This is a great multipurpose sensor; it can log motion so the system knows if there is an occupant in the room, but it also can log temperature (as long as you have an ecobee thermostat that is). The sensors are super simple to add as well, just open the ecobee app click add device take a picture of the QR code and your good to go. One of the easiest devices I have ever set up. I would say if you only have a camera and door sensors this extra sensor pack is probably not super useful unless you need to monitor for motion specifically in an area, but if you have an ecobee thermostat then the usefulness goes up as it will also sense the temperature of remote rooms which is great. Overall great easy product to set up.

    Room Temp Sensors That Work

I really like these, simple as that! The setup was super simple and I am able to have it adjust for a room that is either occupied or not with some simple in app and thermostat adjustments. They work great with the Ecobee 4. There is not much to say other than if you want your house to adjust your temp fast in a room that does not have the thermostat in it, these are the best way period!

The smart sensors were a breeze to set up. They work well with both the camera and thermostat. I had 1 room that was always warmer than the rest of the house. After installing the Sensors the system stayed on a little longer to reduce the temperature in that room. This is a good addon to the thermostat. I would recommend this to family and friends.

Good Occupancy and Temperature Sensor Hackable

The Ecobee SmartSensor is a combination room occupancy sensor and temperature sensor. This lets you get temperature readings for muliple rooms or places in your home and allows your thermostat to better ensure that each room gets at least to the set temperature. The occupancy sensor part lets you make decisions based on whether there's actually someone in a room who would be affected by the temperature there. This is nice because if there's a room that gets much hotter than the rest of the house in the summer time, but is not used very often, you don't need to run the AC all the time to get the average down or get that room cool - just when there's actually someone there. If you don't want the occupancy behavior, you can just turn the sensor to face away from the room. It still measure temperature, but will always think the room is empty. The sensors work well and do a good job of tracking temperature. They matched up with the existing temperature-only sensors that I was using. These are battery powered, so don't need to be based by an outlet. The sensors can be wall mounted or placed on a flat surface. I would recommend placing on a flat surface like a table or bookshelf. The reason being size. It seems like Ecobee's new line is not very unobtrusive. As you don't interact with these, they should really fade into the background. These are not wifi sensors, so it is not straightforward to use them standalone. They connect to an Ecobee thermostat as the "base station" and you interact that way. Once nice things about these is that they have IFTTT capability - albeit throught the thermostat. There's a third party app that can expose the sensors directly, which is nice when you want to script home automation actions based on the occupancy sensor beyond controlling temperature. Right now I can get lights to turn on and off automatically when someone enters and exits a room. My next step is setting brightness of the lights going on/off based on time of day, so I avoid potentially waking those who are sleeping.

Sensors are cool, help monitor house temperature

I received a 2 pack of sensors to help monitor the temperature of my house. I have been pretty impressed so far. The sensors are very easy to setup. You hit the "plus" sign in the app and select "room sensors". Then you scan the QR code on the sensor and it pairs to your system. Then it gives you step by step instructions on how to setup, which is pretty much placing it in a room. It then shows you the temp in that room and also detects presence in the room. So the system will not run if a room is too warm/cool but nobody is in it. Also, I went out of town and the system did not run as much as it detected nobody was home. The app shows you the room temps on the home page of the app. It works flawlessly. The app has run without glitches or bugs. Ecobee has a very refined app that works great. I am just now appreciating it that I have a few more of the Ecobee products (camera, door sensors, ect). Overall, I really enjoy the Ecobee lineup and their app makes you want to keep using their ecosystem of smart home products.

These sensors add so much functionality to the Ecobee ecosystem. I mistakenly thought that they were only useful for the thermostat system, but they also add monitoring for the security camera system. It will detect movement in any room that they are set up in. The real power comes with the temperature monitoring if used with the Ecboee thermostat. I wasn't able to use this feature as of yet, as I have an older furnace with an odd board. Ecobee provides a wiring harness to convert an older system to work with their thermostats and have been very accommodating while working with me. The overall system works flawlessly and I know that the sensors work well with detecting movement. I am looking forward to the thermostat functionality once I get it working.

Good sensors for the right AC unit

I was excited to try out the new smart sensors for Ecobee. I already own the normal room sensors so I wanted to see the true difference between the two. With that said the new smart sensors do have some more robust features then the older model but not anything I consider to be substantially better. They can tell if a room is occupied and communicate that to the ecobee to let it know which room you occupy the most. The sensors now have the ability to be mounted to the wall. Setup was relatively simple and easy and intuitive and I have had the sensors placed for about a week now and haven’t noticed any substantial difference in my upstairs room temperature. Which brings me to the main fault I have with these sensors. The current sensor does a good job of communicating with the thermometer but because my system is not a dual zone the ac upstairs has no real ability to change the temperature to that room. So I feel like these room sensors are really tailor made for a dual ac system that can independently control the upstairs and downstairs temperature. I feel the sensors are a good investment if you have a really dual ac unit. Otherwise I wouldn’t bother with buying them.

Nice add on for smart thermostat

The Ecobee Smart sensors were an addition to my Ecobee smart thermostat (they do not work with other brands) to help make it smarter. Tap the plus sign in the app, scan the QR code, decide which thermostat (or camera) to pair it with, and you're done. Basically, these little guys detect the ambient temperature of the room they are placed in and also detect motion from about 15 feet or so. They then relay that information to the thermostat to give it more information on whether the system should be on or off. They have a built-in battery so you can put them wherever you like and they blend in quite well. If you have one of Ecobee's cameras (and pay for it to be functional through their subscription service), they can relay motion information and send alerts.

These Sensors Complete my Home Monitoring System

Adding these rooms sensors were just as easy as adding the door sensors and Smart Camera; just scan the QR code and within seconds, they are added to my system in the Ecobee app. As instructed, I placed them on a shelf thats about 4 feet high in my office and then another one in my bedroom. They come with little stands built in or you can use the included adapter to stick them on a wall. I may actually do that for the one in my bedroom. Now I have the peace of mind of knowing that if I am away, i'll know if someone is in my house and I have it all on video! My home monitoring system is now complete, I might even get the Ecobee thermostat to replace my Nest.

The smart sensors are practically essential if you have a larger/ multi level home. Our home is a townhouse and the thermostat is two and a half levels down from the spare bedrooms, having these placed, the system will try to average out the temperature. It also works as an occupancy sensor, so it will let the thermostat know if anyone is home or not. The homekit integration is great too, with being able to set up integrations between smart devices, like lights. These newer models also allow different mounting/placement options which was nice. And now with the Ecobee Haven system, they double as motion sensors, adding extra security to the home.

The Ecobee Smart sensors work in conjunction with a Ecobee smart thermostat. It is a free standing sensor that sits in any room to help you maintain a consistent temperature throughout your home. So think about it this way. The typical thermostat senses the temperature where the thermostat is located. This is usually in a hallway or somewhere there is not that much foot traffic. So, if the thermostat is in the dark, cool hallway, away from the sun drenched wide open living room the temperature variance is significant. The thermostat will not adjust to meet the variance in the living room, as the reading in the hallway is consistent to the settings you requested. Enter the Ecobee smart sensors. The sensor sits in those rooms where you think you get the temperature variance and it reports back to the thermostat to help get the consistency you want throughout the house. This of course give you a most efficient heating and cooling system. They have a reach of about 50 feet, which means they can be 50 feet away from the thermostat and work. So far so good. I think that distance is less when you factor in walls, but for me nothing is that far away from the thermostat. They have their own battery, and in comparison to some of the other sensors with a 3 year life, these last for 5 years. No plug, no problem. Like other Ecobee products, I was sold on this product line. They are reasonably priced, very well made and they work really well. I also have the smart camera with door and window sensors. They work awesome and the camera itself is extremely impressive. Check those out too, all items are voice controlled just like the thermostat. Bottom line, if you have the thermostat or need a new thermostat, consider the Ecobee line. If you do go with Ecobee, make sure to add these sensors. It just makes good sense, and it will give you a more consistent temperature from room to room.

Right out of the box, what These sensors not only function as temperature sensors, but also can sense motion. Thus, they are able to detect room occupancy and such. You can read online reviews that rave about how great the temperature sensor functionality is when it is paired with a compatible thermostat. No air conditioning or heat system is perfect. There are places in the house that are always warmer or colder than the rest. You set your thermostat to 75 degrees in the summer but that one room is always going to stay 84 degrees. However, with these sensors, you can place them in that room so that the smart thermostat knows there is one room not warmed or cooled properly. The sensors will help equilibrate the temperatures! However, another use that people do not realize is its ability to sense motion and detect room occupancy. It uses infrared sensors with a field of 120 degrees. This obviously is useful as well for temperature management. If nobody is in the living room, it doesn't need to be warmed or cooled right? However, it is also useful in home security. These sensors can also pair with an Ecobee SmartCamera. If you have the Haven subscription service, you can get notifications from the app that lets you know motion is detected. The caveat is you have to pay for the subscription service. It is 5$ for one camera and 10$ for unlimited. This is not a huge amount, but it is something to consider if you want the notifications. The SmartCamera itself is not a worthy buy if you do not have the subscription. All in all, the sensors work great. They are an absolute plus to have in a smart home. For home security purposes, they are a great supplement. The big caveat is you have to pay for a subscription. Given that Ecobee devices are not cheap, a subscription service on top of that could be a deal breaker to alot of people.

These little ecobee sensors work great! We have one in our baby's room where temp is tough to regulate (too cold on winter nights, toasty in the summer). Now our baby's room is always at a good temp!

These are easy to install just scan the QR code and your camera or thermostat will join them. I think they would work best with the thermostat as they can help adjust the temp in your home so that the room(s) that are occupied are comfortable. For some people this will be a nice addition. However, this does not add extra "zones" to your house so if the system thinks the bedroom needs to be warmer, that whole zone will have a temp increase. None the less if you are looking for this kind of product the form factor is really nice. The batteries are a button type which is my only concern. I am sure they will last a long time but it would be good to look up sources for replacement ahead of time so you are prepared as I doubt you can run out and get them at the local convenience store.

I like the fact that it tracks movements at all times of the day. I was concerned with privacy but got over that as soon as I found out there was a two factor authentication. Thanks to this, I found out why I’m always tired. Not what it’s intended for but it would let me know of a specific pattern of movement at certain times of the night. This sealed the five star rating and let me know it was always working and always connected. I highly recommend these sensors paired with your ecobee devices!
