    Great Smart Thermostat

I did a decent amount of research online before settling on this thermostat. There are smart thermostats out there that offer more features, but for what I needed this one was competitively priced and had good user reviews across the web. The self installation was very easy. I updated two thermostats in our house (both replaced with this model), first one took about 10 minutes the second one took about 5. The app and thermostat itself work great and are easy to set up and use. My only regret is waiting this long to upgrade to a smart thermostat.

With electric rates going up on a yearly basis, you need to save money where you can and one of the best places to start is your air conditioning/heating. The Ecobee Essential thermostat is the easiest and cheapest way to save on your electric bill. Installation: The installation was a breeze, the app walk’s you through every step of the way. If you already have a common wire the process is basically a plug and play solution. Ecobee even has a compatibility checker online if your unsure about your heat/cooling system will work with Ecobee. If you don’t have a common wire, you can get a extender kit. Now I didn’t need the extender kit but I did check how good the instructions were incase I needed it, and Ecobee made it easy to understand if you need to add the extender. App: The Ecobee app is one of the best in the market, you can easily turn your AC/Heat on and off at the touch of a button. The app isn’t cluttered at all and you can easily navigate to see data such as weather and reports based on your usage. Another thing I noticed coming from a non-smart thermostat was the Ecobee Essentials turns my AC on and off instantly (1 to 2 seconds) , previously I would have to wait 20 to 30 seconds to hear my AC turn on/off. The app allows you to set a wide variety of temperatures from a daily schedule and what temperature should be in the home when you’re away. When it comes to reminders the Ecobee app is amazing as you can get warnings/messages for Low Temp, High Temp, filter change, UV light cleaning, high/low humidity along with HVAC Maintenance. All these reminders/notifications are a must if you want to keep you HVAC system running at its best. Benefits over traditional Thermostat: While being the Essential thermostat it still provides smart features besides being able to control it while away. The thermostat learns how well your AC works and figures out how long it takes to cool your home to a specific level, it uses this data to turn your HVAC on so it can reach the desired temperature by the desired time. Another thing I noticed is that the thermostat keeps the fan on after your HVAC shuts off to maximize your heating and cooling, this helps distribute the temperature evenly across your house. Ecobee also uses the AC to lower humidity in the house even if you don’t have a dehumidifier, this is great as it makes the air feel cooler during hot summers and hotter during dry winters. Ecobee Ecobee also states this thermostat can control 2 stage HVAC units which is a plus, my unit is single stage so I couldn’t test it. Overall the Ecobee Essentials is a great thermostat that has no real faults. The touch screen is nice and responsive and as with the app you don’t need to do 30 presses to make the changes you want. I found the screen was a bit reflective when looking at it from an angle at a distance, but bright enough to look at even in a bright room from 3-5 feet. You can add individual sensors to rooms which make sure the room you’re in the most reaches your desired temperature, this is crucial as different parts of you house heat/cool differently depending on location and size. Ecobee also integrates with most smart homes (Apple homekit, Google and Alexa) so you don’t need to switch between apps.

The ecobee ecosystem is a great system, overall. This model is a lower end system, but has all the basic features you would expect in a smart thermostat (scheduling, ability to access via an app, work with Amazon Echo devices, etc). Using the app makes wiring very easy, as it walks you step-by-step through the wiring process. It does not come with the adapter needed if you do not have a C wire. Other models come with that adapter. But those can be bought online very inexpensively.

Previously had an Ecobee product and worked very well over 10+ years, however, noticed AC was not receiving any voltage to turn on. This immediately resolved that issue and responds very quickly to AC or Heating. Recommend this for those who don't need all the bell and whistles and does what it's designed to do of turning on the AC or heating. In addition, this works well with the app without any hiccups. Highly recommend this for the basics of ensuring your HVAC works as it should.

    Replaced an older Ecobee

I purchased this unit to replace an older unit (Ecobee 3 Lite) that was damaged. (Long story) Ecobee is easy to use. Installation was straight forward. But this newer model did not come with a wall plate to cover holes from previous thermostats. Also I am still trying to have the older sensors be recognized by the new unit.

If you’re looking for a smart thermostat at a great price, and use the Apple home ecosystem - this is the device for you. Setup is easy and straightforward, with an app that helps guide you through the process. I can now control my thermostat with my iPhone by voice, using the home app or the Ecobee app. This makes it easy to setup schedules and automations based on certain days or activities like leaving the home or going on vacation. You even have the option to select different levels of savings which optimizes usage to give you more or less savings based on your specific preferences.

Solid Choice for a Thermostat Upgrade

Generally I really like our new thermostat. It’s a big and convenient upgrade to the one that was first installed in our home - being able to control the entire HVAC system remotely and to integrate it with our other “smart” devices in our home has been fantastic! (We went with this brand over others as it was recommended by the HVAC technician who came out to provide us with our preventative cleaning and routine service of our system.) INSTALLATION The removal of the old thermostat and installation of our new one was fairly straightforward. It was a little clunky via the software, as it seemed to “reset” each time my phone went to sleep rather than picking up where it left off. So several of the instruction steps needed to be viewed over and over. But it worked the first time around, so that was nice. Quick Notes - We found that it would have been better aesthetically if we had the extra mounting plate, to help cover holes in the wall from the original thermostat. However, Best Buy didn’t carry that, and it was hard to find at local hardware stores as well. You might keep this in mind and secure one prior to doing the install “just in case”. Also, I found that getting the unit to install firmly on the mounting plate included with the box was a little “fussy” - I finally got that to work OK, but not without a raised eyebrow wondering if it might come loose overnight. (The issue is that the unit needs to be installed on the included mounting plate for electrical connection.) PROGRAMMING Once the install was complete, getting the unit connected to home WiFi and linked to my smart home ecosystem was pretty seamless. Again, it just worked the first time around. After getting it connected, we needed to set up the temperature ranges we wanted to use. Useful Note: If you keep the full HVAC system engaged after installation, when you are setting your comfort range, the tightest gap between low and high allowable temperatures is 5°. So, for instance, if you set your sleep temperature to 68° as the trigger temperature to start heating, the lowest you can set the upper trigger temperature before it starts cooling is 73°. Thankfully, we could keep it in only heating mode, for instance, to avoid running the A/C during the cold months. Overall, we have continued to be happy with our setup - and especially considering what we had installed beforehand, this was a solid upgrade for a reasonable price.

Does the job, and my A/C is working great. The only issue I had was with the lack of ease with Scheduling thermostat changes during the week, but I called their customer service department and they walked me through it. I don’t think I could’ve figured out how to do it without them.

The product is awesome, BUT it is very difficult as a consumer to find out if it works for your HVAC system. It did not work for mine, and I ended up having to call a tech out and get a new thermostat in the end. The features really are great though, and I just have a super old system (mid 80s air handler).

Easy to install directions, especially for someone with a newer home and electrical wiring / wifi. Even with an older home, we were able to purchase the adapter for connect without a problem. Love the online "smart" capabilities and options--much more that a usual standard wall thermostat can provide. Hopeful that we see some improvement in our heating/ natural gas bills in the future. Also love the ability to adjust temps while away from home--prep home and make adjustments for our return, etc.

The Ecobee Smart Thermostat arrived quickly, which mattered a lot since I was in the middle of moving. The instructions were simple and clear, making installation easy even though it was my first time replacing a thermostat. I also really like how seamlessly it integrates with Apple HomeKit—it works smoothly without any hassle. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this thermostat to family and friends.
