Excellent Budget RoboVac
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our house presents a significant challenge to RoboVacs. We have hardwood, tile, and linoleum flooring with transition strips between them and throw rugs scattered around. Add to that two dogs who shed and just refuse to wipe their feet and the challenge is complete! We've had several robovacs over the years all across the price spectrum. They can be a significant time saver, but also can be a source of frustration. And they definitely are not perfect. Although they all offer some form of scheduled start, we found that manual start was preferable simply because there are things to be picked up or moved off the floor, like dog toys, bowls, etc. In spite of improvements over the years, they will inevitably find a place to get stuck, either under something or on the edge or fringe of a rug they sucked up. And finally, there are just spots they can't clean that will require manual (human) vacuuming. That having been said, we're really happy with the Ecovacs Deebot U2. It works with a phone app or Google voice (or Alexa) and can also be started or stopped with a physical button on the U2 itself. The phone app requires registration at Ecovacs, and keep track of your cleaning times and square footage cleaned. You can also schedule cleaning there, if that works for you. It has both optical (infrared) sensors and a bump bar to find it's way. Physically, the U2 is a typical round robovac, but seems lower than most, at least it got under more furniture than others we've tried without getting stuck. It seems solidly constructed, everything fits together with no rattling or play. When it's cleaning, it's quite quite in normal mode, there is a 'quiet' mode but we've never seen the need for it. The 'max power' mode is only a little noisier, but seems to significantly boost the vacuum. The U2 is not a mapping robovac; it uses one of three preprogrammed patterns to clean: serpentine, edge, or spot. Serpentine goes back and forth across the floor, avoiding obstacles well. Edge follows the edge of the room, doing a great job of getting the accumulated gunk. Spot spirals out and back in again, we have yet to use it. An optional magnetic strip can be used to provide an additional barrier for the U2. The mop works really well on our tile floors, and cleaned an amazing amount of gunk. We didn't try it in a room with the throw rugs down, instead mopped under them. But the U2 does sense rugs and it would surprise me if it avoided rugs when the mop plate was attached. And of course the vacuum worked well on both rugs and floors. The Android app worked well. It was a bit limited, but this may change in the future. All the cleaning options were available in the app. There is a history gives a picture of when and how much square footage was cleaned notification when the PowerBot gets stuck. Really, the only thing the U2 lacks over units costing 2x-3x as much is the location function, which lets you know where the robovac is and (sometimes) lets you do part of the house one day and part the next (or finish the house after the battery is recharged). The U2 is probably the best of the robovacs we've tried. It did the most complete job of vacuuming and the mopping function is a definite plus. At the price point, I say that Ecovacs has a absolute winner on their hands. Definitely recommended.

||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The vac out of no where last 2 nights at 1 am goes into vacuum and mop mode. Not programmed for a schedule. Also when I want to vacuum on the app it just spins and I have to log out and back in several times before the app connects to the device to start or stop cleaning.

Not worth it
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mopping sucks. When you use it as a vacuum it works fine but when you add water it goes crazy. It keeps mopping the same spot or the same part of the room. It starts to spin in one spot making a huge puddle which now it’s now sucking up. While it spins around it will stop and stay that it’s stuck, you go move it and it goes right back to the same spot and gets “stuck” again.

Servicable Robovac
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DISCLAIMER: This item was received free of charge in exchange for an honest review. The Deebot U2 from Ecovacs is a nice entry level robot vacuum cleaner. Just a few missing features keep it from being great. I feel like we are a relatively clean small family - consisting of myself (dad), my wife and our young toddler - but I am amazed at how much this little machine consistently picks up. We use the Deebot mostly on our main floor and as of now relegate its cleaning area to the dining room, living room, kitchen and our child's room. The area isn't very large, maybe 600 to 700 square feet, which is no problem for the little machine. Because we have such a small living space, I was worried about where I would be able to keep the charging base without it being a tripping hazard or an eyesore. Luckily, it fits perfectly under the buffet in our dining room. The only downside to the robot being under there is that I have to crouch down and reach under the furniture to remove the dustbin in order to empty it. The machine comes with everything, there are no additional accessories needed to start using the machine. It even provides an extra filter, an extra set of sweeper arms, as well as a washable mop pad and a few disposable mop pads. You can run the vacuum by simply pressing the button on top of the machine or for a little more functionality it can be controlled via a mobile phone app. One caveat to the app; you must have wifi to use it. There's no bluetooth connectivity. Controlling the vacuum via the app offers three options; edge, spot, and auto. Edge will send the vacuum around the perimeter of your living space, then back to the dock. Spot will start the robot in a tight circle, then spiral outward about 4 or 5 feet, then stop. Auto will send the robot out to explore; with the mop attachment it will run back and forth in a rigid pattern, without the attachment it will venture off on a random adventure until you send it home (or the battery drains low enough to automatically send it to the charger.) One criticism I have with this model is that other than programming when you want the machine to run, there isn't very much customization. I had just assumed the machine would learn my living space and then I could command it to clean specific areas, but this is not the case. It's also a little confusing that the app states, "Program a cleaning path for the entire house." under the Auto mode, but there is no way to actually do that. The machine just vacuums in a random pattern (or back and forth with the mop attachment) until you tell it to stop. This is a little frustrating because moving randomly almost guarantees that areas will be missed. To be fair, the instructions do state that the machine will vacuum in a back and forth manner by attaching the mopping plate, but forgoing the mop pad. The app itself is a little clumsy in parts. Like the misleading verbiage under the Auto function, the app suggests that you should be able to mute (or at the very least lower the volume) on the voice report. No matter where I set the volume switch, the robot loudly proclaims what I've asked it to do. So, when I feel it has vacuumed long enough and I tell it to return to the charger, it yells, "RETURNING TO CHARGING DOCK!" Then, when it plugs itself in, "CHARGING!" I joked to my wife that I thought it should exclaim, "EXCUSE ME!" in a robotic voice whenever it bumps into something. That would at least make me chuckle a bit if I can't silence it. It just seems like the app wants to do more, but maybe it just hasn't been finished yet. I haven't had to replace any parts yet, but I got curious as to how much replacement parts might be. Unfortunately, I could not find that information on the website. There are some accessories listed, but I couldn't find prices or even how to order. According to the manual there is a larger dustbin that can be purchased, but I couldn't find it on the website either. All in all the Deebot U2 is a surprisingly good little vacuum, just missing out on some finer details, a more versatile app and the ability to easily purchase replacement parts. What I like: - mopping feature - versatility - size/height - extra brushes and filter - quieter than expected - battery life - size of water tank - handles transitions very well - can be run without phone app - included brush/tangle remover is nice What I don't like: - cannot disable voice - cannot program specific areas to clean, though app suggests otherwise (Auto cleaning; program a cleaning path for the entire house) - didn't realize I would have to eventually purchase replacement brushes and filters - app is not very versatile - instructions aren't very clear - does not map - random vacuum pattern - need a wifi setup to control via app - the dust bin is a little clumsy/messy to empty

Is this thing on?
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a Roomba user for several years and always skeptical of these imitation brands. After using the Deebot, I regret not trying Ecovacs sooner. The Deebot isn't perfect, but neither is Roomba. Noise: I thought the Deebot was broken because it didn't make any noise while vacuuming. My Roomba is unusable when I'm on the phone and I expected that the Deebot would be equally noisy. Even on Max+ power, the Deebot is quiet enough to run while I'm on the phone. App: This model doesn't seem to have the mapping ability that I saw online, but it shows total runtime and sq footage covered. If you have a huge house, it might be annoying to track down your lost Deebot if it gets stuck somewhere. - You can schedule cleaning times, check accessory history, and check the remaining life of the battery, filters, and brushes in the app too. Cleaning Deebot does not have a HEPA filter like Roomba and that's probably why it's quieter. It also seems like the Deebot kicks up less dust (but more likely I just can't see the smaller particles that would normally be trapped by a HEPA filter). - Since Deebot has two front spinning brushes and a slightly shorter profile, it seems to clean quicker and more efficiently than Roomba. Unfortunately, Deebot seems to get stuck more frequently on cables/cords. Emptying the bin: The Deebot bin has a handy brush attached which you can use to loosen dust from the filter. Emptying the bin is sort of messy unless you use both hands to carefully empty it. The hinge swings open/closed, dumping dust all over, if you attempt to empty it one-handed. Overall, the quiet operation and dual brushes outweigh the negative issues mentioned. I would definitely be interested in upgrading to a self-emptying Deebot if one were released to market.

Does the job well, a nice addition
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I have had other robotic vacuums and mops in the past, from the popular name in the game. Just over time, got tired of the problems I had with it... and it always seemed like the only way to get past them, was to upgrade to another version of it. With the Deebot, I am pretty happy with I have gotten so far. Relatively easy to setup. (NOTE, when it says turn me on, before charging.. it isn't the button on top, there is a switch on the side... took me a few frustrating minutes to figure that out) Once it charged the first time overnight, was ready to setup. and if you have your WiFi password.. takes about 2 minutes from start to finish, before you are ready to get it going. When started, it went on it's way. It is relatively quiet. much quieter then our STICK vacuum. and given it is moving and rolling, still didn't make all that much noise. It was VERY good at getting under the table, and getting out... it would get under a chair, but it would get itself out pretty quickly, and keep on going. I found it interesting how it could sense the edges of cabinets and our island in the kitchen, avoid them, but then come back at a slower pace, different angle to get those areas. My next area of concern was the stairs... we have an open stair case.. and well.. .no tumble down them, it sensed it and kept it self from going down. We did have a tiny issue with one curtain, it was a little low.... and then a funny instance with a balloon. The unit was so light, and soft.. it didn't pop the balloon, but it went up and on top of it, and kinda got stuck. I say kinda because after 20s or so of trying to get off of it... it killed it motors, and the unit rolled back down, and then started back up... kinda neat. The mobile app is a GREAT touch. My previous units, had standalone remotes that we always lost. Now with this on our home WiFi we can do a little more monitoring, and everyone can turn it on and off... depending on what is going on. I am going to get some of the magnetic strips, so I can have it avoid certain areas of the room (aka that before mentioned curtain area). It ran for a solid 90 minutes, and covered over 1400sqft of cleaning. What I really liked is that it seamlessly handled going back and forth between my carpet and hardwood.
