Dyson makes one of the best vacuum cleaners, period. We have owned 3 now over the last 20 years. We have also tried others, and nothing compares.

GOOD - Long cord - Good suction - End-user serviceable design - Fairly compact BAD - Doesn't steer as easily as other swivel heads - Fixed extension wand can get in the way - Cleaning on hard floors could be better - Runs hot DETAILS Dyson vacuums are well known for their performance and reliability. My experience with this rendition of their Ball design bears that out, and I've been largely pleased with it. The Animal version of the Ball is marketed specifically at people with pets, to clean up the hair from carpets and furniture. I find it's also handy if you or the people you live with have long hair. In general, it cleans quite well. It has very powerful suction and the power bar base has three settings for deep pile carpet, normal carpet, and hard floors. The power bar itself can also be toggled on and off. I found it cleaned my carpets quite well, though cleaning my hardwood left a little to be desired ( the instruction manual recommends turning the power bar off for this, I'm not sure why ). It also has a very generous cord length. And though Dyson created the Ball design specifically to make it easier to steer the vacuum around corners and obstacles, I find it much stiffer to turn than other current swivel head vacuums. I appreciate Dyson's design in the vacuum. It's fairly modular, making it relatively easy to service and maintain yourself, provided you can get a replacement part. The filters are washable so you can reuse them instead of constantly buying new replacements. It also keeps things slim and trim so the vacuum is a little more compact than other full-size uprights. This particular model also comes with two extra attachment tools. One is an upholstery brush/cleaner, the other is a pet grooming tool that's supposed to suck up the shedded hair as you brush. How well your pet will handle being brushed near a vacuum remains to be seen. But sometimes I think it tries to be too clever. It uses a friction snap instead of a pedal to release the vertical lock. It's usually fine, but it also means you can accidentally release the upright lock when you don't want to, like if you want to tilt the vacuum back and roll it somewhere or even if you pick it up and then set it down. The extension wand is stored inside the hose in the main column. This is nice for reducing the exterior dimensions, but it also means you have to unwind the entire cord and slide out the entire wand when you want to do some quick spot cleaning. You can detach the wand from the hose if you don't need or want the reach, like in a small corner or nook, but in those moments where you just want to quickly clean up some cookie crumbs or dust bunnies, it's more involved than you might be used to. The main handle is also reversed to accommodate the extension wand, putting the main column below your hand instead of above it when you're using the vacuum. This means the vacuum tilts back farther than others when using it. For myself, I found my legs and knees bumped into main unit a lot since it was now leaning more toward me. Most of these complaints are small quirks, admittedly. They may or may not matter to you. All in all, it's a well built vacuum, it cleans well, and it stores easily. It does have a few quirks and the "exhaust" air is quite hot, but these are minor complaints on an otherwise great vacuum.

I have a blue heeler that sheds non stop everyday this finally has helped manage it and has ungodly powers picking up hair

Have been a Dyson customer for many years, but this vacuum is horrible. Extending hose makes vacuum fall over and the steering of the ball is horrible.

Love this vacuum, it picks up the courses dog hair. With having an Akita its well worth the money.

Very flimsy, doesnt fit under my coffee table, comes apart at base easily when lowering handle to vacuum.

This is a BEAST of an ANIMAL Dyson Animal 3 has got it right this can deep clean the carpet or other floors. With 5 attachments runs on a roller ball and is bagless. I have an older vacuum and a smart vacuum they don't clean like this. I have a light shaggy carpet and this has brought it back to the fluffy way we bought it. I run the smart vacuum about 3 time a week and this Animal was getting a deep clean even after i ran my other vacuum. The Dyson is heavy there is some effort is using the vacuum on the carpet but the end result is worth it. you can see the Difference in the carpet. The 5 attachment are great they even have a dog brush witch is very helpful. Another is what they call a Tangle-Free Turbine Tool I have not seen this before but it runs great on the couches Keeps the microfiber clean. Also gets all the hair off of it. There is a long wand with the ability to use the bush that is attached to it clean the corners or hard to reach spots. Also a stairs tool witch is always great to have i don't need to lug ths up and down my stairs it is heavy. Its nice not to have to have a bag just open the trash and pop open the bottom of the dirt trap and that's it. the hose on this is a little stiff hope it gets a little better with time. The bad part is you can only put 1 tool on this you have to put the others away i would like to have them all when I'm cleaning instead of going back to get what i need. I has 3 levels for the head of the vacuum to adjust for what area your cleaning. The colors are nice this isn't very big so it wont take up a lot of space. The power cord is 35ft long that works just great. Overall this is a great vacuum i will enjoy seeing my carpet as fluffy as when i had it installed.

The roller appears to be mush nicer no hair to untangle. Vacuum power is unbelievable.

Worst vacuum I've ever used. Unless you're wanting traction for your back or shoulder surgery, dont get this vacuum. Handle is wobbly, and not strong enough for vacuum. Hose is ridiculously hard to use.

Typical Dyson quality and function. The self cleaning feature is a wonderful bonus!

Expensive vacuum but worth every penny. Dyson is a cut above other brand vacuums.

I previously had a Dyson and it was wonderful. This was not. I had to return it. It really only worked on hard floor surfaces. I could not vacuum rugs.

We have cats, so it is amazing for pet hair. Plus doesnt collect in brush !
