At this point, I’m not sure where the name Dyson stands when it comes to the vacuum cleaner industry. They are definitely one of, if not the, most innovative companies in the game. The move a few years back to the cordless wand vacuum was bold but proved to be worthy of attention. I have a couple of older Dyson wand vacuum cleaners, and they have been very useful. One problem though, I’ve always felt the need to have a larger vacuum for some jobs/flooring (longer carpet). Enter the Dyson Outsize – an odd name, but I think I get it. At first glance, it appears that Dyson is doing something I’ve been pining over for years – a single cordless vac that I can trust to confidently take care of all my vacuuming needs. The package is standard Dyson: great box with enough information to fill an entire website and a well packaged product; every part and attachment carefully protected by purposed cardboard pieces. The very first thing you notice unboxing the Outsize is the size of it. It’s straight up wand-vac WOW! The cannister has to be about 3 times the size of my old V10! There is also a filter in the very back of the cannister with an LCD screen. The cleaner head is also much larger and has a debris height slider on it. Other than that, the form factor is very familiar. I assembled the Outsize for standard floor vacuuming in less than a minute; yes, it’s that simple. Of course, Dyson includes a plethora of cleaning tools, attachments, and a hanger to round out your vacuum cleaning experience. This particular version includes a couple of handy exclusives – more on those in a moment. The next huge thing that stood out to me when unboxing was the battery situation. The battery is detachable, and the Outsize comes with a second battery. Finally, a way to replace my battery on my cordless vac without disassembly. Add to that, a second battery in the box to increase my usage time… Outstanding! Yes, there was a lot of love going on during the unboxing of this baby, but it was quickly put on pause while I waited nearly 5 hours to charge the battery! Yep, you need to put the Outsize on charge and go do something else for a bit. The battery charge level is displayed on the LCD screen. Well, enough of that. Let’s power this thing up. First, I was a bit concerned about the size: Will it be heavy? After putting it on the floor, it felt fine, maneuverable, and easy on the wrist. Dyson wand vacs are simple and easy to use. Pull the trigger and use accordingly. The Outsize is no different. When you start vacuuming, you immediately notice two huge differences in the Outsize and the older, smaller V series vacuums: effortless power and quieter sound. The LCD displays the vacuum cleaner’s mode. There are 3 modes: eco, auto, and boost. The default is auto, and let’s just say it gets the job done. I didn’t feel driven to try either of the other 2 modes as I began cleaning my floors. I started on a mid-level carpet, and performance was fantastic. On auto, it felt as if I was using a larger vacuum instead of a wand. I could really feel that the Outsize was vacuuming the floor well, brushing the carpet well, and using powerful suction to pick up debris. I never felt the need to use boost mode. By comparison, I would often feel the need to use the MAX button on my older V series vacs from Dyson – not the Outsize. I did of course try the other modes: boost offered more suction power, while eco still outperformed my old Dyson vacuum cleaners. While running, the LCD not only shows the current power mode, but also displays remaining run time. The LCD screen also provides assistance with blockages and maintenance, even providing a tutorial or help guide when needed. As I finished vacuuming my carpet, I quickly transition to the hardwood in the hallway. The Outsize intelligently adjusted the power as it sensed me moving from carpet to a hard surface. It was just as responsive and adaptive as I transitioned back to carpet from a hard surface. This is great stuff. I like most, if not all of the tools Dyson provides with its wand vacuums, but this edition of the Outsize is somewhat of a Best Buy exclusive, or special edition, if you will. It has 2 brand new tools that are very useful. The first is the low-reach adapter. At first, I felt this was useless overkill. The Dyson wand vacuums flatten out pretty well when reaching under furniture, but I was wrong. Attaching this adapter gives the vacuum more leverage as you lower the cannister to the floor to reach under something, and it provides a little more freedom when swiveling the head. There is also a light pipe crevice tool. I’m not sure why this isn’t the default for all crevice tools at this point. It just makes sense – it’s so much easier to clean what you can see, right? It works very well, and more-so with the very powerful motor on the Outsize. The hair tool is another one to note. It’s new and improved, and much more user-friendly. Somehow, it’s open-ended, preventing hair from getting tangled in the roller. It has a neat mechanism allowing removal of the roller for easy cleaning. These additions/changes have made this the most useful set of tools I’ve had with a Dyson, and that’s saying a lot. Remember the cannister size? Yeah, that thing is huge, and you can probably vacuum the entire house without emptying it – some people do that anyway, but in this case, it probably won’t need to be emptied. When you do empty it, it is a much easier (and cleaner) experience than in times past, as debris just drops right out of the bin, cleanly. Nice! Should you buy one? If you are looking for the ultimate rechargeable vacuuming system, this should already be in your cart. It’s powerful, flexible, innovative, has 2 removable batteries, and is backed by the Dyson name. I will not be picking up my full-size vac again after using the Outsize – it gets the whole job done! There are moments where you feel a product designer listened to your product issues and resolved them; this is one of those times for me. I could go on and on about this thing, but at some point, it just is what it is: An outstanding whole home vacuuming system!

The Dyson Outsize Total Clean Cordless Vacuum knocks the competition out of the running with this new iteration of their popular Cordless Vacuums. The Outsize is king-sized offering power in abundance, attachments galore, and holding capacity that will rival corded competitors. The Dyson Outsize is a total game changer from previous versions. It have power to spare and a back up battery if you need more so it is always ready when you need it. The Outsize has automatic power adjustments as you move from bare floor to thicker carpet and boosts as needed to get the job done. Loved the low-reach joint attachment as we have dogs and have to move the furniture nearly every time we vacuum, but not any more. The lighted suction tool is a nice feature to help see the hard to reach and dark areas, but I wish it was on other attachments as well. I was shocked as to how heavy this vacuum was for a cordless and portable. It may not be the best option for a small apartment or someone who may tire easily as you carry the full weight of the business end in your hand. So many attachments you do not know what to do with them - a bit overkill honestly - if there was a bag or storage option, this would have made more sense. PROS - Dyson technology, innovation, and brand! - Power for hours - Removable battery - Effective attachments for the different jobs - Corkscrew designed beater-bar hand tool to easily remove tangles - Digital display screen with language options - Large capacity holding tank - Easy to used attachment designs - Lighted attachment CONS - Heavy - Too many attachments with nowhere to store them If you want corded power with the convenience of cordless - the Dyson Outsized is your new vacuum!

Efficient. Cleans well, especially pet hair. We have a small dog that sheds, this vacuum takes care of all the hairy mess. If there is only one issue is that the handle is a bit heavy because the canister is larger than the other models. That is why it is the outsize. We knew this before buying so it is not an issue for us.

First time I used it, it got clogged and wouldn’t work anymore until I spent 15 minutes digging the smallest old navy tag ever out of the super long tube and chasing it from one end to the other. Such a hugeeeee disappointment!!! The suction near the edges is wonderful, it does a great job there, the batteries tie forever to change the first time (4+ hrs) the vacuum itself is heavier than I wanted and having to hold the trigger the entire time you’re vacuuming could certainly get old quickly. Emptying the bin is easy, I had to empty it after doing just my living room, whereas a standard vacuum I can do my whole house before needing to empty it… I’d wanted a Dyson forever and finally decided to get one, a really nice expensive one, and I just don’t think it’s worth the money. Maybe I would’ve been happier with a less expensive version but having it stop the first time I used it for a small paper tag (that was underneath my dresser so I didn’t see it) was a huge let down.

Let me first just say for a vacuum that retails for $850 I find it humorous that it does not have a vacuum light, you have to turn on the lights in your house so you can see what you are actually vacuuming since there is no light to guide you in darker areas. I really enjoy the design and how easy it is to access your vacuum wirelessly without having to roll up a cord, I do wish the suction was stronger for how expensive it is. My shark did a much better job on carpets but I like this one for hardwood floors.
