A: It works well on hard floors and carpet. The only problem I have is the suction is too strong for my extra thick area carpet (about 2inches deep) so it stops like something is stuck.
Q: How to use the wand/ And how to put it back/
A: Not as simple as the DC15 I had which is disappointing. Pull up on the red portion and remove, extend tube until it clicks. Always be sure to extend tube until it clicks. To put it back, press button on hose end push long tube into hose while being gentle with hose to ensure long life, ensure hose end is below the rear protruding portion of the gray handle and align in straight up and down position, push red part of tube down into handle, flip red cap at top.
