We purchased this vacuum to replace our existing Dyson that we've had for about 10 years. While it doesn't feel as solid as our old Dyson, it still works just as well. We have three dogs, so it's already been getting a lot of use, and does a great job. I wish that Dyson had not gotten rid of the foot lever for the upright/vacuum positioning, and replacing the hand-held hose on the vacuum body takes some getting used to, but it's still a quality product. Overall, for the money, a very good vacuum!

Easy to use and has a deep cleaning suction but pushing it on a rug or carpet is rather difficult and heavy.

Works perfectly most of the time The ball mechanism is a bit touchy - if you turn it at too sharp of an angle, can come detached but hooks back together very easily in seconds. Vacuums like no other vacuum I have ever had before. One improvement would be to have a hose option for the hand held - currently only has a pole which makes it difficult to use in that way.

The finest vacuum we have ever purchased. After nearly 30 years of going thru "junk" more common brands this vacuum has exceeded expectations. It has a smooth roll on all kinds of carpet thicknesses and sucks up debris and dirt that our other vacuums left behind. If you are done wasting time thinking there is no good vacuum option out there...You owe it to yourself to get this vacuum!!

Bias alert - I had the Animal for about 8 years before buying the Ball Animal 2. This thing works like a wonder. It may take a minute to get used to the steering of the ball, but it becomes intuitive. I love how clean it gets things. It's a solid decision, and as long as it holds up as well as my last Dyson, game on. Two labrador retrievers make this a constant companion for a clean house.

Ok, let me just say that Dyson vacuums are the best!! And the animal has been great for sucking up the stinkin hair my Australian Shepherd sheds constantly and all the stuff kids spill (including glitter!). I highly recommend the warranty in case ya suck up anything crazy because they just give you a new vacuum!

I'm not sure yet whether we're going to keep this vacuum. Out of the box the suction was so strong we could barely move it across our deep pile carpet. Way too much force was required. Doing a little online research showed many customers with the same complaint, but somebody seems to have cracked the code on how to mitigate this. Removing filter cover on the ball section, you can see where there are two arrows that are supposed to be lined up. As others have mentioned, ours from the store had come slightly misaligned. After rotating the arrow to match the other arrow, we found that we were able to use the vacuum on the carpet. It's still pretty hard to push, but not nearly as hard as it was before we made this little adjustment. This product was way too expensive to have the sort of problem out of the box. I hope the manufacturer or resolve this for future products. This machine replaced a Dyson Ball Animal from 10 or more years ago, so we are familiar with the brand and how expensive these vacuum cleaners are.

Hello Kevin, this is Kelly with Dyson. I'm sorry to hear that you have found the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright vacuum cleaner hard to push. The Dyson Ball Animal 2 features Dyson ball technology, which allows for easy navigation with the turn of a wrist. The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor.

We bought this following having had a Roomba for about a year. We have a German Shepherd that sheds a ton in the house. We could always notice some hair laying around but he Roomba did fairly well across the hardwood but not as well in the thick rugs. The first pass with this Dyson over a 5'x7' rug almost completely filled the bin with dog hair you couldn't even see that must have been stuck deep in the rug. It works as great as expected!

    Good But Has Issues

I suppose the real test of a vacuum is how long it lasts, but I've only had it around a month. So far, it works well, but there are a few things. I was under the impression that I was buying a model that automatically adjusted between hardwood and carpet, and this one does not. You have to push a button for carpets. Also, I've seen reviews that say that it's really easy to move and almost pulls you along. That is not at all true for me. It's just as hard to push, if not harder, than my old vacuum. I also don't feel that the ball helps in maneuvering. I still have to lift the vacuum to get it into some spaces. My old vacuum, and in fact every vacuum I've ever owned, had a button to release it from the upright position, but this one does not, and so far I've had to kind of slam it down to get it to unlock. That's probably not going to last well. But in terms of actual cleaning, which is the whole point of it, it does really well. It picks up a lot of stuff. I just hope it will last as long as so many people say theirs did. I'm skeptical.

Hello Susie, this is Kelly with Dyson. I can confirm for you that Dyson Ball vacuum cleaners operate with a quick recline feature. This will avoid the need for pedals or stepping on the front of the machine as with our non-ball models. Rolling the unit around from room to room is recommended to be done with the ball instead of the stabilizer wheels on the back of the ball. You can then put the unit upright once you are done with cleaning and for storage.

With regard to using your Ball Animal 2 on both hard floors and carpeting, you can. The brush bar can be disabled for those times when you don't wish for that to be in use. When your machine is turned on and reclined, the brush bar will automatically be rotating. Pressing the brush bar power button will disable that for you.

So far I am very pleased with this vacuum. It has more suction than any that I have used before and does a great job on my carpets. There was a bit of a learning curve to get the hose back into its slot. :) The only thing that bothers me is that when I pull it back onto its wheels to roll and put away it snaps back down flat all the time.

Wow. That's really all there is to say. Loads of suction. We got this to replace a Shark Navigator that kept tripping our arc fault breakers. Since Dyson uses brushless motors there is zero motor spark so the arc faults no longer trip. Definitely a win win since it has way better suction than the Shark too. Wish I would have purchased it sooner.

I had the first generation Dyson low reach vacuum and was a little apprehensive about if a smaller machine could do the same work my tried and true first gen unit I gifted to a family member did. I was absolutely blown away by the incredible performance and maneuverability of this new ball style vacuum. I am consistently impressed with the dust and debris that this machine pulls out of our carpet weekly.
