Part that helped the vacuum stand up on its own didn't work and if you put any sort of downward pressure on the vacuum while in use it was make a god awful squeak noise

Absolutely the most powerful vacuum ever. We have a large very hairy/“sheddy” dog and I love the dog grooming tool (one of the reasons I bought this version was to get that attachment.) My criticism with this model is the same as for others, dislike having to unwrap the power chord to use the wand, and the wand is not that user friendly.

Decent vacuum for a house full of pets and kids

I do have very thick plush carpet, but did not have this problem with my previous non-ball Animal Dyson. I think this would be best for low pile carpet or bare floors.

Dyson vacuum does a great job with both carpets and floors. I have used it to suck up all the dust on my blinds and other hard to reach shelves and corners. I'm happy with the Dyson.
