Purchased this item after seeing that my total tech support included free installation. Installers arrived only to tell me they could not install Ecobee thermostats.

The new Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium is an upgrade to their previous top of the line thermostat in almost every way. From a better design, larger display, and additional sensor features this thermostat represents the best that Ecobee has to offer. The new design with the metal finish around the edge looks and feels better than older plasticky Ecobee designs. The metal is mostly fingerprint resistant and the front display feels great to use with a low surface friction that allows your finger to glide and not stick to the glass. Installation was very easy for my 5 wire (Y, G, W, C, R) setup. Following the step-by-step instructions from the Ecobee application I was able to turn off the power, label my wires, remove my old thermostat, and install the Ecobee in approximately 20 minutes. I recommend paying close attention to the inserting of the wires and giving them a slight tug to verify that they are seated properly. Once wired up I was able to turn the power back on and proceed through the initial setup on the Ecobee app of the Wi-Fi and connecting to my Ecobee account. After providing information about my home (optional) I was able to select my min/max temperatures for cool and hot. The larger screen really is a joy to use. The current temperature setting of the thermostat is easy to see and the buttons and menus are well spaced for somebody with larger fingers. I found that the default brightness was a little on the low side but increasing it to the max brightness made it much easier to see across the room. There is a lot of capability baked into this thermostat and whether or not you choose to use all of them is up to you. The good news is that you have plenty of options. When it comes to voice assistants you can setup either Alexa or Siri directly on the device itself. Setting up Siri control through the iOS Home application does require a HomePod Mini, which I didn’t have so I wound up setting up Alexa which is equally simple. Additionally, you can link the thermostat with HomeKit, Google Assistant, and Alexa for control from other smart speakers. Once linking you can easily control or query the current temperature from anywhere in your home. Optionally you can also play music through Spotify to the thermostat. I found that overall, the speaker quality is great for podcasts if I was working or doing something in the hallway, but it by no means (and doesn’t try to be) a dedicated speaker. Features new to the Premium model is the addition of a air quality sensor. Since your thermostat and A/C unit(s) relate directly to air flow and air quality in your home this seems like a great addition. Right now, Ecobee will notify you if the air quality becomes poor if you are cooking and will recommend opening a window. In the future I could see them perhaps providing air filter replacement suggestions based on sensor measurements over time. Ecobee also provides historical data on usage so you can understand how you use your thermostat in addition to comparisons with other similar houses in your area. This feature takes about a month to calibrate, so I haven’t been able to explore this data quite yet. Time will tell what kind of savings I'm able to achieve, but overall it seems to do a good job detecting my presence and only running when I'm home and need it.

Once you’ve tried a smart thermostat, you’ll never want to go back. What initially seems like an unnecessary extravagance becomes an invaluable utility on chilly or warm nights while I’m in bed and the thermostat needs a minor bump. It’s wonderful to make the adjustment on my phone or tablet from the comfort of my bed rather than hopping out of bed and trudging to the thermostat. The Ecobee is one of the best smart thermostats out there. It is easy to install as long as the proper wiring exists. If the home was built in the 1990’s or later, there’s a very good chance it has the required C wire. Second, the app is robust and easy to use once figured out. There is a slight learning curve figuring out the comfort settings, eco+ and a few other less than intuitive features. It also helps to learn how the remote sensors and primary thermostat work together to maintain even climate throughout the house. But once everything is figured out, maintaining comfy climate throughout the house is a breeze. The app also reminds when it’s time to inspect the system or change the filter and it integrates with other smart features, devices and services like Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. I can even adjust the thermostat from my smartwatch. The ecobee does a fantastic job of moderating temperatures and cycling the system. It allows for adequate cooldown before restarting the system. We no longer encounter situations where the heat or AC cycles on and off several times over a short period. The ecobee premium adds a few useful new features like smart security and indoor air quality monitoring. The smart security service is available for an additional fee and allows adding cameras and sensors for intrusion monitoring as well as climate. The air quality monitoring is a wonderful addition and allows me to consolidate IAQ monitoring through my thermostat rather than continue using separate devices to measure air quality. It would be great if the smart sensors also measured air quality but they don’t. The display on the primary thermostat is subtle yet striking. It adds contemporary flair to modern styled homes but doesn’t seem out of place among more classical styling and decorating. The brightness is just right to avoid standing out while remaining easily viewable even at a distance. I haven’t encountered many cons with the ecobee system. The only things I wish worked better are the following: The follow me feature sometimes works counterintuitively. If I’m sitting at my desk working and someone is in another room actively moving around, the sensor usually lists my room as empty and adjusts climate based on the “active” room. The temperatures balance out based on all sensors and thermostat as a whole but if any sensors are placed in abnormally hot or cold areas, it can affect performance. The comfort settings aren’t the easiest to figure out. They’re easy to use after realizing how they work but are a bit confusing initially. Aside from my minor complaints, I have no other issues with the ecobee and so far it is the best thermostat we’ve ever owned. Full disclosure, I’m comparing it to standard, non-smart programmable thermostats. I haven’t tried any other smart thermostat brands and to be honest, I’m happy with the Ecobee and have no reason to test the waters elsewhere.

I have been using a competitors smart thermostat for the last couple of years and have always felt like it was lacking something. Sure, I was able to control my gas furnace, A/C, and whole house humidifier, but there was something inherently missing from the entire experience: HomeKit. Since my aforementioned thermostat was made by Google, there was simply no integration within HomeKit and I was forced to use the clunky Nest app, which was constantly unable to connect to my device. Enter the Ecobee Premium. The latest and greatest model from Ecobee provides all of the functions you expect from a thermostat and then some. Of course, I can control all of the functions I expect to be able to control (temp, mode, fan, humidifier), but this latest model also provides air quality and CO2 monitoring as well. Changing functions is simple and can be done with just a few taps either on the touchscreen of the thermostat, within the ecobee app (on my phone), or via HomeKit, since the ecobee is able to integrate with Apple's ecosystem out of the box. Installation was easy and straightforward by following the instructions/guide within the mobile app. I've hooked up many thermostats in my days, so this was almost unnecessary for me, but it is still very intuitive for the unexperienced user. Within minutes, I had the old thermostat off the wall and the ecobee wired up and working. Once powered up, the thermostat asks a series of questions to configure your system and desired temperature(s). The system does provide both a positive and negative trigger for powering a humidifier, dehumidifier, or other auxiliary system. I have a whole-house humidifier on my furnace that requires a single positive trigger (it is grounded directly at the furnace control board's common circuit). The system recognized my connected device and allowed me to configure it accordingly. However, I have not yet been able to test whether or not it works because the relative humidity has simply been too high since I installed it a couple of weeks ago to allow the system to trigger the call for more humidity. This model also includes ecobee's remote sensor that I placed in my 2nd floor bedroom, which sees all of the afternoon sun. Although the system does struggle to maintain a balanced temperature between the bedroom and the rest of the house during the hot, sunny days that we've been having lately, it is still more comfortable than it was with my previous thermostat, even when I was using the previous unit's remote sensor. I attribute this to the fact that the ecobee model actually uses a motion sensor to register when the room is being occupied which allows it to "follow me" through the house. Shortly after installing this, I went on vacation and was easily able to put the system into vacation mode which allowed me to set my departure and arrival dates/times and my desired temperatures while I was away and when we returned. I set the system to return to my normal temperatures a few hours before we would be home and we came home to a very comfortable house. Later that day, the humidity rose to record levels for my area and the smart thermostat actually compensated for the increased humidity by cooling for slightly longer making it feel more comfortable in my home. Sure, this did cause my A/C to run for slightly longer, but isn't the primary purpose of a thermostat to make the home comfortable? So why only 4 stars? While this thermostat does provide phenomenal control of my system and does seem to keep my home more comfortable that my previous unit, I am still a little disappointed with a few things. First, while there is Homekit control that gives me the ability to set the temperature set-points as well as control the mode of the system, I am unable to control the system fan using HomeKit. The ecobee app provides this functionality, but I prefer to integrate with my smart home devices via a single entry point and not have to manage multiple applications for home control. As a workaround, I created an integration in my already functioning HomeAssistant that at least adds this functionality for me. This, of course, is a much more advanced solution that the average user is likely not going to understand or be able to utilize. This would be moot had ecobee simply added this functionality directly. Second, within the HomeKit thermostat integration, I am presented with options for Alarms and Timers with options to "Add New Timer" and "Add New Alarm"; clicking on either of these buttons does nothing, nor have I been able to figure out the purpose of either. This clearly seems to be a bug in the integration. With any luck, these issues could (and will hopefully) be fixed a future software update. At the end of the day, I love this thermostat and appreciate all of the built-in functions that it has that are aimed at making my home comfortable while also trying to save me money. Hopefully ecobee will address any small inconveniences in future software revisions.

We’ve had other Ecobee devices in the home but no Ecobee thermostat, including a camera and sensors. Now that I have one, the ensemble of Ecobee devices feels complete, and the Smart Thermostat Premium was the best option. The thermostat looks so clean, the shape is sleek, and it fits in well with the rest of the house. The screen is big and responsive, and the resolution is pleasing, too. Installing was a worry, as I am not a technician of any kind. Fortunately, this was really easy to do, and the Ecobee app provided perfect instructions. The kit includes small sticker labels for all the wires you might have for the thermostat, but my wiring seemed the simplest, so I didn’t need them. Just make sure you have the power shut off to these wires! After install and setup, I got into the full features of the thermostat. Unlike our previous thermostat, this one works with remote sensors. We have Ecobee SmartSensors set up in both our room and the baby’s room upstairs to ensure that they are cooled to the temperature we set since they’re prone to the rising heat. It’ll also automatically pause any heating or cooling if we open a window where we have one of our sensors set up (this feature requires a subscription to Ecobee Smart Security). Being able to monitor the air for VOCs and CO2 is a plus. It’s supposed to give you tips when the levels of these pollutants are high, but the only tip I’ve ever seen or can imagine doing is opening windows. It can also detect smoke which can come in handy if we are away from home, as it will alert us if it detects it (this feature requires a subscription to Ecobee Smart Security). I benefit from a few eco+ features including the system knowing when no one is home and using your away comfort setting, and by it learning from our home and away schedule and making suggestions on how I can be more energy efficient. I have yet to receive any suggestions though. I also benefit from its humidity adjustments which we’ve noticed—this is something our previous thermostat did not do. This thermostat feels like a huge upgrade from my previous smart thermostat, and the previous one was only a year old. It has proven to be very effective at maintaining a high level of energy efficiency, and it's got features that are a huge benefit to comfortability and safety, which are two things at the top of our priority list when it comes to our family. We are extremely happy with it and glad to have it working as a part of our smart home.

It has a mind of its own. It will read different temperatures like 65 in the house when it’s really 71.

It was too difficult to install. I ended up getting a NEST therm and it works great and easy install.

The Ecobee premium thermostat is definitely a nice upgrade from my previous generation ecobee product. The look and feel of the thermostat is definitely noticeably different through the use of higher end materials and a larger screen. The thermostat includes a smart room sensor that allows you to help monitor the temperature more accurately therefore eliminating cold spots and hot spots in your house. The thermostat includes the option of using Alexa or Siri as through the speaker directly however in order to use Siri you must have an Apple home hub enabled. The install was quite easy and setup is accomplished via the thermostat itself. The ecobee is compatible with Siri, Alexa, Google assistant, Apple Homekit, Smart Things and IFTT. The ecobee premium also features built in air quality monitoring which gives you alerts on how to improve your air quality if poor air quality is detected. The thermostat can also function as your smart security hub if you are using the various door and window sensors made by ecobee. It also features smoke alarm detection which can contact emergency services if required. The ecobee app is easy to use however it can be slow to open. I typically use apple home controls via homekit to control my thermostat. Overall I believe the Ecobee premium thermostat is a well made thermostat that will help you save money on your energy costs and look good while doing it

Honestly, this is a seriously ticked off setup review. I have not used the thermostat long enough to give an opinion yet. The set up was a complete nightmare. Nothing in the directions on the phone matched the screen. The HomeKit code did not come up and the registration code did not come up where the directions said they would. Almost nothing in the real hookup matched directions. What should have been a five minute cruise was a 30 minute nightmare. I would not wish my experience on my worst enemy. I suggest anyone who gets this thermostat follow the directions on the thermostat and ignore the garbage on the instructions. That was the only way we could get it to work and on our second one it was a breeze.

Ecobee’s Smart thermostat is an elegantly modern device that makes your home smart where it can actually pay for itself in the long haul. Equipped with compatibility, you don’t have to pick and choose between voice assistants or smart home management apps. Like many smart thermostats, you can schedule temperature settings, use voice assistant to adjust the temperature, as well as some unique features such as air quality monitoring. Compatibility and installation will vary depending on your heating/cooling system. I had a few jumper wires that I had to get rid of from my old system as well as some uncommon wiring. I used the compatibility checker from Ecobee’s website as well as their installation app to do the install. They include almost all you need to install. A drill and drill bits were all I needed to grab from the garage. I felt confident using the app to do the install as instructions were clear and thorough. Setup was easy too. A few questions regarding my HVAC system, thermostat location, and naming the Ecobee was all straight forward. I liked having the touch screen to do the setup, especially for WiFi for when Apple Homekit was having issues auto-magically connecting to wifi, I simply just did it manually using the onscreen keyboard. One tip for Ecobee on future updates, make the shift key a shift and not a caps lock. One of the luxuries of having a smart thermostat is having an app and integration so you don’t have to physically interact with the wall unit. No different here. It took me a few minutes to pick up on the navigation but the app does all the things I would think you’d want it to do. From the main screen you can do the basics: Adjust mode, temperature, run the fan, or change to a “Comfort” setting (more on that later). You also get a quick look at in home humidity and air quality as well as a weather button for local forecast and the typical weather metrics. As for features, I’ll list them out. Eco+ settings help you save money by setting “Comfort” modes. By default Home, Away, and Sleep are setup and you can adjust what temperature range those are set to and to what schedule. Away uses device sensors to detect whether your home or not and will adjust the temperature accordingly. You can add comfort settings for different scenarios. For example, I added a “BlanketTime” for winter to keep heat settings to 65 degrees when we might be relaxing under a blanket, and I applied it between the hours of 6pm and 10pm. You can setup voice assistant to work from the thermostat as well as controlling it with your smart phone. Connecting your account is straight forward, initiate on the thermostat and finish on your device. One of the things that pulled me in to this device compared to my old one is the smart sensor and it’s ability to help balance the home temperature. My bedroom is usually a few degrees off from the rest of the house due to two large windows. I set the smart sensor in the room and when it’s occupied, the thermostat tries to keep the room the correct temperature. This is pretty handy and I look forward to getting more time with it especially as it warms up in my area. Finally, the materials and design feel premium. The metallic housing looks and feels modern while the screen is clear and easy to read. The screen is responsive and navigating to and through menus is snappy. Not much not to like. If you’re looking for a new thermostat that has all the features and more of most other modern smart thermostats, you’re not going to go wrong with the Ecobee. I’ve been really happy with it so far, from ease of installation to wide compatibility with other smart home devices. It’s hard not to recommend.

The ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium is my first programmable (and smart!) thermostat and I'm pretty excited about it. It has a wealth of features, a lot of which I'll probably never use. So, it's probably a good idea to research before succumbing to the hefty price. If you won't be utilizing any of the smart features a standard programmable unit could save a bit of money. Ultimately, I just needed to be able to set different times for different temperatures, so that when nobody's home we aren't wasting energy. But I really liked the idea of being able to control things from my phone too, whether I'm home or not. If you like a home of the future you can also control the thermostat via your favorite voice assistant, like Alexa, Siri or Google. This also allows you to use your thermostat as a smart speaker, in case you need to listen to your jams while hanging out in the hallway. I was a little afraid of installation, but ecobee's setup instructions made it very easy. It is my understanding that depending on how old your home is the existing wiring may not be sufficient. I believe there is some information on their website that will help you determine if your wires are up to snuff before you drop the big bucks. The thermostat comes with a SmartSensor in the box. I didn't find the documentation on the sensor particularly clear on how it works, but it somehow helps even out areas in your house that run warmer or colder than the area the main unit is located. So, if your thermostat is set at 72, but your upstairs bedroom is always 5 degrees warmer, putting the sensor in there is supposed to help regulate that difference. Extra sensors are available for purchase, though they're kind of pricey. Additionally, you can also buy other sensors that will help tell the thermostat to shut off if a window or door has been left open. These can also be combined with a subscription service to act as a security system. In the short time I've had this thermostat I haven't really found anything negative to say about it. My only criticism is how expensive the thing is. That being said, there are less expensive models available. Also, instructions are lacking in the package, requiring a visit to the company's website. Here, details feel convoluted and overwhelming.

I received this thermostat a few days ago. It is nicely packaged and includes everything that you need to install it. It was fairly easy to install, following the installation instructions on the Ecobee app. I did make the the mistake of not fully powering off my unit and blew a 3 amp fuse on the heat pump control board. After replacing the fuse, the Ecobee Smart Premium thermostat powered up without issue. I upgraded from an Ecobee 3 that served me without issue for several years. I did have to replace the mounting/wiring plate with the one included with the Ecobee Smart Premium. This new model is much better looking than my previous model. The new display is much larger, more vibrant, and clearer. I like the new air quality monitor feature. It is much easier to change the temperature with the new user interface. This thermostat also works with Alexa or Siri. The speaker quality is fine for a thermostat, and the microphone did not have a problem picking up my voice. I did have to re-pair all of my sensors. Helpful hint for those who have to re-pair sensors…I had to flip over the battery in the sensor prior to pairing them. Also, there is no option to migrate your comfort settings and schedule from the old thermostat to the new thermostat. You will have to set it all back up from scratch. It would have been nice to be able to copy these to the new thermostat. Other than that, I have no complaints and I am very pleased with the Ecobee Smart Premium thermostat. It is probably the best smart thermostat on the market.

If you need/want a smart thermostat, look no further. The Ecobee Premium Thermostat is the best smart thermostat on the market. Setup is relatively easy. Download the Ecobee app (there is no installation guide) and it walks you through the process. Be sure to cut power to your thermostat before you start the install! Everything you need comes in the box (wire labels, screws, etc.). Make sure you take your time and check and double check your wire connections before turning the power back on. This latest version of the Ecobee thermostat is absolutely beautiful with its stainless steel and all glass front. Once you have the Ecobee installed, the fun really starts. Using the remote sensor, you can create comfort settings (Home, Sleep, etc.) to keep your house at the perfect temperature. I put the remote sensor in my bedroom so at night I can have the thermostat run to keep my bedroom at the perfect sleeping temp (ignoring the temperature at the base unit). The remote sensors are what truly set Ecobee apart from other smart thermostats. Ecobee keeps you posted on your AC runtimes and lets you know how much you save. You can also easily set vacations in the app and use the remote sensor and base station to know when your house is empty (automatically adjusting the temperature). Overall, Ecobee is the one to beat in the smart thermostat market.

With any smart home device I like to have options and not be locked in to one specific ecosystem. The Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium offers the most compatibility. In addition, the thermostat has a premium feel, the touchscreen is massive and vivid, it doubles as a smart speaker, and accepts voice commands. Last but not least, this thermostat has an air quality sensor and provides recommendations on how to improve the air quality in your home. All in all the thermostat works exactly as it supposed to, provides premium features and will integrate with the major smart home players. While I have enjoyed using the nest thermostat I like all of the smart home functions and the aesthetics of the Ecobee. In addition I like the customization the Ecobee allows vs the Nest thermostat. I was able to schedule a simple program in the Ecobee while the Nest was always trying to learn my pattern. The issue is Nest will never be able to learn a pattern for people that don’t have a set schedule and are in and out of the house.

The Ecobee Smart Thermostat premium brings a few updates to the rounded square look that has become emblematic of Ecobee's thermostats. The immediately obvious is the brushed aluminum/stainless steel looking ring around the thermostat. Combined with the black face, it conveys premium a la premium kitchen appliances of the past decade. It is actually metallic and looks great, but perhaps a bit too modern given it's not really surrounded by other similarly modern appliances and fixtures. My thermostat is located in the main sitting room just inside the front door and the decor is more comfort and unobtrusive than modern. In some ways, the occupancy sensor does a better job of conveying premium, muted, modern look that looks good while still blending in. Another update is the screen. If you had problems reading an Ecobee from across the room, worry no more. Screen is hefty and pretty dang bright when lit. Beyond that are the features packed in - occupancy sensor so you can adjust based on whether people are present. With just one sensor, it's a bit tricky to make this work really well. Ideal is to have occupancy coverage for all the rooms you really care about so the thermostat can be lazier when those rooms are unoccupied. Inevitably, most people will care about more than one room. Though there's a certain logic in keeping with the premium kitchen-esquire anesthetic if you imagine this being used in a studio apartment. You also get air quality monitoring built in, though it seems this is really just C02, a measurement that's starting to makes its way into everything, and VOCs which is a decent addition. That said, you dont get a value reading just a vague clean to dirty air condition readout. Aside from that, the other cool feature is this doubles as an Alexa speaker. If you're like me and have echo devices sprinkled throughout your home, this can help bridge an area that probably may not have as good speaker coverage. If you're not like me, this may be a useless feature. The thermostat worked well, was easy to use and straightforward to setup. In fact, what weirdly impressed me the most wasn't that the thermostat did what it promised but a couple things separate from its primary use as a thermostat. The first was instalation footprint. This works with the normal 24V furnace/AC wiring but what's really nice is that despite the large screen and thus large housing, fhe mounting footprint is very compact. I've had smart thermostats in other houses that pretty much ensured you couldn't revert or switch to something smaller without needing to do a decent amount of patching of the oversized holes. Now, if I should desire in the future, I can swap to a thermostat with smaller footprint or casing and still feel confident that the mounting holes would remain hidden, even if I couldn't directly reuse them. The second impressive item was having an additional Alexa device. One more speaker to expand multi-room sound, supports the Alexa behavior where only the nearest speaker utilizing a particular wake word responds to your query/command, and while not as nice as a full fleged echo, sound quality on par or better than my v2 dots. My major complaint is not having more occupancy sensors out of the box- though at the same time that's understandable, that would increase cost. Probably the more ideal solution was if all my alexa devices could double as occupancy sensors and feed that info back to the Ecobee versus it just having Alexa builtin but not necessarily utilizing Alexa for its thermostat behavior (beyond being able to command it to a particular temp).

The product itself does exactly what I am expecting it to do, so for that, 5 stars. I switched from another brand of smart thermostat and definitely like the features of this one more. That said, the app for this is not necessarily as intuitive and sometimes I've found it difficult to determine my settings.

This was my first time using a smart thermostat, so I don’t have much to compare it to except for solely based on its own merit. The setup process fresh out of the box was very simple, and easy. Please make sure you turn off the power to the a/c unit before instillation. My initial thoughts were it’s very sleek and modern looking, and really adds a classy touch to the room. It comes with a wall plate which was much needed due to the hole left from my old unit. It gives you step by step directions, and or course there is an app that you download in order to get full functionality. I had no problems connecting the unit to my home Wi-Fi whatsoever. What I found interesting was that the temperature read differently than what my older unit had, which makes sense because I always felt it was off. The font for the temp is very large, and nice but very small and hard to read for everything else. I do enjoy being able to use my google assistant as an added bonus. There are other features like being able to use the thermostat as a speaker, but I’m sorry I do not see what the use of this would be with phones, and smart home devices, along with stifled sound quality. Being able to know the air quality, and having sensors in another room is really nice. The ecobee then adjust to make a more uninformed temperature even for rooms further away. Overall I really enjoy this unit, and it makes my life much easier with not having to go downstairs when the temp is not ideal. I know the air quality in my home, and it’s not an eyesore.

The Ecobee thermostat is one of the worst purchases I’ve made in recent memory (my absolute worst was a terrible sofa but that’s another story). I started out with an Original Nest thermostat that I installed years ago. It was one that was pre-ordered before NEST even had released it. It worked flawlessly and did everything I wanted it to do but eventually it failed along with my furnace. I would have put a Nest back except my HVAC guy says he removes them because of issues he has and wouldn’t warranty my brand new furnace with one. I didn’t want an argument so searched for something different. It has something to do with the Nest leaching power and back feeding to a circuit board and I wasn’t in a position to argue. I need my warranty. That said, the Ecobee is orders worse and less flexible than the Nest is and it is a current generation with the latest firmware and simply can’t get the heat right in my house. It is either too hot or too cold and runny longer than necessary. I’ll rip it out eventually I’m sure but for now I’m dealing with it. I have the remote sensors that can go in other rooms but the Ecobee is so inflexible on how you use them that I’m not sure they’re worth the effort. The main problem point is that they rely in THREE (and only THREE) main temperature set points: HOME, AWAY and SLEEP. If you set a schedule you MUST use those three set points and those three only. In other words, you can set the heat in morning to 69 and then gradually lower it or arbitrarily change it to say 68 or 67. You can only set it to HOME, SLEEP or AWAY. It is ridiculous. With the nest I could set any temperature at any time day or night. To think that this is the state of the art today is outrageous. Granted, I have not liked it to Apple HomeKit and set arbitrary automations but this shouldn’t be necessary. The three settings rear their ugly head again when dealing with the sensors. You can change when they are active and used for sensing temperature and presences BUT it MUST be one of those three modes. You cannot, for instance, say use the Bedroom sensor only in the morning but turn it off at say 7:30 AM because to do so would mean you can only turn SLEEP mode off at 7:30AM but people get up before then and the temp needs to start rising in HOME mode at 5:30 AM. There is just no way to easily use this thing in a home that has a lot of varying schedules and a desire for granular control. Another point and perhaps the most important, the temperature on the unit seems inaccurate at times. Before using the other sensors (which I believe use an average for control) the single Ecobee unit seemed to be off by 2 degrees at various times for in inexplicable reason. I’ve verified it by comparing to other temperature sensors which agreed with each other but the Ecobee was the outlier. With all the various issues, it seems impossible to get an adjustable setting whereas the $15 thermostat I had on the wall prior to that (after my new furnace was installed and the nest was removed) I never though twice about the temp other than manually needing to drop it at night or when away. I have half a mind to go back to it except I spent so much time getting it installed. Another finer point during installation…don’t make the mistake of thinking the colors of the labels for wires and what you use is interchangeable. Their directions are specific about the colors and despite having mostly duplicates between the colors they are NOT all the same. If you get the colors wrong (green and white in this case) it’ll be more difficult to follow the instructions at the end as they have you relabeling wires such as the C wire and Rh to Rc etc. It is a bit of a mess whereas I believe the Nest just handled it in software. Bottom line is this thing is a disaster. I really wish I’d known before that Wyze made one and more importantly one with a knob for temperature control as I’d have tried that one first. I wanted the Nest because you can easily adjust the temperature with a turn vs the press screen, scroll, press again. The touchscreen is nowhere near as efficient or simple to use. Get a Nest if you can and if not look somewhere else still. Skip the Ecobee. It is too much money and a disaster until they address some of the issues. In particular, the restrictions to home and away and sleep modes is unacceptable.

the ecobee products are made well but be aware of a few things that re really annoying: (1) almost every time you log into app they require dual authentication; (2) the thermostats are not quite accurate in house and are show different readings in same places; (3) the bottom of ecobee thermostat whos the supposed temperature outside the house ... how does it do that ? it takes a data feed from a ground station that may be 5-10 miles away where its 5-10 degrees hotter. its a horrible feature and may not bear any relationship to actual temp. why does this matter ? everyone entering the house will comment that the thermostat needs to be set lower since its so "hot" it is a total pain and you cant turn it off without disconnecting the ecobee units from app.

Great buy! Does exactly as it should. Purchased and replaced Honeywell!
