors in my place and this Dyson automatically adjusted to each floor type with ease. Much nicer as opposed to my other vacuum where you must turn a knob when changing to different floor types. It did have a bit of trouble on a 2-inch-thick shag rug I have but that's kind of to be expected. Noise wise, it’s a vacuum so it’s about the same as any other I’ve used. Not quiet but not too loud either. Having come from the DC07 to this, the Ball took a little while getting used to in terms of maneuverability. It is somewhat easier back and forth however going around corners is a little awkward. I’m sure in time that I’ll get accustomed to it but just something to note. Couple minor issues I have is with the attachment mount and the bin release button. The included attachment mount slides onto a rail on the main tube. Issue I have is that it protrudes a bit outwards and sometimes bumps up against the canister. This is noticeable when you’ve emptied the bin and try to put it back on the vacuum. And the bin release button on the canister isn’t quite as functional as it was on my DC07. When I clicked the button on the DC07, the bottom lid would drop all the time. With the Animal 2, it hangs so you need to manually open the lid every time you empty the bin. This might get better over time however it just isn’t as smooth as I had been accustomed to. Overall, it’s a Dyson. Yes, it’s quite expensive for a vacuum however, based on my ownership of the DC07, it lasts and works great. I have a couple other canister vacs and each of them work as intended. However, compared to the Animal 2, this picks up dirt/debris that the other vacuums miss.

Let's admit - vacuuming is not everybody's favorite chore to do, so choosing the right vacuum cleaner is very important to ease the trouble. Cordless machines and even vacuuming robots seem to be a great option, but only a line powered machine would have enough suction power for a nice thru cleaning. Power alone is not everything, compact easy to maneuver design is important as well, no one would like to haul a shop vac (which has plenty of power but awkward to move) behind. I've tried many models and settled on Dyson 6 years ago (I own a cordless and 1st generation multi-floor Dysons), I was excited to try this new model now! Assembly and first impressions: It's pretty straightforward to put together - just couple main parts, only go together one way. Machine is equipped with a long 25' cord and detachable accessory hose reaching impressive 14' away from the machine's location. Assembly instructions are well illustrated and easy to follow. Vaccuum cleaner is equipped with electric power brush, accessory hose, upholstery attachment, wand/brush and a small air powered brush. All accessories with the exception of small power brush (that is the only negative point I've found) could be stored on the vacuum's body and easily accessed during vacuuming. Usage: Very nice and easy to maneuver around, new "ball" construction makes it possible to operate the machine only using one hand - just grab the handle, pull it down towards you - and start moving! The heaviest part of the machine - it's motor, is located at the very bottom, makes it extremely easy to move. Big powered brush has a fast spinning cylinder which fluffs up the carpet making it feel like it's almost new again. It also "brushes up" a lot of dirt, debris, hair, etc, making cleanup an easy process. Just make sure to turn the power brush OFF, if you cleaning something that was just spilled, especially on the hard surface (hardwood, tile, etc) - otherwise power brush will just shoot the debris towards you with a good enough force that it won't be sucked in, but end up behind you instead. Attachment wand is extremely easy to pull out and put back in as well making accessory use an easy task. After cleanup: It's a bagless vacuum, so most of the cleanup is fairly easy - take the dust storage bin off the machine, hold it above the trash can and push the button, everything just falls into the trash! However you may still need to reach into the bin with your hand to pull out some loose hair that has a tendency to wrap around the cyclone system. Also - bin itself kinda collects static charge and some dirt may still hang onto the bin walls. Every 2 months there is an extra step - pull out both filters (1 in the dust bin - filter "A" and the 2nd one - filter "B" is in the "ball" - just twist off the purple screw on the side of the ball until it comes off) and wash them with water. I usually take them outside and wash with a hose, also give dust bin and cyclone system a good wash. Overall: Excellent machine with attachments for a tough cleaning jobs!

My new Dyson came just as I needed to leave for out of town. I wanted to assemble it quickly and try it out before I went. Getting the pieces out of the box was a little tricky since the main unit kept getting caught up on something and the box is so deep you can't reach the bottom. Once I had everything out of the box, I started to put the pieces together using an illustrated card that came attached to the handle. This too, too much longer than I anticipated, since the illustrations were difficult to decipher for some of the pieces. I looked in the large manual, which had more illustrations, and some written instructions, and finally got it assembled. When I first tried it out, I could not get the back wheels to disengage, so I had to push down on the front part of the machine to vacuum, but eventually I figured out how to bend it back properly to disengage on its own. I had just used my Shark Navigator a few hours earlier so I didn't think the Dyson would pick up much. I was surprised at what it picked up! We have a dog that sheds profusely and not only did it pick up hair, but lots of fine dirt particles. The suction does seem to be superior. I like the Shark better for ease of use and small features like a cord clip and handle for when using the tube part on the couch, but the Dyson does seem to clean better, which is most important.

I’ve been skeptical about Dyson vacuums. I have seen the commercials showing all the technology in their products which makes them look impressive but I was not quite sold. I thought our vacuum seems to have plenty of suction and cleaning power, how much of an improvement could a Dyson really be? Well, after using this one I have come to this conclusion: Dyson is the real deal. Its cleaning power is amazing, especially on carpet. It is very maneuverable, I l love the way it glides on the ball which makes it easy to turn. It also lays down much flatter than our previous vacuum which allows us to get underneath our bed and vacuum where our dog likes to sleep. It is far less bulky and lighter than our Bissell which it is replacing. To prove whether or not the Dyson Ball Animal 2 is really that good, I waited for our housekeepers to finish cleaning our home and I went to our bedroom and vacuumed with the Dyson to see if I could vacuum up anything after the cleaners had already vacuumed. Attached is a picture, and this was only our bedroom. It picked up bunches of our dog’s hair out of our carpet even after our cleaners had already vacuumed. Well, I am sold! The Dyson Ball Animal 2 does command a steep price tag so time will tell if it is justified in the long run (and it does come with a 5 year warranty). But the cleaning power of this vacuum is incredible, and it is certainly the best vacuum cleaner I have ever used.

There has always been a lot of hype around Dyson vacuum cleaners, and when it came time to get a new vacuum, I decided to give Dyson a try. Plus the great prices that Best Buy had during the Black Friday sale, made it an easier decision. This really is an amazing product. It moves with ease on any surface, and it gets so much more out of the carpet areas than my last vacuum, especially the pet hair. Comes with a variety of great attachments as well. I never thought I'd be excited about a vacuum, but I highly recommend this product.
