A vacuum too powerful to use

We replaced with the Animal 2 because we had no intention of trying anything new. The Animal 2 touts best in class suction and boy does it suck (no pun intended). It works outstanding on hardwood floors and when using the attachments, the power continues to shine. The downside is the suction is so great that when we use it on our area rugs, it clamps down so much you cannot push it forward. We have reverted to lifting it up, placing it in an area and pulling back to be able to vacuum the rugs. It is too much of a hassle for my wife so I am now the relegated rug vacuumer. Needless to say, they have improved the suction but they have decreased the functionality.

We're glad to hear that you have found the suction and performance from the Ball Animal 2 to be so great on your hardwood floors, and when using the attachments, either on the wand or hose. The Ball Animal 2 was engineered for homes with pets, with features that dig out dirt, hair and allergens. Dyson Ball Animal 2 does feature the strongest suction among our uprights - 270 air watts, for tough tasks across all floors. This vacuum has been certified to be asthma and allergy friendly, along with having whole-machine HEPA filtration.
The cleaner head on this machine is self-adjusting, meaning that it raises and lowers to seal in suction across all floors. Ultimately, the machine being hard to push will likely be the result of suction forming an air tight seal between the cleaner head and the floor. This is especially true on area rugs that aren't fixed down to the flooring underneath; the suction creates a seal to the floors surface, under the rugs or carpet.
